Neat, @editorkid, except that completely defeats the purpose of having @cengland0 around. It's not supposed to be our fault for anything, don't you know?
@cengland0 Yeah, there was a time I'd spend weeks finding ROMs only to watch the format change after another MAME version or two. Gotta hope that won't be an issue for this.
@cengland0 For what it's worth, I'm on a 2010 MacBook Pro running Yosemite and the current version of Firefox handled it just fine. Safari didn't work, though.
It's freakin' 8 bit paradise. I can't begin to imagine how many quarters I plunked into Q*bert and Galaga and Joust and Berzerk and Rally-X and.... damn. That's enough quarters to buy a dozen speaker docks.
@KDemo Crazy Climber addict here -- loved that game so much I used CrazyClimber as my IRC handle for years. But yeah, I looked for Centipede -- it would be great if he could get that to work with trackpads.
Oh, and note that there are links up there that'll bring you to both console emulators and vintage computer emulators. Unfortunately, Atari is being dickish about letting people play its games, but tons of great ones from other companies are still in the 2600 section.
I was really hoping Mr. Do wasn't there or if it were, that it wouldn't load. Right now I'm operating under the assumption that there's no way to get the sound to work right in my environment so I definitely won't be playing it when I'm supposed to be doing something else.
@JerseyFrank It seems like the sound is the most troublesome aspect of the app, so it's turned off by default, but the "Unmute" button should work for many of these. He talks about it more in the ascii.textfiles.com link above.
I never realized how short Golden Axe was! I guess when I was a kid playing it in the arcade I never had enough quarters or something, but I just beat it in a pretty short amount of time at work :) Thanks for the link!
SADDEST GAME EVER: Bull Fight, a new-to-me discovery on this awesome Internet Arcade. "Let's play this one," I said. "This'll be fun," I said. "What kind of monster have I become?" I said.
You'd think that somehow, considering they have games with anteaters, bees, bulls, centipedes, chickens, devil fish, frogs, globs, gorillas, jackrabbits, kangaroos, ladybugs, mice, millipedes, ostriches, penguins, road runners, sharks, snakes, spiders, turtles, and tigers, they'd have one goat somewhere. I mean... anteaters.
@JonT Oh I know, but I was thinking about how a goat-based vintage arcade game would have been a good theme for your suggestion about having a competition.
Once you've loaded a game, press 5 to put in a quarter. 1 and 2 will choose the number of players.

@curtise Pretty neat MAME emulator. I'll have to try it later on a different OS because it's not working on my Mac.

Also a lot of Mac troubleshooting tips (and general tips as well) at the developer's blog today: http://ascii.textfiles.com/archives/4423

@ruouttaurmind - Centipede was my specialty.

PlayR.org is also addictive.

@kadagan That's pretty amazing. Good thing there's another 900 to play.
This is pretty damn great! Very nice find @editorkid. I have a usb Xbox 360 controller that I will definitely see more use because of this.
I wonder if we could all agree on a game and compete for high scores...
@JonT Joust is pretty amazing. Although, it looked like I was rebooting it before I could play.

@JasonToon That's my little matador murderer waving to the crowd. Note the mariachi band at upper left.
@JasonToon this looks like a must play to me.
@JasonToon @JonT My favorite part was when the bull hooked me in his horns and threw me out of the arena.
@editorkid That really is the best part.

@editorkid I mean there is http://www.goat-simulator.com/.
