I want to brag about our friendly Mercatalyst today
28I have been buying the Similac formula to donate to local food pantries. Years ago I started routinely donating after I found out a co-worker was involved in the pantry at her church. It made me more aware of giving opportunities. Earlier this week I ran across Side Deal selling it again and placed another order. After placing the order I remembered co-worker telling me about the relationship she’s developed with her grocery store. When she needs to buy in bulk she talks to the manager and gets a little better deal stretching the available budget. So what did I do, I wrote Mercatalyst asking if a better deal was available for me to purchase and donate. Well, they came through for my bulk buy. They gave it to me at cost and since I’m a VMP member with free shipping they are actually taking a little bit of a hit.

That is so awesome! In my youth I learned what it was to be hungry. That stays with you. Donating to food banks is something very close to my heart as a grown man. You done good! Bravo!

I usually don’t talk about my meager philanthropy. Not because it’s meager but because I think it’s an obligation to do what I can, when I can. I don’t see that as bragable (is that a word?). The co-worker I spoke of was going crazy when I first started because I didn’t hand it directly to her. I placed it in a very, very small manila envelope and placed it in her desk. $100/mo for several months but I had to break down and tell her as she was getting pretty distressed at not being able to thank the giver. And this time I felt that Mercatalyst deserved credit for eating the shipping on top of selling it at cost.
@booogerbrain This action of theirs reminds me of the early days of meh. I am glad to see there is an element of that still there. Thank you meh.
@Kidsandliz Yeah, I’m pretty happy with how it’s turned out. I get a good feeling being able to do this but I couldn’t have bought as much without their willingness to eat some costs.
