@Raptor_007 I think of campfires and black cast iron when I hear “Dutch oven”. I don’t think I have ever eaten anything that was prepared indoors in a Dutch oven, even though I know they make enamel ones specifically for that purpose.
For bread. Honestly I’ve only used it once, but I also just bought it about a week before Christmas. But my main reason for buying it was baking bread.
@remo28 I bought a second Dutch oven because I left the first one in storage when we started RV life, and I was craving no-knead bread. It works great on the grill!
@LinnE Yep no-knead bread is great, I even have a stand mixer, but damn sometimes you just want to be lazy while making bread. That’s a no knead white bread with like a 3-hour rise. Oddly (to me at least) it was a recipe from 80’s-90’s talk show host Jenny Jones. I had watched one of her you tube videos a few weeks before and didn’t even recognize her. Then I read her about on her blog and was like damn, I remember watching her on tv.
I certainly don’t always plan ahead for an 18 hour rise time.
@kittykat9180 I don’t recommend even touching a ready-to-deliver woman, let alone subjecting her to a dutch oven. It’s like poking a sleeping bear and could have catastrophic consequences.

@jimmyd103@kittykat9180 depends. Sometimes when it’s “get this kid out of me!” Time people will try anything. Although there are better places to start
We have enameled cast iron, which are heavy, but cook wonderfully. Used it to make turkey breast for thanksgiving this year. Also use it to make chili and braise short ribs. DH cooks pretty exclusively in them except to boil water for pasta/potatoes, seems to prefer it.
Tell ya what though, nothing beats a Dutch oven peach cobbler baked on a campfire.

This is a stupid simple recipe for chicken breast using a dutch oven, and it will give you restaurant-quality chicken every time https://www.outsideonline.com/2412963/how-to-cook-chicken-breasts
@jmoor783 thanks! I think I’ll try think tomorrow.
@jmoor783 I’m going to try that too!
…for making jambalaya.
…when the wifey doesn’t feel like cleaning the Cleveland Steamer afterwards.
@ZPB I am a little disappointed there aren’t more comments like this.
@TheCO2 @ZPB Yes, surprised there aren’t more Dutch oven jokes.

I will second the bread making. I have made some AMAZING bread in my dutch oven.
To get the kids out of the wife and my bed.
@jimmyd103 ewww gross dad
@jimmyd103 @unksol But it works.
@jimmyd103, get the kids out of the wife? So to trigger labor?
@unksol But it works so well!

For just about anything outside - casseroles, desserts, even frying!
Because it’s the highest form of comedy.
Not at all… Because it sells out by 10:30am

I use it to look at and think “someday I’ll use this, but not this time” as I use my other trusty pot for the 100th time
You can’t make real French onion soup without an enameled Dutch oven. Soup, chili, pot roasts all that in the Dutch oven.
Now that they’ve sold out, I can say “hey, that’s really nice green color!”
Actually I did order the 3.5. The 2.5 was already sold out. It’s nice to get a smaller one sometimes. (not TWSS).
Bread! Look up the Jim Lahey method!
