I just realized we don't know!
6I just realized we don’t know the answer to one of our culture’s most fundamental questions. Maybe someone here knows, but I certainly do not.
The question we most of us has asked since childhood is “Just who in the world is in the kitchen with Dinah?”

@Ignorant DAMN IT.
As I got older and started listening to music, the questions posed by both Michael Jackson and Alien Ant Farm remain unanswered:
Annie are you okay?
Are you okay?
Are you okay Annie?
@lumpthar i spent years thinking that song had to do with the Annie CPR training dummies
@lumpthar If Annie needs to be asked as many times as she has been asked (with the popularity of those songs) I think it’s pretty safe to say that Annie is definitely NOT OK!!! (…and that maybe someone in law enforcement should look into solving the identity of “The Smooth Criminal”.)
@lumpthar @tohar1 More to the point, since Annie is a woman, wouldn’t her flat response to that question be “If you don’t know, I’m not going to tell you!” (possibly followed by stomping out of the room, possibly followed by sobbing, definitely followed by yelling at me, no matter how I react or what I do).
So, yeah.
Well it wouldn’t be me as I hate to cook so spend as little time in the kitchen as possible and prefer to stick to foods that cook in a faster time than it takes to sing this song.
@Kidsandliz Dinah wasn’t cooking.
@lseeber Just googled that song and saw the history behind it. Yikes!
@Kidsandliz I know, right!?
@Kidsandliz @lseeber
Wow. I had no clue.
@jst1ofknd @Kidsandliz Likewise. I thought it was just a song about a railroad worker and his girl or something.
/youtube who are you
Ok… so… you got me wondering about the song that we had to sing as children in school so I looked it up. It really has what I consider to be a pretty disgusting background that I never would have guessed based on the popular version most of us are probably familiar with -
Working on the railroad
The Dark History of I’ve Been Working On the Railroad
@lseeber Yes I just discovered that a few minutes ago myself in response to your comment to me.
Also, who exactly is coming 'round the mountain?
@medz she
@medz
Excellent question! It might be Dinah.
Since no one in our family/friends growing up had Santa show up at their house for a party, it wasn’t until I was in college and saw a movie with that type of party scene that I realized Mommy wasn’t really kissing Santa.
Spoiler alert: Dad was doing some role play and the kid might not want to know what happened next.
@mollama You mean like come mid September you’ll have a younger sibling?
@Kidsandliz @mollama
Hey, I resemble that remark.
The following are the only “Levee Songs” on my Zune…
Whoever it is, he can sure strum that banjo!

Um, did this thread inspire the Slack bit in today’s teaser email?
And for once and for all, will someone please tell me:
I’ve been wondering for years:
And since rhetorical questions are all the rage…
