I just bought a house
20I bought my first one at the height of the housing crash. I bought my second one in some whirlwind of ridiculous housing prices.
Anyway… I have a feeling this is going to be a very quick turn around. and considering shipping times on some of the items out of the Meh warehouse… How do I update my mailing address on pending orders once necessary?

Shipping/billing info can be changed here. Hit the drop down and pick “+ add new address”
I don’t think this will update for any orders already placed though.
@Ignorant ok. I just hope we don’t have a meh-rathon in the midst of the closing
@Ignorant @mbersiam I had the same problem. I just sent everything to the new place.
Ha… I have a history of buying houses pre bubbles bursting. Not that buying because of the bubble but because that’s when I have to move/ can move.
Bought my last two right before bubbles burst and in the process of buying again… Probably again right before the current bubble bursts.
@OnionSoup yeah, i figured in a “normal” market my new house would be listed for $x and surprisingly, it was listed for that amount and not over-inflated price. It was serendipity.
@OnionSoup also, good luck on your purchase!!
@OnionSoup I think the current situation is more of a swell, than a bubble. That means it shouldn’t inflate as much, but will stay elevated. I’m not prescient, though, so don’t blame me if it pops, unless you’re willing to get me elected Goat again.
@OnionSoup @PocketBrain Here in Oregon, literally surrounded by forest, lumber prices have shot up 500%. A sheet of 3/4" plywood is now selling for $100. I recently read that it has pushed up the cost of building the average home here by $36K. Insanity!
@OnionSoup @PocketBrain heard on the radio today a possible future with a housing bubble-pop and deflation. The eviction moratoriums are expiring in a few weeks, and there’s expectation a lot of ‘small time’ landlords who only have a house or threee they rent out are going to give a giant “f*ck this not getting paid shit” and try to sell the houses once nonpaying tenants can finally be evicted.
Assuming they haven’t already lost their houses because they couldn’t pay taxes or mortgages because their tenants weren’t paying them… but then it might be the banks or municipalities selling them. If enough come out on the market it might ease the prices.
@duodec @OnionSoup @PocketBrain If the history of the massive housing bust in Houston in the 1980s is any guide, a large number of repossessions hitting the banks at the same time will not generate a huge wave of properties available for sale at auction. Nor will the banks try to maintain those properties, nor will they try to rent them out. It will just cause a contraction in the number of properties available, with predictable results. Banks are not in the business of operating rentals. Banks are not in the business of actually selling stuff. When they’ve only got one or two, yeah, they’ll find a way. When they’ve got a bunch of non-performing assets, they turn ostrich.
Congratulations!
@Kyeh thank you!
Congrats, it’s always fun to decorate a new house.
@Star2236 I wish. On my DiSCPlus assessment I found that my Aesthetic is only 13… normal is 30-50. It just means that I have no eye for decor because it holds very little value to me.
Basically if I see something I like I can tell you I like it once I recognize that I’m looking for that. But I have zero issue sitting in a plain cubicle without color.
I do love a lot of natural light though and I have big windows now!!
To bring that around - I find decorating tedious and difficult.
@mbersiam @Star2236 I did not know there was such a thing as an aesthetic score, and I very little interest in decorating, but all of a sudden I need desperately to know my disc score along with my Myers Briggs and eannagram. I will probably use it about just as much too
@marylynne7 @Star2236 I was a little surprised it was even a thing when I took that. If you want to get your disc score for free you get it from Tony Robbin’s website. just search “Tony Robbins Disc assessment” in google and you should be able to find it.
@mbersiam @Star2236 I found an episode of Bonanza, pointed at the living room of the Ponderosa ranch house, and told my wife “That”. And found out we can find compatible decor at Cabelas and Bass Pro.
She didn’t go for it…
We buy houses like we by cars-on the spur of the moment with little or no thought behind it. First house we bought almost 50 years ago in the dead of night from a real estate friend of my mothers. It had just come back on the market after the previous contract had fallen through. We bought it that night and then when we went back the next day to see it and we couldn’t find it.
The house we are in now. My wife caught me in a weak moment-April 16th to be exact. Went into a development I had never been in before (although my wife had been talking about it for several years). Thought it was an old fart (55 and over) community but it wasn’t. Had an app’t at noon and left 5 hours later having bought a house, picked out the lot and picked out 50k worth of structural changes.
@Felton10 This felt spur of the moment. We’ve been casually looking for two years. This one hit the market and checked all the boxes of what we’re looking for so we jumped. But now we have to pack up and get our house ready to sell in the next ten days… meanwhile my husband graduates on Saturday and then he starts a summer internship on Monday. My kids have all of their end-of-year stuff going on at school. And I have all my project implementations at work too.
But what would life be without challenges, risk, and a bit of chaos LOL
@mbersiam Ours was the move from hell. Had to move out before our new house was ready so we had to rent a condo for a month and a half and put everything in storage. Probably added close to 10k to the cost of the move over and above the 150k we lost on the sale of the house.
Already have my next move planned-they are carrying me out in coffin sized box.
@Felton10 I really hope ours goes smoothly.
On that note… do you have any bubble wrap and boxes I could get from you
@mbersiam Actually gave all the boxes (both from the mover and the close to 150 bankers boxes I bought at staples) to the women who has been cutting what little hair I have left as she just moved.
And I don’t keep used bubble wrap (or at least my wife doesn’t).
Staples seems to have the best deal on 10 packs of their own brand of bankers boxes.
@Felton10 luckily I live in a very generous community and have been piecing together box gathering from multiple sources… It helps to know the managers of the few stores in my little village and surprisingly people still list things on the free section of craigslist.
So… you bought a very expensive IRK?
@Cerridwyn I don’t think there will be any regret. I’m so darned excited for this place and am looking forward to a house I’m not embarrassed by. My house is a wonderful starter home and it fit my needs for about eight years. But we’re entering year 11 here and it’s getting hard to manage our family in this small space.
Hey, me too!
Scariest thing is wire-transferring that closing cost.
I was lucky, got my price lock right before a jump in prices. Now I have a place to sell. Got that place slightly pre-burst, haven’t lived there since 2008, but it’s a good time to sell.
My new acquisition I have been living in for a couple years, so move-in was a breeze.
@PocketBrain so happy for you!!!
@mbersiam @PocketBrain Yes, the wire transfer of closing costs is scary. Honestly, I wouldn’t do it. I know a guy who was extremely careful about his wire transfer, checked everything, and still got scammed out of his wire-transferred down-payment on his recent home purchase. The notification he got was very sophisticated – had proper names and addresses, etc.
He really, really hates Wells Fargo right now. They are apparently the ones who are most susceptible to this.
@Limewater @PocketBrain OH NO!!! Luckily I’m only moving like 12 minutes from my current house so everything is local. I’m hoping that will all work in my favor.
CONGRATULATIONS!

Picked up some boxes from a facebook post… looked over and saw a morningsave sticker on it
PSA:. Don’t submit change of address with the USPS. They’ll fuck everything up. Stuff that already has the new address will get sent back, etc
