I have lost my kindle!
7Somewhere between work and home at the end of last week I must have misplaced my fire kindle, I have no idea where it is, I looked everywhere and asked everyone.
So does anyone have any tips on what kind of a new one to get and just go to amazon or elsewhere? Just asking.

Oh no! I’m no expert but I bet @sammydog01 and @Barney and @f00l might have some ideas.
I do know Woot has them fairly regularly but who wants to wait for that?
Amazon, Devices, Warehouse deals. Get the 10" screen. Enable " Find My Kindle. "
I don’t like the 10” screen on a e-reader.
Yes, I prefer that size on a tablet.
So… Do you want an e-reader or a tablet?
Amazon has these for sale in the warehouse all the time. Pick out which features matter and go shopping.
Google “Amazon warehouse” to shop there.
If you are familiar with shopping on eBay for electronics and feel comfortable doing that, you can also get them there.
And you can shop in safely for them on Swappa.com.
The ones with the most recent improvements, such as waterproofing, will be somewhat harder to find and more expensive.
If you are happy with a nice backlit paperwhite with no waterproofing, you should have many choices.
Go for the 300dpi screen resolution.
Make sure to pay attention the the device generation of the devices you look at. Get the most recent generation that fits your budget. You’ll get somewhat better performance that way.
Wikipedia has a list of Kindle generations and when they became available.
@f00l I actually really like my paperwhite. I know it’s not color and doesn’t do other tabletey things, but as a basic reader, it really works for me, especially when I’m reading a book in full sun. But I’m guessing given you had a fire, it wouldn’t fit the bill.
@f00l, @moonhat, …and my sincerest condolences!
@ybmuG
I have tablets I barely use. I prefer the greyscale e-readers for reading.
@f00l When it comes to Kindles, I agree with everything that @f00l says. She’s the expert.
Edit: But I think Paperwhites are great.
@moonhat @ybmuG @Barney
Perhaps my remark somehow read as tho I don’t like Paperwhites? If so, that’s an error on my part.
My current fav Kindle is an Oasis. A “luxe” item. But what I have with me at the moment is a Paperwhite. It’s great and I love it.
If someone wanted into the Kindke device e-reader world, I’d recommend they start with a Paperwhite unless they really needed to go way way cheaper.
Just get the 300 dpi one. A recent one.
(more storage, better processor, etc)
@f00l @moonhat @ybmuG No, what you said was spot on – I was just adding my opinion about Paperwhite Kindles. However, I am also using an Oasis now and I LOVE it!
@f00l @ybmuG Kindle Paperwhites are just for reading- but [IMHO] they are are the absolute best device available for that purpose.
@Barney @f00l @moonhat @ybmuG Wow. The Oasis is pricey I see.
@f00l @mfladd @moonhat @ybmuG
Mine is a first generation Oasis (with cover) that I bought from Woot when they were clearing them out back in January for around $160(?).
I like the brightness/sharpness of the screen and very much like the extra battery life that the cover provides. I also like that I can listen to Audible books if I ever decided to listen to them (I did have to do a special update to get the Oasis to do this).
Would I go out and spend mega books for a new Oasis? Nope. Not unless I was so wealthy that I didn’t know what to do with my money.
I still like the new Paperwhites. There are often some great deals on them.
@Barney @f00l @mfladd @moonhat @ybmuG The people on Reddit say the new warm reading mode on the Oasis is nice. I don’t expect to try out an Oasis because it would make me unhappy with my Paperwhite.
@sammydog01 I have decided to take a different path rather than buying Kindles. I am now investing in blenders. Even though I should have done this a long time ago, I think I can still corner the market on them.
@Barney @f00l @mfladd @moonhat @sammydog01 I do like the warm reading mode on the kindle app on my phone and pc. I feel it’s less harsh. Perhaps because the more yellow “paper” color reduces the blue light?

Try the features mentioned there to either find your tablet or at least remote lock it, deregister it, or reset it so nobody can access your crap.
If you want a tablet the Fire 8HDs go for dirt cheap at certain times- Black Friday will likely be one. I guess it depends what you use it for.
/giphy blame the scapegoat
@nolrak this is your fault.
@mediocrebot @nolrak that’s right, @nolrak! How could you?? Are you hiding it from me? You’re in big trouble.
@moonhat @ybmuG
I’m sorry, the scapegoat you have called has a mailbox that is full and is not accepting new messages.
click.
@nolrak this is your fault.
/image the sads for you
@Kidsandliz I love that!
@moonhat Glad you like it. Got lucky this time with image after altering the phrase a bit several times.
I put one of those find me kind of stickers that whistle when I activate the app. They have saved my sanity more than once with TV remotes and my kindle. Also, I have the 10" kindle with 64 GB and would never go back. It’s big enough that I can increase font size and not need my glasses to read. But it’s not as heavy as my tablet.
i have a couple of nooks from about 10 years ago, if you’d be interested in a bargain?
@Yoda_Daenerys You would have to pay ME to take those nooks.
@mfladd @Yoda_Daenerys
The old greyscale nooks are nice e-readers that do many formats. They’re just not worth much due to age. (Like us )
@f00l @mfladd @Yoda_Daenerys Old Kindles are worth a bunch for trade-in value. Just a note to anyone who has a pile of them lying around. Like me.
@mfladd @sammydog01 @Yoda_Daenerys
Old Kindles have the trade-in advantage that old nooks (and I) don’t seem to have.
/giphy old
@f00l @mfladd You and me both.
The old gen 1 paperwhite I got scratch and dent from Woot dropped the price of a new waterproof paperwhite to $30.
@mfladd @sammydog01
Now that’s a deal. If you wanna stay with amz.
/giphy let’s make a deal
I’m so happy for you. Break that connection to Bezos and be free.
@Cerridwyn If Bezos sent every person in the US a Paperwhite, he would still be worth over a 100 Billion $.
