@DrunkCat What I expected was the physical media to just have a steam code. It did, but still installed the base game off the disc for some reason. THEN it began downloading the updates.
@ACraigL I actually commented that for my own vindication (debate on pre-orders still being a thing). That sucks that you still had to download a bunch of bits even though you got the physical copy.
@ACraigL Recently I’v installed Halo 5 to XB1 from disc, it needed 33 GB patch to be downloaded right away. Did they really remake or all of game’s data or they are just lazy programmers who changed couple KBs of code and repackaged whole game?
@vanslaterco I can’t not play Doom. I grew up with it. Doom and Myst came out the same year, and I have a soft spot in my nostalgic heart for both of them.
@vanslaterco It’s all in what you luv. I recently bought an old SSI/Dreamforge DOS game that I played back on 5 inch floppies and my daughter, then in high school, and I played for hours and hours.
I still love it. Almost bought Zork a year or so ago, ah memories.
@Cerridwyn I feel bad you missed our playthrough of Violet in June- do you normally play text adventure/interactive fiction? There’s talk of another one here in the future, and if you want me to notify you, I will.
@dashcloud I was staff on one of the longest (still exists) MUD’s on the net for 10+ years.
So yeah, I do at times. Been addicted to wartune the last couple years but after Avatar MUD, (and during the time I was there) I ran a cybernations alliance, kinda still do, played a couple other nation building games, Ikarium, another odd guild building game i can’t remember. DoTD, and countless others.
Played dice games, text games, collectible card games, Wizardry when it was 80 bucks a game and 4 color, Bard’s tale, you name it.
@Cerridwyn MUDs… Those were fun. I played a few different ones that I can’t remember the name of until I finally settled down into AVP mud. Then they decided to redo the whole game and everyone was deleted in the process. That was a bummer. A lot of people were disheartened to start their characters over that they had been playing for years.
I tried a couple of random ones after that, but nothing came close to the fun I had in the AVP days.
@RiotDemon They were. As the player base dwindled, the changes in the game got to be ones I couldn’t support anymore. While I was very senior staff by this time, I decided it was time to leave it to those who supported the changes.
@Cerridwyn I used to play a MUD (RetroMUD) a relatively long time ago, and right when I would’ve had the time to dedicate to it (starting college), I was doing other stuff, and never got back into it.
Played a little Doom this week, after the interminable delay, and got to say it was worth the wait. Feels like Doom of old in every way except the sound and graphics are phenomenal, and the overt, over-the-top, senseless violence and gore is just pure joy.
I now live for the glory kill.
You won’t have to (or want to) watch this entirely through to get a feel for what I’m talking about.
WARNING: Graphic violence ensues. If that’s not your thing, avoid.
This is why pre-ordering still works digitally.

At least it’ll be ready for the holiday.

Still faster than having the floppies mailed to you…
Friend me on Steam. JerseyFrank is my id there too
I can’t fathom having the patience for PC gaming now.

@ACraigL Doom 3 is $5 for PS3 at my local trade shop. I’m real close to buying it.
@vanslaterco I spend my time doing other things now, but I LURV playing Baldur’s Gate

It was a simpler time.

@dashcloud I have actually heard of that one, never played it though

@ACraigL
When you’ve got your health, you’ve got just about everything.
Instead of buying Doom 3, I decided to break out Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga. Turns out I never 100% it. Time to finish it off!
