My mother passed away in 1981
And personally, it’s a hallmark holiday
Celebrate your mother every day
(unless of course you were not appropriately taken care of, then celebrate mothers day as liberation day)
@Cerridwyn Mine passed in '94. I have a daughter, but for reasons we both understand, it would be really weird for her to express the stereotypical Hallmark holiday sentiments to me on that date. (And she appears to have decided that children are not on the option list for now, so the other potential flag has yet to be raised.)
None of the cats that I have raised from kittens appears disposed to recognizing the date either. (And I don’t do dogs.)
@Cerridwyn Mine past away last Tuesday. I wish she had lived through mother’s day but that was not in the cards. She needed to die due to her quality of life, issues, etc. for about the last 6 months. Sometimes modern medicine is too good. I got there 3.5 days before she died. I was really lucky to have been there. Of course that doesn’t make us miss her any less but at least I got to be there while she was dying…
So as you said to others, celebrate monther’s day (that is if you are so inclined) and celebrate that you still have a mom.
So funny story. Many, many years I was 27 and it was March in the UK and I was on a business trip. I had a free day and was exploring London, shopping, sight seeing, etc.
It was only after a long day I was back at the hotel reflecting on my day and thought about the HAPPY MUMs DAY signs I saw posted everywhere. Apparently Mothers Day was THAT Sunday. Oh shit!!! My mom was going to be pissed!!!
I was trying to decide what to do. I could order flowers, but I was young and broke. Snd this was pre-Amazon, etc.
Well, I gathered up the courage to call mom to apologize that I was going to miss her day. Told her I would make it up to her when I got back.
And. Then. She. Laughed…laughed A LOT. WTH!!!
That is when I learned that the UK celebrates in March, whereas the U S celebrates in MAY
She did get a cute Happy Mums Day card that year. She loved it and still has squirreled away somewhere.
@Kidsandliz@kyeh. Yeah, she still teases me. Whats worse is my best friend at the time went w me and I booked all my rooms as 2 full beds. Made it cheaper for her to see England, Ireland and Scotland and I had company when travling between cities and in my down time. We were both freaking out not realizing the March/May thing, and we were both honor students growing up
I’m really late to start cooking. I’m hosting Mother’s Day. Polish dinner.
@Star2236 polish dinner can require a lot of runway

Just my not so popular opinion
