I’m no engineer, but it seems like a bit of a design flaw to allow your product to sit and stay powered on in the case until all batteries involved are completely dead just because you didn’t want to implement a “power off when charging” state.
@dvermilion You may have the right angle on these. I bought a pair and they are acting like they will not charge. Which can be a result of a completely discharged battery. Ugh. Well this is Meh!
@dvermilion@rustyh3 As a former longtime software developer, I think this must have been an explicit design decision based on some criteria that must have prevented off-when-charging from being put in. After all, just plain old common sense says you don’t want something to be on while charging when you’re not using it. Maybe their designers couldn’t find space for the additional circuitry, or maybe the pennies it would cost to add the parts didn’t fly with penny-pinchers at the company, but yeah, a dumb decision no matter how you look at it.

Just did an oil change on my RAV4 with my earbuds in. Came in and threw them in the charger while I was updating my records for mileage & date for future oil change etc. Lights are all off after the buds charged up.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@chienfou@ItalianScallion@rustyh3
So… the earbuds stay on the entire time they’re charging unless you manually turn them off? lol I really don’t understand that behavior; it’s like a computer designed these things and just worked backwards like “well obviously if they become fully charged they MUST be in the case, so we can safely turn them off!” How about when they sense voltage of any type they turn off?
It genuinely seems like they took the IC out of over-ear headphones (which you can oftentimes charge while you listen) and put it in wireless earbuds even though they’d never need to be on while charging. I wonder what the behavior would be if they’re fully dead. Do they stay off & charge or do they treat getting some juice as a “power on” state? I’d sure hope not, but given this new information I wouldn’t be at all surprised. Please report back!
Either way I guess it’s not as bad as it could be, but it’s still far less than ideal since, unless you power them off manually, you might have to manually disconnect them from your device over and over (I’ve had headphones that will constantly seek out a device to connect to until powered off)—I’d be interested to know if these behave like that or if they just leave you alone once disconnected in your BT settings (but not powered off).
I’ve got a pair of earbuds where if the charging case is out of juice they automatically power on since it’s the presence of voltage itself that keeps them turned off, so when the case dies it simulates me pulling them out. This means I have to figure out why I can’t hear my phone and eventually realize it’s because there’s a Bluetooth device hijacking my audio. I treat it as a helpful “notification” that my charging case is dead, so I guess this is sort of a helpful notification that you forgot to turn off your earbuds? lol
I like mine since sometimes I just want to use a single earbud—are you able to power off just 1 or does turning on/off 1 earbud control both? The case turns mine off for me so I’ve never even had to consider this. What a rabbit hole.
@dvermilion
After reading through your post above I’m totally confused. Not sure if you were replying to things I said or someone else you tagged. Maybe this will clear things up:
My earbuds turn their BT off as soon as I put them in the charging case. They disconnect from my phone at that time.
They light up red while they’re charging, turn off the red light once fully charged.
This pattern is the same whether the case is actively plugged into a charger or unplugged and running off the internal battery.
I never have to manually turn off my earbuds to disconnect or charge them when I place them in the case.
Received mine defective, won’t charge, charging light flickers not flashes. Contacted them 3 different ways and have yet to get a response. Warranty page no help. Shit company, avoid at all costs.
@JTHredzak if you’re talking about contacting Meh… make sure to check any spam folders for a reply. If you haven’t received one yet, give them a little time. Customer service is all handled by actual humans that work standard business hours. I promise they’ll get back to you.
@Ignorant Sorry I wasn’t clear, I was writing about Hypergear. I called, emailed and submitted my problem via the website and have received no responses to any method. Meh has always been great to me, I would never dis them.
@JTHredzak ok yeah that’s where I thought you were going but wasn’t totally sure. Give it a couple more days and if you don’t here back from them then try reaching out to Meh support and see if they can assist.

Dang, micro USB. I was hoping to swap out for new buds that use USB-C to help my cable management.
I’ve bought these a couple times on Meh and they are actually pretty good!
@paullaf really? I hate that they don’t turn off automatically when you put them in the case. Having to manually turn them off is a deal realer
@pdinc yeah that is true but it doesn’t really bother me. For the price the sound and the battery life are decent.
@paullaf @pdinc Manual shitoff?? That reals the deal for me!

@rustyh3 I’d be lying if I said my comment wasn’t influenced by a dozen or so similar experiences
It’s a truly wild design flaw

Okay, that’s weird mine seem to power off once they’re full.

@chienfou Ohh, I was taking when you initially said “power off once they’re full” to mean they were actually connected while charging—a couple of people reported they had to manually power them off elsewhere I’m the thread: https://meh.com/forum/topics/hypergear-active-true-wireless-earbuds-members-only#69b342f311880d7969720e1f
The behavior you’re describing is very much what I’d expect and I’d be extremely confused by anything else.
