@KDemo Uuugh, I just trashed my Cannon, ink draining POS, every time it starts up, there goes 1/3 of my ink. I used it 20 times and went through 2 sets of ink...IMHO Cannon is junk. I bought an HP Envy series printer, it's heaven, I used that about 20 times and not even at 1/4 out of ink. If I didn't have my new HP Envy, I'd def get this...even refurb'd.
@mrj62 I had 2 HP's and had too many problems connecting to my wireless internet. I bought a cannon and it was working within 10 mins. Not sure what the issue was, but the guy at Best Buy told me they have lots of problems with HP and wireless connectability
@Thumperchick I wouldn't buy a lame photo printer again. I did one time and discovered the ink was so expensive that it was cheaper to bring photos to Walgreens or Sams Club and have them professionally printed than to print them myself.
@TehMaliron It says how many "meh". It's zero when I hit the page and click. When the face stops spinning it changes to 1. I watch it to see it is the same time. I have also landed and others beat me too it. This game {and occasional victory} is my one conciliation since something went terribly wrong w/ my meh faces.
Still have yet to have good, long-lasting experiences with an HP printer. Contemplating switching to Brother like my dad did, so this one is definitely a no-go for me.
@Talidan I think it is more laser vs inkjet...my one HP laser is going strong after 15 years, my 3 Brother inkjet all in ones have failed after 2-3 years each
Already got one (an Epson) HP's, like most other printers, charge too much for their ink cartridges.. only Epson fits an average budget. It's a good price though yet can put you back big bucks if your a high gloss print enthusiast.. (looks like I'm up to six in a row.. c'mon meh, help me break this run).
@unkabob I'm using HP's "Instant Ink" service on my HP Inkjet (which I got off Woot none the less) and am quite happy with the fact that I have a predictable ink cost: $5/month.
@ceagee Select HP printers (I think it's about 20 right now?) have a service where you pay a monthly fee for ink and a certain number of pages. For example, 300 pages/month for $10/month. When your printer gets low on ink, they automatically ship you more, no action required on your part... ink just shows up at your door. If you print a lot of color or photos, this is very worth it - no matter how much or how little ink you use, it's $10/month for 300 pages (there are other plans as well, it starts at $3/month IIRC)
@Collin1000 .. Now that sounds great.. I should have said if you like to print photos often.. So what your saying is out of that 300 pages I could print say 150 nice photos (not high-end but good quality)..? You said about twenty models, do you know if it includes this particular printer?
@unkabob I don't want to post the list here to save space, but it looks like this printer doesn't support it. Website is at http://www8.hp.com/us/en/ads/instant-ink/overview.html#eligible-printers and you could contact HP to verify printer support. It seems to only be supported in their newer model printers (2014 and on)
@kylewood@kylewood Ouch! That’s way too much money to spend on ink IMHO. I can get 2 refurbished carts for my printer (HP61XL&HP61XL) for $15 shipped at Ebay. Quality is decent too and I’ve been saving money this way for years now.
Inkjet = meh! For how little printing I do at home, I'm pretty sure the ink would dry up and clog up the head loooooong ago. I'm still on the same ream of paper since 2010.
($5 thrift store laser printer, inclusive of a NIB toner cartridge, FTW.)
@narfcake I've had that problem too. Don't print anything for a month, the ink drys up and you have to go through several cleaning cycles that use up even more ink and sometimes doesn't unclog.
@phatmass I agree. I have been buying refurbished carts for my printer (HP61XL&HP61XL) for $15 shipped at Ebay. Quality is decent too and I’ve been saving money buying refurbished ink for years now.
@phatmass What I like about HP printers is that the print head is part of the ink cartridge Most people don't know that you can get at least 2 refills (maybe more) out of an ink cartridge for color, 3 refills (sometimes more) for text, depends on your picky-ness on quality. Then there's there's the people that say the ink is not the same quality. I've made framed movie posters 10+ years ago, there is no loss of color or fading. As for the refurbished carts, nope - tried that - poor prints because after 3-4 times refilled the quality just isn't there and this type of cart is usually recycled with the seller, they'll buy them back - lets face it, sooner or later the print head is going to print awful. Refill your own, use to your liking as far as quality, when ready buy a new cart - with a new cart you get a new print head. Basically, wash, rinse and repeat and save a bundle.
I have a HP flat bed printer scanner & it won't scan if you're out of ink. Also, if you don't print often, doesn't the ink dry out plugging the nozzles? I'd like to have a sheet feed scanner but I wouldn't print enough for this to work.
@baqui63 You're probably right that they are all old. Both unixrab and I worked for a company a long time ago that used Solaris on Sun stations. I know they are using regular PC's now even though I no longer work there. We both enjoyed learning the Unix language. Although @unixrab thought he was going to learn eunuchs.
@baqui63 obviously I know that website. That is where I got the last Dilbert comic that I posted. Something funny to note, when I said Dilbert, my phone auto corrected that to dodo bird and I had to manually change it.
i hate this printer. not that i own one. but my neighbor had theirs miss configured in wifi direct mode. it functioned as a wireless access point that you could connect to when you wanted to print. long story short in that mode it would totally suck up all the spectrum on my preferred channel space in a wifi congested neighborhood... i know don't think they printed that often with it, but they would leave it on for 12 hours straight and i would have days of subpar connectivity. i haven't seen it active for about a month now. so maybe they returned it and its now being sold as refurbished on meh. or maybe they finally figured out how to get it to connect to the rest of their lan as a client instead of an AP.
in my opinion if you are going to get a wireless printer configure it correctly and shut it off when its not in use. your neighbors will appreciate it. its worth noting that this model doesn't have a Ethernet jack for wired connectivity.
@ballpark the others are worse the spectrum is very crowded.. the real solution is to upgrade my AP to a dual band AP but not ever item in my home is capable of 5ghz.
I've never had an HP I didn't hate. Actually, my most recent Officejet had some redeeming qualities... until it started making really harsh grinding noises and died after a year and a half.
@SkippyKJ lol... yes, that is how it came up for me... One of the most useful Chrome extensions there is. and on my screen your message shows as butt-to-butt, instead of c l o u d-to-butt
True story - a buddy had an early HP (could be any brand) wifi printer conveniently sitting in his family room. He was the only person home. All of a sudden it mysteriously started printing. 25 pages of printing.
He picked up the first page and it read "Draft, Chapter 1...". Of course it was his neighbor's attempt to be the next J.K. Rowling.
I said to my friend, you should discover and connect to his (her?) wifi printer and print a single page: "Thanks so much for the first chapter of my upcoming novel."
Heard lots of bad things about this one before buying it at Best Buy. However, most comments centered around the wireless aspects. But seriously, it's not that hard and I am pretty sure that 90% is user error. Love printing from my IOS devices. Love printing via e-mail while on a family outing literally anywhere in the world (to come home and find them all printed in a neat stack, ready to send to elder family members who don't do the whole "electronic" thing. -you're welcome post office.) Anyway, for $68 bucks refurb'd, I defy anyone to find it's match, dual sided printing and all mentioned above. In for one for my wife who said "if only I had one of these at work my life would be complete". This coming from the woman who cursed every other printer we have ever had in the past. For us, this one just works.
My last hp "bargain" machine made me so furious with misfeeds and dried-out ink (always the night before a paper was due, too, utterly without fail)) that I've since sworn off hp printers. I finally went out and spent about $120 on a b&w laser with scanner, doc tray, and proper multiplexing. Toner costs a little more than a set of inkjet carts, but I get to print like 7000 pages per or something insane like that, and no more dried out ink inside of 3 weeks.
I am rather tempted but my concern with this printer is that I don't print anything for long periods of time, say up to six months. With every other inkjet printer I've had in the past, I generally ended up having to replace the printhead and/or cartridges every other time I used it, even though still fairly full.
Anyone have experience with this printer in that regard?
@baqui63 Not with this directly, but over the years, all inkjets have had one issue or another from lack of use. As toner is dry, laser is the way to go.
@narfcake yeah... too late now (tho it will probably be back) but I think I'll just stick with printing the occasional whatever at work, they way I've been doing it for the last couple of years.

No Georgia Red. . . for that alone, meh.
I love purple.
I would buy this in a minute if I didn't have a Canon already.
@KDemo Uuugh, I just trashed my Cannon, ink draining POS, every time it starts up, there goes 1/3 of my ink. I used it 20 times and went through 2 sets of ink...IMHO Cannon is junk. @mrj62 - Got mine as refurb from WOOT years ago. To tell the truth I hardly ever use it, but now and then it's a must.
@mrj62 I had 2 HP's and had too many problems connecting to my wireless internet. I bought a cannon and it was working within 10 mins. Not sure what the issue was, but the guy at Best Buy told me they have lots of problems with HP and wireless connectability
Amazon reviews are not too good... but the Walmart reviews are great. I guess it depends on what type of standards you have...
@Collin1000 well, if you shop in your pajama bottoms and your not in your house, then there is your answer
Meh
Pass. I blame @cengland0 for the lame meh tonight.
@Thumperchick I wouldn't buy a lame photo printer again. I did one time and discovered the ink was so expensive that it was cheaper to bring photos to Walgreens or Sams Club and have them professionally printed than to print them myself.
This is now the second time I have been the first to click "meh" ! I get way too much pleasure out of this.
@ceagee Wait, it actually tells you when you're the first? I so have a new goal in life..
@ceagee I love getting the first meh click.
@ceagee I was hoping for like flashing lights and a siren or something. I suppose I could get behind this game though.
@TehMaliron No lights, but self satisfaction and bragging rights are pretty good.
I like the face today.
Best meh face yet.
Still have yet to have good, long-lasting experiences with an HP printer. Contemplating switching to Brother like my dad did, so this one is definitely a no-go for me.
@Talidan I think it is more laser vs inkjet...my one HP laser is going strong after 15 years, my 3 Brother inkjet all in ones have failed after 2-3 years each
@Odi The old HP lasers are fine workhorses
Already got one (an Epson) HP's, like most other printers, charge too much for their ink cartridges.. only Epson fits an average budget. @unkabob I'm using HP's "Instant Ink" service on my HP Inkjet (which I got off Woot none the less) and am quite happy with the fact that I have a predictable ink cost: $5/month.
@Collin1000 What is this "Instant Ink" you speak of ?
@ceagee Select HP printers (I think it's about 20 right now?) have a service where you pay a monthly fee for ink and a certain number of pages. For example, 300 pages/month for $10/month. @Collin1000 So does the printer 'phone home' when the ink starts getting low or do the shipments come the same time every month?
@hallmike It let's HP know and Hp automatically ships them to you
In for one but not sure exactly why.
@khunjeff Because it is about the same cost as a full set of ink.
@kylewood @kylewood Ouch! That’s way too much money to spend on ink IMHO. I can get 2 refurbished carts for my printer (HP61XL&HP61XL) for $15 shipped at Ebay. Quality is decent too and I’ve been saving money this way for years now.
Nope
This has pagination. In for three.
Inkjet = meh! For how little printing I do at home, I'm pretty sure the ink would dry up and clog up the head loooooong ago. I'm still on the same ream of paper since 2010.

@narfcake I've had that problem too. Don't print anything for a month, the ink drys up and you have to go through several cleaning cycles that use up even more ink and sometimes doesn't unclog.
@cengland0 Yep. Your fault for that, BTW.
Printer ink tanker truck overturns. Damages estimated at seven hundred trillion dollars. http://www.fark.com/comments/6950784
This is tempting for wireless and the fact I found better deals per page of ink compared to my now 4 year old hp c4600.
Does anyone actually buy name brand ink? I buy bootleg ink off Amazon for like 1/10 the price and it works fine. Am I missing something?
@phatmass I take the easy route and just stop in at Office Max and get new cartridges. Silly. But It is probably only once a year.
@phatmass I agree. I have been buying refurbished carts for my printer (HP61XL&HP61XL) for $15 shipped at Ebay. Quality is decent too and I’ve been saving money buying refurbished ink for years now.

Laser for life! Meh...
Costco refills the 564 inks cheap!
{564(XL) is a better value to fill.}
So get the printer/copier/scanner
thingie & thumb your nose at HP!
@mamawoot thumbed my nose at HP and the ink mines by going laser Brother and been a happy camper ever since.
Crap.
@airjer And your point is?
@YoDad oh sorry, meh.
Mehg Whitman does not approve.
I have a HP flat bed printer scanner & it won't scan if you're out of ink. Also, if you don't print often, doesn't the ink dry out plugging the nozzles? I'd like to have a sheet feed scanner but I wouldn't print enough for this to work.
Every HP inkjet printer I've owned or used has been an absolute disaster. Their laser printers are great but have crappy software.
Can it send wireless faxes?
@pistol No, but it will teleport your paper. Without a phone line jack, how else can it do it?
@hchavers meh. Need to keep the original, not have its atoms scattered back and forth across space by this gadget.
@pistol Whatever you say, Bones.
DO NOT WANT
@unixrab You probably used an old version of Solaris.
@cengland0 DOH!
@cengland0 aren't ALL versions of Solaris old now?
@baqui63 You're probably right that they are all old. Both unixrab and I worked for a company a long time ago that used Solaris on Sun stations. I know they are using regular PC's now even though I no longer work there. We both enjoyed learning the Unix language. Although @unixrab thought he was going to learn eunuchs.
@cengland0 UWIN X-Workstations FTW!! :-)
@cengland0 I remember when that dilbert strip came out
@baqui63 I used to read Dilbert daily, then I stopped getting the paper. Now I miss it almost as much as the Far Side.
@cengland0 but... http://www.dilbert.com/ ??
@baqui63 obviously I know that website. That is where I got the last Dilbert comic that I posted. Something funny to note, when I said Dilbert, my phone auto corrected that to dodo bird and I had to manually change it.

@untoward change your preferred channel
@ballpark the others are worse the spectrum is very crowded.. the real solution is to upgrade my AP to a dual band AP but not ever item in my home is capable of 5ghz.
HP consumer grade.... AND a refurb without a year's warrenty. Meh
I've never had an HP I didn't hate. Actually, my most recent Officejet had some redeeming qualities... until it started making really harsh grinding noises and died after a year and a half.
Will it print two-sided?
I work at a marketing/print center, so I'm printing things pretty much 8 hours a day. But that's kind of cheating.
I recommend Chrome extension 'Cloud-to-Butt' to everyone. May cause childish giggling.
@SkippyKJ lol... yes, that is how it came up for me... One of the most useful Chrome extensions there is. and on my screen your message shows as butt-to-butt, instead of c l o u d-to-butt
