I’m 72, and my cardiologist took me off of the hypertension med three months ago. (I was already on a very low dose, and sometimes my systolic reading was under 100.)
@chienfou@werehatrack I often am/was in the 90’s over 60’s and that was normal for me for years. It’s a bit higher now but can still be those readings. No issues.
@chienfou Back when I was still on the med, I sometimes had some orthostatic hypotension issues. Since dropping it, that hasn’t been an issue. Back in 2015, when my then-PCP first put me on a hypertension med (hydrochlorothiazide), I had BIG problems with hypotension. She switched me to lisinopril, and I tolerated it a lot better, but it’s questionable whether I really needed either of them. Now, I’m off of that, and I don’t miss their side effects.
I usually get my blood pressure checked a couple times a year (at minimum, once for my annual physical, plus twice at the semiannual dental checkups). They always remark about how good the numbers are, so I don’t worry too much about it.
@therealjrn Yeah, but it’s an el-crappo. An at-home Omron is the only “reliable” one at this time. I only look at smart crap as “relative” barometers. They can only tell you “slopes” up and down in relation to how you are doing.
For example. Apple had (has?) a team trying to extrapolate glucose measurements without penetrating the skin. This is the HOLY GRAIL of diabetic blood sugar monitoring. Apple, with all it’s cash, has failed to deliver something that they could claim is HIPAA compliant. I think they are trying to infer blood sugar from all the parameters they can measure between the back of the watch and the skin. Result? Nada.
/showme Apple iPhone pleading with Hippo in white lab coat. Hippo is shaking his head no and pointing the iphone to a door labelled “Exit”.
Depends on which dr im at. I got it checked at the dr on Wednesday and it was 160/100 but I don’t like those people, after a little bit to calm down it was 120/80 like it always is.
I take a very small dose of blood pressure meds but it’s for migraines. Usually it makes my bp on the lower side and will cause my bp to jump with going from resting to walking.
@Star2236 My Dad had a wrist BP monitor, but his GP poo-pooed it. His GP told him to get an Omron with the traditional arm wrap thingy. They aren’t cheap, but readings at home are better than at doctor. They also come with bluetooth data offload, so you can print or send the data to the doctor.
Like 20%.
Depends upon whether or not I’ve looked at the Political Bullshit thread.
It’s under control and medicated into submission at the moment.
It’s good. I’ve been saving my salt for the sidewalks this weekend.

@werehatrack
I can see why. Are you symptomatic when it drops that low?

@Kidsandliz @werehatrack
That’s good. A LOT of folks get positional hypotension in that range.
@chienfou @werehatrack Nope. Been that way my entire life except the last couple of years where I am in the teens/70’s.

Get mine checked each time I give blood (several times a year). So far so good. Good genes and Mediterranean diet mostly, which helps.
Here is what my el-crappo $40 flea-bay dumbsh*t watch that I bought new is telling me …
Most of the time it gives me good news. I think it just tells me what I want to hear.
@cfg83 It’s using outdated guidelines I’m sorry to say. “They” have moved the normal range downward.

@cfg83 Here’s the image you requested for “Apple iPhone pleading with Hippo in white lab coat. Hippo is shaking his head no and pointing the…”
@mediocrebot It’s nice, but the Hippo is a wee bit lost. I will assume there is ANOTHER exit where Dr Hippo is pointing.
@cfg83 lol

@cfg83 @Star2236 Yup, I’ve got an Omron machine here at home. It’s pretty good
/giphy Not great, Bob
