I can’t figure it out or find any info on the internet. They don’t slide in like you think they would or my wine glasses are way to big. A video would be great if someone knows. Thanks.
@Ignorant
No it’s my best friends grandpas, I think it came from Jordan, that’s where he was from and a lot f his furniture came from there. But putting them right side up makes sense.
Looks more like a wine bottle rack than a wine glass rack to me, though I have seen stemware stashed in things like that - precariously - in a few cases.
Are you sure it was mounted (or supposed to be) vertically like that? I could see it used flat where the holes are bigger than the foot, but not the bowl of the stemware.
@werehatrack
Yes the pic is rotated 90 degrees. So like someone else said you put them in and the stem slides through the hole and the glass part rest right side up instead of upside down? Sorry not at home to do it and take a pic.
@Star2236
Exactly so. Not the preferred method, as dust can collect inside the bowl, but at least the rack can slide in and out without worrying that the glassware will fall over.
@Star2236@werehatrack Yep. And you have to have the same size glassware as the previous owner. For example, your champagne flutes won’t work with it.
Another kind of stemware holder has slots where you slide in the glassware upside down. No dust in the drinking part, and any size globes/ bowls/ flutes as long as it has a footed stem.
@mike808@werehatrack
And never thought about having to have the same size glasses as the previous owner. I guess I’ll see what fits. I have way to many wine glasses anyways.
So after all that, I went to put my glasses in the rack and none fit. I don’t know what kind of tiny bottom used to fit in there but I’m gonna be on the look out from know on. For know it’s gonna continue to hold my shaker set, mixing tools and recipe books.
A few thoughts
If you put wine glasses in there open side up I would think the stems would be down too low into the bottles below.
Also, if the bases are small enough to fit through that then the globe wouldn’t be very big.
As for the discussion of champagne flutes, if this belonged to a grandfather from Jordan it probably dates back to time before flutes were used, and the standard champagne glass was more of a shallow white mouth configuration.
If you have time perhaps you could take another shot that is from more directly full on so we have a better handle on spacing from top of cabinet to rack and rack to bottom of cabinet
@Star2236 It looks like the holes are slightly different sizes, have you tried other types of non-stemmed bar glasses, like tumblers, rocks, shot glasses, etc? Anything stackable might work, so the sides aren’t straight up & down, but graduated in diameter so they don’t just fall through.
@ircon96
To big for shot glasses and I have 4 tumbles (rest are glasses) that have etching on the so I don’t want them sitting in the holes and ruining the etching. I’m just gonna measure the holes and bring a tape measure with me when I go to salvo or garage sales for anything I see that I like.
@chienfou Hey, that pic wasn’t there when i posted about the Solo cups! You’re right, seems like somebody’s prepared for a match to break out at any time!
@chienfou I noticed that, too! 4/14 happens to be my late mom’s birthday, maybe she’s trying to tell me something? (I wish she’d give me the lotto numbers or something!)
I’m wondering, given it’s such a fancy feature, that it might fit Reidel glasses. Those are the kind that don’t have a stem and were trendy bragware for a while.

Those will nestle into the cutouts and not block any space below.
@mike808
given it is from Jordan and belonged to someone’s Granfather I suspect it dates from before the rise of those type glasses.
(BTW Riedel makes lots of traditional stemware also.)
It looks like a riddling rack gone wrong. Any chance it’s missing another section or support pieces?
@LaVikinga
Not that I know of but it could. It was my best friends grandpas and she only remembers it having the one rack.
Did this come with the house? Maybe old home owner built it to exactly fit the wine glasses they had.
Is it meant to hold them up right rather than upside down like most?
@Ignorant

@Star2236 rotated the image for you.
@Ignorant @Star2236 Thank you! I had no idea the image was sideways! Just figured it was some funky built-in cabinet.

Sorry I forgot to flip the pic, it’s supposed to be horizontal.
That photo is rotated 90 degrees, isn’t it? That’s a rack for stemware. sized so that the base will drop through the hole, but not the bowl.

Nice rack.

@chienfou
Here’s a more level pic of it. As you can see the one glass I have in there has plenty of hanging room.
@chienfou @Star2236
Agree. That’s a really nice rack with plenty of hanging room.

@Star2236 Yeah, they’d definitely have to be the right size to work. Or, if all else fails, u could try Solo cups to keep handy for beer pong!
@ircon96
Beer pong, I haven’t played that in years.
@Star2236 If the cups fit, it might be a sign that it’s time to start up again!
@ircon96 @Star2236
looks like some are readily available!
