How not to land a high flight
0Ouch this hurt.
The impact cut the Velcro strap straight thru.
Rough Landing
Flew up to about 100m and as I was coming down ran into prop wash issues. Moving forward/back left/right did not give me clean air and it really started plummeting down once I was under 50m. Got concerned for a while there that I was going to land on the train trestle as it looked from the FPV as though I was on top of it, or close enough that moving for clean air might put me there, when it first started falling. Bounced HARD knocking two of the gimbal grommets loose one of which I had to go searching for as it pulled out of both plates. And as you can tell from the Velcro strap the battery weight at impact sheared it. One of the props is also damaged as the later impact with the concrete chipped off about 1/4 inch of one side of the prop. Needless to say this was a short flight day as I didn't carry spare Velcro with me. It went in the bag as soon as I got home.

Wow. The gimbal really concealed how much motion the phantom had going on, that thing was dropping pretty fast. That you only broke a strap and chipped a prop is a testament to its durability though. It got a nice bounce :)
I wonder if chopping the throttle and then spinning back up can disrupt the vortex ring state that causes it to drop like that. Not that it's something you'd think of while watching your quad drop from the sky.
@djslack actually the advised method to get to clear air is moving left, right, forward, or back. None of which helped in this situation. :(
