I… Am a horror junkie. Always have been. So, yeah, I got a few characters that I love. Sam, Pyramid Head, Freddy Kruger, just to name a few. How about you?
@Cerridwyn I LOVE me some escalating tension! The Ring got me the first time I watched it, because they set it up as a teen slumber-party slasher gore flick, but then the closest thing to gore was just flashed on screen for a few seconds. There was no time for a brain to analyze it and start picking it apart: just “ACK HORRIBLE THING!” next scene.
And the rest was mystery and build-up and twisty bits. Loves me that stuff!
As Above, So Below also takes that approach. Makes it very rewatcheable.
My favorites are the ones where the monster isn’t just boop evil, but there’s a backstory. I love tragic monsters: Imhotep in The Mummy (not horror, I know, but a terribly sympathetic monster); Daniel Robitaille in Candyman; David in American Werewolf in London. They didn’t choose to be what they were made, the world fucked them over and made them into monsters.
Funnyman is probably my favorite. It’s a terribly hilarious B film from 94 and I highly recommend you watch it if you can find it. The Englishman and I quote it at least once a day.

@mossygreen Oh man, it’s the whole movie.
Love means never saying your wife’s ensemble is ugly. Whether you feel you HAVE to or not.
I like the old Universal stuff much more than the blood and guts stuff they started making. Jump scares are much more horrifying than gore
