@JonT Funny enough, though I bought it at a medieval fair, the design for that particular dagger is actually what was used by the nazis in WWII. :| And I'm jewish. But, erm, it's cool-looking as hell.
I have a knife, I use it to open boxes. There must be some people who carry knives to use for more than that and aren't full of shit, but I haven't met them. Does anyone actually use a knife for anything "tactical," whatever that means?
I have about 15 different EDC knives not counting the 12 Ive impulse bought from Meh. 2 Hunting Knives and a survival knife. If you count Mutli tools with blades on them you can add 2 more. I like sharp things.
This is my favorite knife because it's very sharp for opening boxes of meh stuff and has wire strippers. But it doesn't have a corkscrew so I also carry a Swiss Army knife.
My favorite is more of a sword from when I considered Renfaire cosplay: an Austrian Masterpiece, hand forged by Johann Schmidberger in Austria... (the sword in the pic is not mine, but almost identical)
@duodec Bayonets are not knives. Except for when they are. And except for when they're swords. When is a blade no longer a knife and then a sword? Is there really a rule? Am I rambling? Why is there paper I've not shredded with my knife-sword-bayonet-dagger?
@cj0e A dagger is a small, small sword. A sword can be used as a knife, though it is not well suited to such use. But if all the kitchen knives are dirty, and you've got this nice clean sword just sitting there...
@nadroj Do not presume to compare some (admittedly pretty and well made) curved slicer from Japan with a fine Austrian hand and a half made for chopping up and through chain mail
@brhfl Heh! As if. Museum Replicas (still in biz) used to carry his swords, along with Del Tin, Christopher Poor, and other quality reproductions in the '90s. Now they mostly carry Indian and Pakistani stuff. So it was easy (if a little pricey) to get. But it was a once in a lifetime purchase for me; I had a baldric and scabbard made elsewhere, then got too busy with life and work and gave up on the faires.
I have a lot of knives but I don't consider my self some kind of collector of knives. I have many utility type knives at least 4 or 5. I have a few EDC type knives, including one that I literally carry everywhere. I have a couple of tactical knives that I acquired while in the military and I do have a few decorative ones too.
I didn't get in on this deal because I honestly don't need any more knives. For what it's worth my EDCs get used for 75% of my knifing duties (opening packages) and the utility knives get used for the more abusive jobs. The rest are in a box somewhere.
I have thirty-seven of these bad boys. I keep two on at all times (one outside my shirt so people know I'm packin' heat, and one inside my shirt for backup).
I got rid of most of my standard utility knives and cheap EDC type knives once I got a few of the snap-blade Olfa utility knives… those things are amazing. I have surgical scalpels that I use for paper crafts. And I have one nice Spyderco that isn't exactly tactical, but is certainly more than a utility knife. I essentially use it as a utility knife when it's convenient, but largely just love the craftsmanship.
I have a few box knives, but that's about it.
I have a bunch of those frazetta type dragon collector knives. do they count?
My only non-kitchen knife is my
GODDAMN DAGGER
@HELLOALICE that's a cool goddamn dagger. It's not motorcycle-dragon-dagger cool, but it's pretty cool.
@HELLOALICE @JonT Tough!
@JonT Funny enough, though I bought it at a medieval fair, the design for that particular dagger is actually what was used by the nazis in WWII. :| And I'm jewish. But, erm, it's cool-looking as hell.
@HELLOALICE I mean, you could use that in the kitchen…
@HELLOALICE Nice nice dagger!

@Fen_Star is murder "tactical"? Because I think some of those people probably use them for that.
@Fen_Star You should expand your social circle. Be knife.
I have lots of knives I buy to open boxes. Then I lose them. So the Circle of Knife continues.
I used to regularly lose them to the TSA (penknives), but then I quit traveling.

Do xacto knives count?
@christinerenee Not each individual blade insert. Same goes for the brain (or other) surgeons and scalpels.
I have only knifed 11-20 cretins, so I don't think I have a problem yet. All with non-'tactical' knifes. (We are not counting hatchets, yes?)
@mehjohnson As long as they're cretins, I think you can keep going indefinitely.
I can count higher than 20. No problem.
This is my favorite knife because it's very sharp for opening boxes of meh stuff and has wire strippers. But it doesn't have a corkscrew so I also carry a Swiss Army knife.
@SSteve Do want. For the wire strippers. Need a few smaller gages though.
Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Meh.
around 15 =(
Meh.
I have hundreds of knives, but that's because it's my business. :P
Does a small collection of bayonets count?

@duodec
@duodec Wait, you were merely considering such cosplay, and you imported a hand-forged sword from Austria? Hard. Fucking. Core.
@nadroj Do not presume to compare some (admittedly pretty and well made) curved slicer from Japan with a fine Austrian hand and a half made for chopping up and through chain mail

Any Knife is a Kitchen Knife once you've used it in the Kitchen.

See... I'm not crazy.
i tried to count in my head and ended up just concluding that I have a problem.
I also own the world's best utility knife according to The Sweethome

@brhfl The older Spyderco knives were really really nice.
