How Loyal/Addicted to Meh are you?
5I just realized today that my Meh addiction last month cost me $174.00 Which could equate to:
- My daily order at dunkin doughnuts for 34 days (when I go which isn't often to try to save...)
- 3/4 a pack of cigarettes a day(I don't smoke, but to put it in line with other addictions.)
- 21 growler fills... That's a lot of Beer money that goes into meh...
When compared to other addictions... How does Meh stack up?
You don't have to post how much you've spent. Just wondering if it's just me... Also I didn't buy anything over 30 last month... so it wasn't a large purchase that did that...

Just going to leave this here...
@sohmageek Is the way out getting hit by a train?
@mehdaf I believe he's referring to Meh-thadone clinics.
@mehdaf No there is a light at the end of the tunnel… just don't click meh - break that streak, cancel VMP, delete the credit card from your account (so will definitely miss the fuku then), go to bed prior to midnight EST… yup the self treatment approach.
@Kidsandliz You just want a better chance at getting a Fuku, I'm on to you! :)
@mehdaf Sounds to me like the addict is blaming the person trying to help. Let me clue you in. I am not the goat. @narfcake is the goat. Blame him. I narrowly missed that "honor" a bunch of months ago though…LOL
@Kidsandliz how do you delete your credit card info?
@RedOak I have no idea. As customer support.
@RedOak click buy it, then:
@JonT that was kinda my point, you have to buy something again to remove your credit card info. Well, OK I suppose you could cancel that order. Certainly not intuitive, but perhaps that's the point after all.
@RedOak Once you remove the cc info, why would you need to cancel the order? An order would not be made because there's no cc to charge it to. You would just exit out of that screen by clicking anywhere outside the box.
@JonT Hold on. When I click Buy It the "remove" link is not there. Same on Windows Firefox and an iPhone. . . . and when I attempt to blank out the credit card info I get a "Slow down tiger..." error message.
@JonT What it looks like for me: 'Not gonna let me out of the Meh addiction, huh? ;)
@RedOak Clarification. That remove button only appears if you have multiple credit cards on file. Apparently you cannot delete the very last one.
@cengland0 hmmm, didn't think so. . . so back to my original facetious question. Probably something to be remedied in this age of identity theft.
@RedOak Ah, my mistake. We're working on some changes to the account page that will fix this and some other problems.
@JonT Thanks. No need on my part to remove the card, but wondered how someone would have done it since I was not seeing the function.
@RedOak so change the number to something fake...
For April I spent $156, with $24 being the most expensive item. (this doesn't count VMP renewal)
I spent $39 in March, $44 if you include the VMP sub. These were small-potato offerings, the most expensive item being $18 for a pair of Contigo coffee mugs. I don't think I'm in addiction territory yet, but I could see getting there.
Meh. $35 last month, but $103 in march. My worst sin is getting three when I should get just one.
@PocketBrain Same here...if I can justify 1 then I need three
I love purple.
@Barney Phew! I was starting to get worried because I haven't seen your posts in recent days.
@Barney Buy anything yet? What if they had purple toothbrushes?
@sohmageek mmm grape
$93, which is about $63 now than it ought to be. So, I'd call it an addiction. But of the things I've received, they've all been things I'm glad to have. Especially the possessed copter.
I haven't given them much money recently, but I sent them beer, and gotten other people to send beer.
@Kevin Where are you sending the beer? Any old beer or stuff you made?
@sohmageek he's sending the beer to me. If you would also like to send beer to me, please do.
@JonT Which address @JonT? I don't brew any but there is some pretty good beer in Vermont :) Feel free to send me an e-mail to the address on file... or you should be able to figure it out pretty well... I made a box just for Meh stuff... :)
@sohmageek 3200 Belmeade Suite 100, Carrollton TX 75006
@JonT if @sohmageek is in VT, I see some Heady Topper heading your way...
@sohmageek please send Heady Topper this way.
@THumperChick I always wonder why Heady Topper is so much in demand. It's really hard to get... I have to go on my lunch just down the road to pick up a few on the delivery day, If I wait till the end of the day it's gone, If the delivery is late and not yet occured I miss that week... It's very interesting. Lots of places around here have a 2-4 pack limit... IT's weird... Also Lawson's Finest makes a Sip of Sunshine IPA that I've been told by a lot is better than Heady Topper, just made in smaller batches and less available than Heady Topper. Which is part of why I think the word hasn't gotten around about Sip of Sunshine IPA http://www.lawsonsfinest.com/beers/sip-sunshine/ Also I just found out that they aren't brewed in VT... Yet it's a VT brewery that makes it... Could be due to the volume, I hear that lawsons started in his barn with real small batches.
@JonT So the same place that you sent us the lovely return address label? :) I noticed your jobs had 2 different texas locations... So if you're at the one... Is the warehouse at the other?
@sohmageek I've had Headdy Topper and it is really good. I describe it as a really juicy IPA with out much bitterness. There is a lot of hype surrounding it, and Alchemist are too much of a tree hugger to produce more (but, at the same time quality suffers when you increase production). They are opening up a new facility in Stowe, but to produce their other beers.
@Kevin I hope they hurry up and open it. I'd love to try alchemist other offerings
@JonT What is your favorite style of beer???
@sohmageek Hmmm that's a good question. I like pretty much all styles. IPAs, Reds, Stouts, Porters, Hefs, Belgian… I would say the style I like the least is mellow summer-style pilsners and lagers, but I'll still drink Caronas with limes during the spring and summer. What can I say, I love beer.
@JonT darn. They are soo good but only this time of year. I'm usually a stout guy but recently I've wanted the blondes. I can never remember their names though... Usually cause I've had one too many. But then untapped helps.
Recently there has been a maple explosion of beer up here but it's starting to calm down. As one brewer put it, if you have a free ingredient, why not?
@sohmageek "I'm usually a stout guy but recently I've wanted the blondes." What are we talking about here?
@SIMBM Beers... What else would we be talking about?
@sohmageek Are you sure? I'm reading it another way...
@SIMBM Positive. My wife loves the blondes year round.
@JonT Hey JonT, My wife just recently visited Texas... She may have to go back out in 6-9 months... Can you recomened any good breweries?
@JonT did my Vermont care package make it in one piece?? The suspense is killing me :p
@sohmageek It did!!! Including your...30 Lenovo antennas...as dunnage? Super excited to give these a try, thanks so much!
@sohmageek I haven't managed to make it out to any brewery tours yet, but when I do these two will probably be first stops: Lakewood Brewery & Community Brewing.
@JonT I was looking around for useless things that could be funny filler items. I then got home and realized I could have used some neoprene and I meant to send some maple syrup. Maybe next time...
I spent $69 in April (+5 for VMP that month, which I canceled just before it renewed, since I am cheap as all hell). Thankfully it was mostly on stuff that's actually useful (the MetaWatch, the solar USB battery, a bulk pack of AA batteries). The Foscam was the only purchase that counts as shit I don't really need.
I've also clicked the meh button every single day last month, as well as every single day since I first came to this site. Though I missed one due to that bug where occasionally it doesn't count after you click it, but at least that was only a few days after I started.
I wish you hadn't posted this - I spent way too much. Time for an intervention. Not to mention the lack of quality sleep with the alarm set at 11:59.
@sammydog01 My wife wants to kill me for the alarm at 11:59.... But also I think I should get some more sleep... The temptation of a Fukubukuro is just so great...
@sohmageek I just read that the new fitbits have a vibration alarm so it doesn't wake up anyone else- maybe Meh will sell one to help save your marriage?
@sammydog01 That may be a good idea... but I don't like fitbits... I figured out a while ago I could out stair my wife if I just walked in a circle and rode the elevator up and down for 10 minutes... Now if Meh wants to sell them... I'm down to buying one if it's the right price!
@sohmageek But you got all that button pushing exercise- doesn't that count?
Haven't ordered since the LED bulbs in March.
I visit the site most days. However, I only have seven orders so far this year, including shirts. In recent months I've generally been too apathetic to click the meh button.
Make of that what you will.
Wow.. it is a good thing my husband doesn't see my spend on Meh.. ;) I just did January to today calc.. pheww.. and I didn't buy a tv or anything over the top!
@mikibell same here for my wife. I have a feeling that this thread did the opposite of what I was looking for. Just to see if others seem to be loyal followers not inspire flatlining sales due to over spending.
@sohmageek I am spoiled beyond belief!! I do most of the spending in our house, so it would not surprise him :)
I've spent $1540 on Meh since August. Which equates to about $171/month. Plus VMP, that's like $176/month.
I do not have a problem.
@grum You win. I'm not even triple digits combined yet.
edit: Quadruple digits that is, I have spend hundreds, not thousands.
@grum thanks for post crowd-funding meh.
@RedOak My pleasure. rolls around in piles of meh stuff. but in all seriousness, I feel like I deserve a K for this. @JonT? =P
You guys I think I really need help. I'm so addicted that I visit meh and the forums 100s of times for at least 8 hours on most days.
@JonT You need help.
/s
@JonT Nah... I think that shouldn't count... It's the off hours Meh things that you do JonT... Is it bad when we have dreams about you and @HollBoll doing more live videos... Is it? Good... Cause you haven't broken that far into my subconcious yet... Good luck with that one... It's bad enough I wake up to buy stuff and don't remember buying it.
@JonT Gee, they ought to pay you for that kind of dedication:)
@JonT Good point - there are two forms of addiction here - buying stuff we don't really need. . . and the forums addiction.
I'm afraid to look, though I know it varies from month to month and not everything is for myself.
Hmmm ... perhaps it's a good thing that AA shirts are NOT offered on a regular basis.
@narfcake Bite your Goat Tongue... I want more AA shirts... with less limits... Well a month of them would be bad... and a week would be bad too... but I wouldn't mind 1 every 2-3 weeks with a limit of 2-3 of them... I could finally clear out my older stretched out shirts that I don't wear anyway then. (but occasionaly get use when I forgot to do the laundry... it's like a laundry alarm. :) )
@sohmageek Yeah, at that pace, it'd be fine. It's if it was daily then I'd be in trouble. I guess if I counted up the number of TeeTurtle shirts I've bought, it'd be a good indicator of my "controlled" pace.
@narfcake TeeTurtle? Wait... I don't want to know... Please don't tell me!
@sohmageek Is it safe to tell you that they're having a storewide sale right now?
For a little background, Ramy started TeeTurtle the day after woot announced the blanks were changing. Also, for all those saying the women's AA shirts are small, the Next Level ones are even smaller (narrower).
@narfcake I looked it up... and it looks like a lot of mashups and cute things. While I find a few really awesome... I don't see me wearing anything. However some would make interesting posters/backgrounds/playmats...
In the 299 days I've been mediocre I've spent $967 on items, not including any money toward MVP... That's $3.23 per day I've been mediocre... So less than my cup of coffee that I used to get every day... although I didn't get it on weekends... Math doesn't change that much... Still cheaper than coffee...
301 days here... Spent $278. That includes 8 months of VMP Membership (+ 2 that were free). Less than a dollar a day. I feel like my investment has been acceptable.
I could add the $10 First Fuku Kickstarter bag, too... I guess. That bumps we up to $288.
@BillLehecka How do you resist so much..
I'm not addicted (twitch) yet. I've only received two purchases so far, and I opened one of them already. I do spend more time here (on forums mainly, but reading main site, too) than most anywhere else. It's my social media site. And people here are generally gentler than those commenting at the tech sites I read.
I don't have an alarm set, but I do wake up in the middle of the night most nights and check the new deal (twitch).
Much more addicted to the forums than I am at buying stuff. I've probably spent about $100 here... I check the forums at least ten to twelve times a day. At least.
I check-in every day (since I found the place).. don't buy every day but I definitely can't avoid checking in every day. Is that some kinda "Don't know if I'll buy.. but" addiction..?
First Purchase: July 14th, 2014
Total number of purchases: 23
Total Dollars spent: $239 (Plus VMP)
Definitely addicted, even if I forget to click the Meh button every day :)
How loyal am I?
I threw out my Woot shirt last week. Yep.
As of today I've been mediocre for 100 days. So it works out to Meh taking $3.20 each and every day since I signed up for this madness.
@Mehrocco_Mole I'm hoping that isn't your card... there is an algorithm to figure out what numbers are, oh it's expired! :) But that's easy to guess at also...
Algorithm: 4313 1300 01 XX 0270 where XX = 01,02,03...97,98,99
@mehdaf You can reverse engineer it and possibly filter out the majority of those 100 possibilities by processing it through the Luhn algorithm. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luhn_algorithm
@cengland0 Or you can use pictures from a google search instead of your own. I work for a financial institution so I know how this works.
@Mehrocco_Mole I work for a financial institution too and started my career in the credit card division and remained there for the first 8 years out of the 25 years in the industry.
@cengland0 11 years so far. My badge unlocked the door tonight so I still have a job. I'm a supervisor but I also do credit card, IRA/certificates, electronic services, and fraud/disputes assist for our branches and contact centers.
@Mehrocco_Mole Usually when a bank offers a credit card, they don't do their own servicing. The customer calls a toll-free number and I worked in that call center. Started out as a customer service representative, worked my way up to correspondence, then into the training organization. So it was great detail about how to detect fraud, determine that you're talking to the actual customer, calculating average daily balance, opening disputes, writing off charges/fees, mailing out new cards, processing lost/stolen cards, closing accounts for domestic disputes, explaining the credit agreements, etc. I think most banks don't go into that sort of detail and ask the customer to contact the credit card center for those issues.
@cengland0 The only thing we do not service ourselves are VISA prepaid gift cards. We sell them at face value but don't service them. Everything else; mortgages, IRAs/certificates, ordering checks, web access, and more we support and service. And everyone you would talk to is an employee located in the US open 24/7/365 (including Christmas).
@Mehrocco_Mole @cengland0 I wonder how many of us are in the financial industry. Just like I wonder how many are in IT.
@sohmageek add me to both counts 😭
@mikibell Me too! :)
This thread is making me think that, somewhere on our account page, we need a thing which sums up the total amount of money we've spent on Meh, as well as any other Mediocre e-commerce sites should any of them ever come to fruition.
@lljk IT'd be great to have one sum up the times we "saved" by pressing Meh instead... but then there are the times where we hit Meh and bought it anyway...
@lljk @JonT @snapster how about meh implement a feature that includes a '$' next to someone's username in the threads according to the total amount they have spent at this site. $$ for less than 100, $$$ for less than 1,000 etc.
@mehdaf I know, how about a square next to your icon that changes color depending on how many purchases you have:
Orange = 2
Red = 3-9
Brown = 10-24
Green = 25-49
Purple = 50-99
Black = 100+
And then you can have triangle colors that will determine how much you participate in the forums
I'm sure this is a unique idea that no site has ever used before, right?
@cengland0 Exactly
@lljk I posted a quick script a while ago that summed up your item totals from your orders page: https://meh.com/forum/topics/how-much-money-have-you-wasted-here
@grum Whoo! I've only spent $60. But I've only been here since the end of March.
@lljk do you think meh wants to encourage this type of self-awareness?
@RedOak I ordered one of those alarm clocks, because $5. Then I remembered my response to this thread. So I cancelled. It was after the clock was sold out, so it's probably still sitting in the warehouse. Self awareness is bad for business.
Well this is somewhat depressing.... I shouldn't have looked.
In 222 days I have spent just shy of $900. So about $4/day. Which in retrospect doesn't seem too bad since I have bought some really cool stuff. Like a new Canon camera for the wife or a drone for myself.
I had free VMP from Dec 22, to April 22. I purchased very little. Since April 23, I've bought 6 items.
$446, 15 purchases, 7 months. VMP is paying for itself for me. Oh wait, plus the VMP socks and phone holder, woo hoo!
meh
$311 spent not including VMP or stuff from Mediocre.com. I obviously tend to buy cheaper items as I've had 31 purchases. I've been mediocre for 307 days and have 194 meh face clicks in a row thanks to one of the click glitches.
$345 plus VMP since Aug 2014
Since July 8, 2014 I've spent $698, not counting VMP.
My husband has an account too and he's probably spent about half that.
$369 since last July. I started to feel concerned then realized that less then my wife spends at target on a regular basis.
@DaveInSoCal Yes, but Target has things like food and toilet paper.
@sammydog01 meh
@sammydog01 Meh should sell toilet paper.
@duodec only if it comes in like a 6 month supply. And it has to be decent toilet paper. Not the sandpaper you find at most local retail establishments. At my fathers job they had someone stealing toilet paper. They wanted to find out who. Management wanted to reprimand. Fellow employees wanted to buy something decent for the poor guy.
I've spent $358 since mid December. I don't think I've used, or needed, any of the crap I bought.
I don't think the people I gave some of the crap to have used it, either.
I seem to visit Meh every night, but I'm not loyal to it. I have stated several times in the forums that I often see the same shit sold elsewhere, including Woot, for less. I also have not been impressed by Meh's customer service (or lack thereof). I honestly feel that Meh looks to the "community" to cover for their faults and lack of competence. To me that's unacceptable.
Now where's the Midland camera mount???
@eyewerks Whenever you find the product cheaper elsewhere, why don't you help out the community and post a link to it in the forums?
@cengland0 @eyewerks I tend to see some of the same products here and woot, here is usually $1 to 10% cheaper than Woot... I tend to not make a lot of woot references to meh or comparisions however.
@sohmageek I agree with you but I was challenging @eyewerks to link to his claims. Also, I get free shipping on meh and I have to pay $5 for shipping on Woot which still makes it cheaper here if the prices were the same up-front.
@cengland0 The products that I have seen cheaper elsewhere are not always offered on the same day that they're sold here. Even if they were, I would NOT post links to the other merchant's deals in the Meh forums ( even though I might mention that I saw a better deal elsewhere). I think it would be hugely disrespectful to use a site owned by a business to direct their customers to another merchant thereby stealing their business. I wouldn't do that, ...and neither should any of you. Say it's cheaper elsewhere, but posting links crosses a line.
@sohmageek One example that comes to mind are the Dyson vacuums that were offered here a few weeks back. The base model was about $180, the Animal about $50 more, and a model with even more accessories for an even higher price. The Animal model was sold at Woot about a week later for $199. (All were refurbs). The price differential was significant.
My intention is to encourage Meh to be more competitive and offer us the best possible pricing, but not to steal their business.
@eyewerks Like it is at Woot (most of the time), price comparison is encouraged here.
"Find a relevant price comparison? Please share it in a comment in this thread :) "
It's a part of the openness that makes both of these sites stand out from other retail sites.
@eyewerks So what you're saying is that Meh does have the lowest price at the time it was offered but a competitor ended up selling it later for a lower price. If that is true, then meh's prices were still the best at the time.
We encourage people to post links to the product if it is lower or even higher elsewhere. It allows the members to make informed decisions. Even the first post of each product thread contains links to other sites for price comparison.
I think the problem is that the day the product is sold, you cannot find the price lower. Meh does research before selling the product and tries to be lower than anyone else and that's what makes it a deal site instead of just a discount site.
@cengland0 Items like the Dyson vacuums tend to be offered on sale for a day or two by most merchants. I often see The Animal version selling elsewhere for significantly less than it is offered at Meh, but not on the same day. Meh might beat most "everyday" pricing, but not everyone's blow out specials.
I'm only still here because I heard there would be nachos.
@Pavlov At some point you gotta get sick and tired of nothing but steak, salad and a bowl of nuts.
@Pavlov I think the nachos are a trap... But Here I'll help out a bit... http://www.amazon.com/Chef-mate-Bueno-Cheese-6-Pounds-10-Ounce/dp/B008CFOE66/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1431175388&sr=8-2&keywords=nacho+cheese http://www.amazon.com/Disposable-Clear-Plastic-Nacho-Trays/dp/B00FZQC4YO/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1431175388&sr=8-10&keywords=nacho+cheese http://www.amazon.com/Gold-Medal-Products-Grande-Tortilla/dp/B00MGDTHO4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1431175480&sr=8-2&keywords=nacho+chips+bulk
@eyewerks I mix it up with different veggies and seafood . . . and when I travel it is hard to stay on the regimen, but, I really like steak. Plus, one day every week or two I eat whatever I want - which helps. I used to take a day off every week, now it is usually every other week if I am not on the road.
@sohmageek All the fixins' for ballpark nachos. Thanks! My son will like the trays, so I ordered them. I think I'll pass on the canned cheese. I'm still wanting /waiting to see if Irk actually gets the nachos (maybe on National Nachos Day [Nov. 6th]) . . .
@Pavlov Not a problem... I should have spaced a bit better... That's quick amazon searching on an iPhone for you, (or at work on work phone... Can't remember which I did.)
I think it's a cult.
@Teripie It's probably just an offshoot of Scientology. Just remember: don't drink any Kool-Aid, don't eat apple sauce, and it anyone tries to offer you a new pair of Nikes turn and run for your life.
@Teripie This is the cult you're looking for... and @eyewerks PLEASE don't give them an idea of selling Nikes... or it may be the Factory seconds Nikies
I have VMP, that's basically the litmus test for this.
Bought at least one thing every month since November, justifying VMP. Until this last month. Haven't bought anything since before May 13 or so. If something good doesn't come up that I manage to get in on for Friday then VMP is going bye bye. It'll be a sad day.... Until the next purchase.
This is a terrible statistical question because of outliers.
