@jqubed, that's pretty good.
@ACraigL The best TWC offers here is 300/20, I think. I strongly suspect they'd still be sitting at 100/10 if Google Fiber wasn't coming to the area, even though they insist that had no bearing. I'm sure it has nothing to do with AT&T upgrading their Uverse service to GigaPower, either. 😒 Unfortunately, Google Fiber isn't coming to my suburb.
@jqubed Google Fiber is flirting with Jacksonville FL, and the suspense is killing me. 'Ongoing negotiations', then up to 18 months for construction if the decision is made. No timeline.
@OldCatLady Perhaps we could offer them some of the $45million the city council wants to give the Jaguars.
@magic_cave Ah! A fellow sufferer!
@jqubed - All the comments had me curious - Google Fiber has a long way to go . https://fiber.google.com/newcities/
@KDemo It's amazing what the threat of competition does in markets where they plan to go, though. The fastest fiber AT&T offers me is 12 Mbps. Time Warner Cable's fastest speed was 50 Mbps. Then in January Google announces they're coming here and Time Warner Cable boosts their highest speed to 300 Mbps and I'm now getting 200 Mbps for the same price I used to pay for 30 Mbps. AT&T is starting to upgrade their service to gigabit speeds throughout the market. Of course, they say Google has nothing do with it, but the timing seems curious.
@jqubed - Haha - guess we owe Google gratitude. Weird that it seems to be limited to the more southern parts of the country.
I got a ping of 14ms, a download of 28.21 and it locked up on the upload test. That's bad, isn't it?
@sammydog01 Try again?
@jqubed Ping 15, download 29.07, upload .58
@sammydog01 The Verizon network diagnostic tool is spinning it's wheels. No wonder everything is slow.
@sammydog01 That sounds like a problem. You might want to contact your ISP.
@jqubed Verizon said it's the router. They're sending me a new one. Thanks for the heads up- it's really hard to do anything on a computer with .07 upload speed.
at work. I did the share then went to image and put the link with no modification. .png
@connorbush
internet pirated from my neighbor
@KDemo That's more like how mine was before TWC upgraded their speeds.
@jqubed - Is it somewhat decent, though? I guess it means the horrible performance is all in my computer. (I opted for a slower speed to save $).
@KDemo Yeah, it's decent. I think YouTube's top quality 1080p stream is 10 Mbps so you should be good unless you're trying to stream 4K video. That would be at the top end of your capabilities, depending on who you're trying to stream from.
@jqubed - TBH, I never noticed the difference when I changed to this speed. Made me mad that I was paying extra for so many years. Thanks so much for the info.
@KDemo Yeah, unless you're doing heavy downloads you probably won't notice much difference in day-to-day browsing.
@KDemo You want horrible, scroll down and see mine. Mine are beyond pitiful.
I only have the second level for FiOS, works great. I could go up to 500Mb/s, but it's not necessary.
@The_Baron I get about the same
@jqubed @acraigl @the_baron y'all suck :P
My Verizon and my Wi-Fi. The home service is supposed to be 50mbit I just haven't felt like dealing with cable customer service. But it's sad that Verizon does better from a tower than suddenlink does with a wire to my house. (Wired network speed in my office is about the same, Wi-Fi isn't the bottleneck here)
@djslack Sometimes it depends on how far away you are from a relay or if it's connected with your home cable wiring that has a lot of branches.
I live in an old 19th century row house with lath and plaster walls, so I have to deal with a lot of wireless fuckery to get the entire house connected.
@The_Baron Thanks. I'll have to check the house wiring and see if I can eliminate branches, nothing is connected but the modem. At my old house they had to put in a splitter and hang the cable modem off the -7dB side because the signal was too hot. I got great speeds there.
@djslack Howdy. That does suck, but I can tell you from experience that Suddenlinks customer service is awesome. You don't even have to call them! The Suddenlink website live chat actually has the power to modify your account. I recently used it to upgrade my service. Everytime I check it, I'm getting at least the 50mbit I pay for. AT&T has salespeople knocking on my door at least 3 times a month promising they can outperform my current service, they ask me a few questions, try to tell me "well that's what they say you are getting but you aren't really". One of the girls, after I told her I test my service regularly using more than one style of speed test, stopped trying to sell me their service and wanted to come inside to watch me do a test. lol.
I got a little off track there, anyway, their Live Chat Reps are more than salespeople, you might want to check that out.
current wifi speed
We pay for 100 down 10 up.
Current work speed: (ISP info cropped out for secrecy)
@medz where the shit do you work ??
@connorbush this is what @medz will probably say...
LOL
@medz A+ is right!
Work has 4 bonded T1 lines. We get 5.1 down and up. So very fast compared to the old 56K leased line connections we had in the before time ;)
@duodec 5.1Mb?
@Stallion Looks like it, each T1 line carries 1.5 Mb/s.
@cutroil @Stallion correct. 6Mbps theoretical, 5.1 is actual when there is no other traffic. It sucks considering we have to support a lot of microsoft crap so we're downloading tools and patches and ISOs all the time.
@duodec Ah, I remember when a T1 seemed fast. Our school had one; so much better than the dial-up at home.
Well mine sucks as usual (in the boonies about 40 miles from town). And these are, by the way, with only me online. When there are two of us, cut these numbers in half. Think I have any hope of a fuku? LOL
Of course I get 0 to 1 bars on my cell phone too...
Did it again
Do I win anything for the slowest speeds?
@Kidsandliz - Ouch - poor baby.
@KDemo Yeah - can we say might as well have dial up? LOL
@Kidsandliz Damn that is weak, my phone can crush that. No hate though, I feel for you, hope that jack it way up soon!
You're just using this to scope out your fuku competition, aren't you?
@Thumperchick Well clearly I am not competition until turtles win over rabbits LOL
@Thumperchick I've never even tried for one! 😁
It plays the Hulu, it gets the photos on the Flickr… Don't really need much more.
@brhfl Looks about the same as mine, neighbor
Pretty much get what I pay for, $30/month.
get on my level!
@Nemesis158 Damn, I want.......
How the hell are some of you guys getting a gigabyte
@wellsroderick
No one's even close to that. A couple are almost a gigabit which is rare but not surprising in major cities.
@wellsroderick some people work at places with gigabit. some people live in a cities with gigabit (century link, google fiber, ting gigabit, Chattanooga)
@wellsroderick Someday...

Meh
MY LIFE FOR SONIC
@cutroil thought sonic would have done better than that
@Cerridwyn I have Fusion, which I believe is just repackaged AT&T service. Sonic doesn't deliver their real stuff to my area. It's not a great deal... I only switched because I was so fed up with Comcast.
@cutroil ah okay. My daughter has 'real' sonic down in San Jose and it rocks majorly. and is cheap too.
(http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4883055187)
was going to fix the formatting, but lost the connection altogether. I'm on limited microwave service. If the trees around here get any taller, I won't even have that.
@walarney Buy a knife from meh, and go cut down some branches.
Just under 20 Mb/s down, 6 Mb/s up. 13 ms latency, 2 ms jitter. (sigh) I really don't want cable. I am able to use my VoIP phone (Ooma rox!) and can stream movies with very little buffering pauses (Amazon is much slower than Netflix).
Current Work Internet (ISP info cropped out for secrecy)
@kyle170 @medz you guys co-workers?
@connorbush I can neither confirm nor deny this.
@connorbush @medz no comment.
@kyle170 http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/8/30/1325887/-Fastest-Internet-in-US-It-s-Chattanooga-TN-Thanks-to-Local-and-Fed-Ps-Big-Cable-Very-Angry
Well that explains a lot. But how do I know if computer or service ?
@ceagee Try a couple computers, plugged directly into the modem?
The struggle is real
Yeah, this is from my house. Sorry, world.
@mitchell2222 Nice! Fiber's not available at my house even though there's a fiber cable under my street!
@mitchell2222 hi! do you need a roommate?
@carl669 sorry, my wife is my roommate. :)
Also, it's only $70 a month.
@Kyser_Soze Darn... sadly the older generation that is usually running local, state and national legislation doesn't seem to realize that a faster internet improves basically everything in the immediate locality of the improvement. Odd that you already have the infrastructure and still don't have it though. That is normally the biggest issue.
The good news is I am paying for 50Mb/s .
the bad I have a data cap of 1tb a month.
The good news is in the year I have had it I have only hit .9 TB once, and average .7 TB
My last provider (CenturyLink) offered 7 Mb/s and I got 6.2 so when I called and they said, and I am not joking 6.2!?! that is amazing for 7, I then asked why do you call it 7 than you should call it 6 and when people get 6.2 they will think you are amazing instead of liars. Silence. The best thing about my current provider is when I got my 50 my first test was 57Mb/s (which was ironic as it was 7Mb/s over the speed I was paying for and I said amazing.)
Full instructions visit http://www.speedtest.net/ you will see so many advertisements, what you are looking for is the begin test button on the map.
After your test is complete (it runs 2x once up and once down) a new screen showing your results shows up.
Easier way to share is to press the share button>embedded button>copy button on the speedtest.net's website then paste your results here.
I was checking into upgrading the modem yesterday. Soon....I will do this soon...
But maybe I'll wait until the Gigabit service is available in our area. Only one neighborhood in San Diego has it so far.
@lisaviolet So A+ isn't good enough for you ?
I have speed envy. Sorry for the snark. It's all @taRDy's fault.
@ceagee Not when others are getting higher speeds for the same price we pay, gosh darn it.
@lisaviolet, If you are bothered with me causing @ceagee's snark, have no fear! I can update my chrome extension to remove any post made by @ceagee from your webpage. I will also be adding a feature that will autocorrect the mis-casing of my username. -TaRDy
@TaRDy That was snark? Damn it, I thought I finally had a handle on the concept. - sigh -
@lisaviolet @ceagee Yeah, @mitchell2222 is getting 900 Mbps for the same price as my 200 Mbps! I want that!
@jqubed Noo....people using Cox in San Diego, the same place where I get my internet from, are getting Gigablast. I am not. Just because it's not yet available in my area of San Diego shouldn't matter.
I want a discount, damn it! (laughing)
Yup, Cox.
My internet speed? Have any of you ever exterienced driving a 1960 volkswagen?
@cranky1950 There's a whole thread of VW lovers on here !
@ceagee, @cranky1950 Me, me!
I wanna see @snapster's. He said something in a streaming drone video about having 40gb speed at his house. Linky
@medz I think he misspoke and meant 40 mb/s.
This is the Mac Mini - wired. The first one is MacBook Pro - Wireless.
@marklog I win for strangest stats. Also I think some of my download got stopped at the border.
I got 1.21mb/s download. .32mb/s upload. I never get to Netflix and chill.
@phatmass You and me both. If you want to feel any better I am even slower than you are... not a contest I want to win LOL
@phatmass I get about the same on download and I have only occasional problems with Netflix. (No HD, though.)
I'm happy considering I pay for a 35/35 plan.
Ran the app on my phone and got 16.83 down / 20.03 up.
dang
@Cerridwyn how much are you paying for fios?
do they offer the 100down/25up and the 300down/100up plans for you?
@communist basic service for a year was paid in my lease. So I have the package including phone for dirt cheap. I'll probably lower the TV to basic when my year is up. But my internet right now is 20 a month, until July.
This is the fastest we could get at the (soon to be closed) office. The street is at the tail end of Verizon's system from the next city over, and since there's only 5 buildings on this stretch, there's no ROI for them to upgrade anything.
