@PooltoyWolf yep,I have a nice DSLR & several lens. But still I use my phone to capture some minor stuff. Although I have NOT used my SLR in a long while, I will keep it. Along with my Darkroom set up.
@mycya4me@PooltoyWolf My high school had a darkroom, but I never heard of anyone other than students on publications committees occasionally using it. I think it was mostly used for making out.
@mycya4me@PooltoyWolf
Active equipment:
Pixel 7 Pro phone
Canon ELPH 115is
Panasonic Lumix TS25
Canon ELPH 190is
Canon SX620
Nikon L830
Nikon D300 (not the 300S, dammit)
Nikon D7500
In the closet:
Nikon F Photomic N
Speed Graphic
Those last two are around because I just can’t let go of them. The 4x5 is in mint condition. The ancient F is a retired newspaper photog’s old unit from the early '60s. It’s a decade newer than I am.
@Star2236 I still have most of my darkroom equipment, and my daughter allegedly wants it. The enlarger will need a new baseboard at this point, the particle board has swelled at the edges. I last used it 20+ years ago to make a Velox for some ad copy. I still have my old 85-line contact halftone screen.
@werehatrack
I loved my darkroom and being able to take my time and not being on a class schedule or have anybody else bothering me in there. I just moved so many times it wasn’t worth carrying around. I prefer the older equipment (though that’s what I learned off of) as opposed to some modern day stuff that does more for you. I feel like you have more control over the exposer. Give it to your daughter, it might be a fun bonding experience for you both. She might also really enjoy it. You can always take it back if she doesn’t use it.
@PooltoyWolf@tinamarie1974 Kudos. I like the composure.
It also has a certain mood, or combination of moods, to it. I can’t decide for myself whether the light sky lightens the macabre feeling or heightens it.
@phendrick@tinamarie1974 Thanks! This was my personal favorite from that roll, which also included Spaceship Earth and the museum where I work. I can share more on request.
@blaineg@chienfou I had one of those, too. The picture quality was fine for pre-teen me. I don’t remember using another camera until I got a Nikon FG SLR for my 21st birthday, but surely I didn’t use that thing for 8-10 years.
@blaineg@chienfou Is that a 110? Looks too modern. I remember having one like that with a flash cube. When I upgraded to my Kodak Disc Camera in the 80’s I felt like a pro heh
Totally depends on the reason:
Phone for “snapshots”
Canon DSLR or utra-telephoto P&S for pics I intend to keep or use for prints/posters/mugs etc.
Older Canon P&S in an underwater housing or newer (smaller) Vivitar for poolside/kayaking/beach/snorkeling/diving pics
Same Vivitar for action (Go-Pro style) shots like zip-lining in Colorado with the Grandson etc.
For a quick shot I’ll just use my phone. For video I’ve got a handful of GoPros that do a good job. For up in the sky stuff, I’ve got a Mavic drone that does 4K. For stills I have an old Canon 50D with some pretty good glass. I’ve got portrait lenses that were more than a car payment and a telephoto lens that was more than my mortgage payment. Please don’t ever tell my wife that.
@somf69 I do have my dad’s old Pentax ME Super SLR. It’s got to be at least 40 years old. It was the camera I learned how to shoot on. You had to really think about your settings because you couldn’t take 600 shots in an afternoon and make slight adjustments. I actually recently bought three rolls of 35mm film and I’m toying around with the idea of loading it up again. Just not sure where to get it developed these days. I’m guessing there is an online option.
@capnjb@somf69 I have a couple rolls rattling around my freezer. I guess they’re still usable, but I haven’t used my SLR for years. If you can still buy film, there’s got to be someone out there who develops it.
Shove them in my bag when no one’s looking and quickly walk out…
@shahnm
I’m generally indifferent to them. That’s my take.
All of the above!

Selling my darkroom was the worst mistake ever. I just didn’t have a place for it for a long time.

Either on phone or iPad
Digital camera (full-size mirrorless and a pocket-size zoom) and my 35mm film camera is retired. I use my phone also.
Here’s a shot I took with my nearly 80 year old Kershaw 120 film camera:
@PooltoyWolf very cool!!! Where is that?
@tinamarie1974 Boneyard Beach near Jacksonville, Florida.
@PooltoyWolf @tinamarie1974 Kudos. I like the composure.

@PooltoyWolf You’ve posted some great travel photos here several times - I think you’re a very good photographer. Please post more!
@Kyeh Thank you!
Depends on the situation
Used to be a Minox, yes the spy camera of many movies. Also some Minoltas that were nearly as small.
@blaineg
I had one of these back in the day
not nearly as small, but very ‘pocketable’
@blaineg @chienfou I had one of those, too. The picture quality was fine for pre-teen me. I don’t remember using another camera until I got a Nikon FG SLR for my 21st birthday, but surely I didn’t use that thing for 8-10 years.

@capnjb
Yep. It was a pretty good little camera in it’s time.
(mine was actually a 400 if I remember correctly and had a few more bells and whistles)
Not as well as everyone else seems to.
@katbyter Look at mine on the IRK reveal thread, and you should feel better.
@phendrick Looked like there was an oily fingerprint on the lens.
Point and click
Depends if they’re of my neighbor’s wife.

It’s all about the glass.

some things are best left unsaid. OTOH I am sure (your) SWMBO (like mine) is happy with the results.
@chienfou I don’t ask her about shoes and candles and she doesn’t ask me about gadgets and pew-pews. It’s the secret to our wonderful marriage
@capnjb
@capnjb @chienfou Yep, I have a similar arrangement with my wife (except her passion is sewing/fabric).
@chienfou @macromeh We walk the path in front of us.
With my original Canon AE1
