How Cold Is It?
18Portions of the country are experiencing record low temperatures today. I'm in New York and my outside thermometer says it's 1.5 degrees. I'm sure the "Real Feel" is minus something. Heading to warmer climate sounds appealing, except for the part where I have to go outside to get there.

@mikibell I am too weak to resist this :)
@mfladd this was what I image searched, no good results though.
@mikibell I hear ya. Tried the same.
It’s so cold that I can’t even get into a heated argument with @Pavlov.
@MrsPavlov That's cold!
Politicians have their hands in their own pockets.
@melwin
It is so cold it makes this look warm...
13 degrees and falling in Philly. It will drop to around 6°F tonight.
@The_Baron Yup. Currently showing 9 in Haverford.
Highs in the 50s, lows in the 40s. Come on out to Western Washington for breakfast!
@KDemo Sounds nice, but I'd have to go outside first to get there and I don't want to do that.
@heartny yeah come on out! we've got awesome banana bread! @KDemo offered to pay as well!
@carl669 - I will! They'll take an oversized Michael Jackson bobblehead as payment, right?
Hubby's phone says it is -3°, mine says 1°, we are so lucky our pretty new pellet stove works!
It's so cold here in SoCal that I need to change from a tank top to a t-shirt!
(FWIW, I've been outside Minneapolis before when it was -33, so I do understand what some of you are going through. Flight continued to Denver, where it was 10 degrees warm.)
@narfcake I actually had to wear socks tonight (Temecula). Moved here 4 years ago from the northeast, specifically for the climate. I remember winters in NH with 20 below or lower...
@narfcake
@VogonPoet I'm still in sandals here in the San Gabriel valley.
@thismyusername Try 60 degrees. And heaven forbid if something wet falls from the sky. OMG, WE'RE ALL GONNA DROWN!
@thismyusername I looked at the forecast, and got excited that Monday is predicted to be almost 40. I won't even need to wear a jacket!
winter is coming
Supposed to get up to 90 tomorrow. I did grow up where my hair would freeze in the winter. Which is one of many reasons I live where I can wear sandals year 'round.
@AnnaB damn you!
I'm from Northern Michigan so I can get away with this.
22 below this mourn and the water pipe froze..used my wifes hairdryer to thaw it out after digging out 3 foot of snow and to get to crawl space
@lepak47 - You win! ah . . lose.
@lepak47 where do you live the north pole?
@lepak47 You live somewhere that can reach -22 deg and you have water pipes running through a crawl space??
Mobile home?
@lepak47 Cohassett minnesota and yes to the manufactured dwelling unit, this is a good year usually alot colder. around groundhogs day in 96 i had 53 below zero on the thermometer. they say it keeps the bugs down in the summer
heater went out on the truck too
@lepak47 Well, as they say, "When you're hot, you're hot!"
No, maybe not......
Currently 6 above, but all uphill from here. By this time tomorrow it will be all the way up to 23!
Minus 4 degrees (WCF -26) and falling. It's going to be another 3 cat night. I hope they don't push me to the edge of the bed again.
Oh in WNY here. Kinda not unusual for winter it's just been so crazy warm up until now.

I feel bad about whining about our 25 degree low. Sort of, I'm Southern. I am NOT built for the cold.
I am in a small town in PA near the OH border that gets the Lake Erie effect. Currently 1F and predicting lower but has been up and down.
I think it was two years ago when the North East went thru that deep freeze. I came down to the kitchen the first night, it must have been -20 or lower, I hear this loud crinkling sound and look down at the kitchen door and see ice creeping into the house!
@fjp999 I love western PA. Wouldn't mind moving to the Grove City area. Wendell August Forge is awesome.
@hems79 Haven't been to the Forge but Slippery Rock area is very picturesque.
I am in Sharon, PA and the art scene is BOOMING for some odd reason!
I moved back to help my parents (Tokyo, San Francisco) still tough getting use to after a decade here but... a newly formed art group of 500+ artist is CRAZY for this rust belt town.
@fjp999 Grew up in North East, small town in PA near the NY border.
It's pretty cold (here in VT). The outside sensor on the boiler and the outdoor thermometer agree on -14F. The boiler is cranking. I see mostly lower temps at nearby weather stations listed on intellicast.com, most of those are at higher elevations.
I just took the dog out. We only stayed out maybe 40 seconds.
@HeadfoneJack Hi Fellow Vermonter! We went to see a movie it was -5 on the car before +5 after... I thought it was a bit fun that way :)
9 Degrees right now in central VA. Tomorrow we expect a couple inches of snow followed by sleet followed by a few hours of freezing rain. Bummer because I was going to take the teens to see Deadpool.
-7 right now -21 w/ the windchill in northeast PA. Eff this, I want to move somewhere warmer.
My wife used to live in Florida and said she missed having different seasons when living there. Give me "missed having different seasons" over this crap.
so I woke up and it's even colder
lolololol
@Lotsofgoats So if I fall asleep, it'll be warmer? Great idea! I'd (un)blame you for that, but not today.
@Lotsofgoats You only have yourself too blame. This month.
-11 currently, windchill -24. I had to go online to find this out because my wireless outdoor thermometer stopped working. And my yoga mat has been in the car all night, and it's time to go to yoga class. Thinking (again) about moving south. Hope the car starts. Ain't got no more lard....
@gregormehndel you know it's cold when the electrons quit moving. :)
Well, it is a bit nippy out. I had to switch from a windbreaker to a light jacket.
Been in the 70's - will be 78 on Friday... my snowblower and snow shovels are in the storage unit. Grew up in the snow belt, spent one winter in NW ontario running dog sleds (kid program) and using outhouses at 40 below. No running water or electricity and if you didn't thaw the logs before you put them in the wood burning stove they were so cold they'd put out the fire. So cold that if you washed your jeans, put them outside to sublimate to dry, banged them against a tree to get ice off likely you'd break off one or both legs of the jeans.
Ok so we'd never have enough snow here to do this but maybe someone can use this up north and text it to their boss
The upside is y'all don't have to worry about zika mosquitoes.
It is -4° today...snow expected. Tomorrow, it will be 54°...

Probably going to be wearing shorts this week.
woooo! Moose legs!
@hallmike Actual moose legs, much like my legs, are gangly and awkward and best kept hidden in ponds and deep snow drifts
@Moose
Had to run the Air Conditioning yesterday.. BUT i have had to travel to Chicago twice in the last month so I feel for you guys.....
They told us to stay off the roads, but it's half price candy day and I have CVS bucks that expire tomorrow. Peeps, here I come.
It's going to be in the mid 70s here in southern Missouri at the end of the week.
We just got the email that we're offically open but go home if you think you might not make it home later. Bring your computer home.
Now it is going to be 71 on Wednesday. In Kansas City, in February.
We're all gonna die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@MrsPavlov Sure, if you wait around long enough.
@cranky1950 Um, yeah - kind of like how death and divorce are responsible for ending 100% of marriages..... : )
We're all gonna die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (because weather)
@MrsPavlov Well yeah, but it'll be zika zombies or something like that, or tornadoes in Feb which shouldn't show up till April, or ancient viruses from the polar melt. Not the weather directly. Meanwhile clean the snow off the balcony so you can tan tomorrow.
