@mycya4me@toycardriver That’s probably cuz my redneck townie neighbors bought them all & went so overboard they scared my hard-of-hearing elderly dog half to death. With any luck, they lost a few appendages, so maybe we won’t have to listen to them finishing off their arsenal all summer, like we normally do.
@ircon96@mycya4me@toycardriver california heat belt here. they are progressively becoming more illegal, to the point of raids/sting operations and jail time.
When my offspring was little, where we lived they were legal because we had the largest US fireworks factory not far down the road, After it blew up, laws started to change. I honestly don’t miss it, but I’m old so…
Eh, they’ve seen better days, but also worse days, so I can’t complain too much.
Mostly sore because I crochet and knit. And when I’m not doing that I really waste time playing minesweeper on my phone, which doesn’t help.
@werehatrack Same. Hands, a little weathered and scarred up but otherwise fine. Left foot however, not so much. An old injury from 31 years ago, while reasonably OK for many years, has come back to haunt me.
@ircon96 Given the stuff that some places use in a fancy pedicure, tempura batter would be pretty tame as long as the feet weren’t getting deep-fried in the bargain.
I’m going to be having surgery on my right hand and wrist soon. They hurt all the time and my fingers get stuck closed. It will be nice to have it fixed.
@kittykat9180 How can you have Man’s hands if you are a Female? I guess they are softer than a Normal male! So they are a bit larger, So what!! That is what makes you Unique!
@mycya4me, not just larger. They’re ugly like men’s hands too. Not really soft either.
Chop my hands off and surgically suture them on a man and you wouldn’t know they weren’t his real hands. (Given skin tone matched)
@Kyeh I bet it looks great! Teal has always been my favorite of the funky hair colors, it seems to flatter a wide range of skin tones, unlike some of the shades they come up with. (Billie Eilish Green, I’m looking at you! )
@ircon96 It’s pretty pale, just a tint, so that people kind of look twice - but it’s fun. I put purple in behind it; trying for a kind of Aurora Borealis effect.
@ircon96@Kyeh
I agree, great choice!
I LOVE that aurora borealis hair color, but on other people only because I couldn’t pull it off! I’ve seen some pretty amazing videos on IG of crazy cool colors for dye jobs.
Don’t you wear gloves when applying it though? You could do a matching aurora borealis manicure…
@werehatrack It’s not evenly-colored enough to look good (plus I hate wearing nail polish.) I just need to use a little rubbing alcohol to clean them up but I won’t even bother with that unless I go somewhere.
@ircon96@Lynnerizer Nah, no gloves - as I said above, I can get the color off if I really want to with rubbing alcohol. Just not bothering because nobody else is seeing it!
@Kyeh I have acrylic nails (with red glitter gel) because my natural ones have become so brittle that they will break back into the quick if I don’t have something to reinforce them. It’s not a cheap fix, but to me it’s worth the effort and expense.
@werehatrack I would really hate those - I can’t stand the feeling of extra weight, miniscule as it is, and I don’t like having to worry about marring the finish somehow if I’m gardening or whatever. It’s a shame in a way - I’ve always had strong nails that grow out easily but I don’t like to keep them long.
@Kyeh@werehatrack I have exactly the same situation–my nails grow way too fast for my liking. I cut them off as soon as any white starts to show at the tips. I can’t stand anything collecting under them, they don’t look right with polish because they’re too manly & i HATE when they catch on something, probably due to the trauma of having to have my thumbnail removed as a kid when it got caught in a car door. The base had popped out, so they had to cut it away from the nail bed to allow it to grow back. Changing the bandages was the most painful thing i had ever been through up to that point. Unfortunately, a couple of experiences have taken over the top spot through the years, but I’ll never forget that feeling & to this day, i have the constant reminder of scar tissue in the nail bed that makes trimming that nail uncomfortable. Not to mention, the only thing that gets to me in horror movies is anything to do with fingernails. Ugh.
@ircon96@werehatrack Euww. Sorry you had that trauma, yuck! I never minded long nails (or extremely long hair) when I was a teen, but now I just find it annoying to have hair that gets in my way too much or nails that catch on things or get stuff caught under them, as you say. The current fashion for ultra long pointy fake nails grosses me out.
@Kyeh@werehatrack I know what you mean, i really don’t get that trend. It’s like having a disability by choice, i don’t understand how they get anything done with those monstrosities! Lol… I’m the same way with my hair. I have it just long enough to wear in a ponytail, cuz i can’t stand having it in my face & keeping it short requires too much maintenance. And, bonus, I can actually cut it myself, since a ponytail hides a lot of mistakes & it grows fast enough to help erase those, too!
@ircon96@werehatrack My sister goes the ponytail route, but I don’t really like the way I look with my hair pulled back, so I get it cut; only I’ve been putting it off so it’s currently driving me crazy. Grrr.
@Kyeh@werehatrack Yep, I’m a notorious procrastinator, so bad that even though i saw my sister/hair stylist every week, i somehow would let it grow out too much. But, think of it this way, with all that extra hair, you have a bigger canvas for color!
@Kyeh@tinamarie1974 I tried lots of things over the decade that they went from being useful as organic crowbars to being just slightly less brittle than Fritos. Nothing made any difference - and given that it takes over six months for mine to grow all the way out, a fair amount of patience went unrewarded in the process. Eventually I started using gel polish by itself, which sort of worked but tended to peel, and then I got a set of acrylics and haven’t looked back since.
I will note that I was still deep in denial back when I started with the gel polish; I used a shade that closely matched my natural nails so that nobody would snap unless they looked closely. It was worth the effort of reapplying the polish every week or two, just to keep from having them snap or tear while I was doing things.
@Kyeh@tinamarie1974@werehatrack
I’d never heard of “drinking” knox gelatin but I do know Biotin works great for most people’s hair and nails. Since growing my nails after being a lifelong biter and wearing artificial nails I had to find something for the peeling and splitting. Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat is what I used and LOVED for several years until they got strong on their own. Also, I was thrilled to finally discover Horsetail nail strengthener, works well and it’s much cheaper!
The other thing I noticed is how any kind of nail polish, cheap or expensive, regular or gel, goes on artificial nails SO MUCH nicer! When I’d polish my natural nails the polish was never smooth and flawless after it dried like it was with the fake nails. I can’t even tell you how much time and product I wasted redoing a fresh manicure! OMG, talk about frustrating…
I’ve got to agree, Like you guys mentioned above, those extra long coffin nails are totally useless, nevermind being ugly as sin! Seriously, how do you wipe your butt, tie your shoes, or remove an eyelash from your eye? You DON’T, and they’re ridiculous!
My hands are GREAT even though they haven’t been my favorite feature. I always wished I had those long ring fingers.️ Isn’t that typical, don’t we always want what we don’t have…
Dry skin has ALWAYS been a thing so moisturizer is my friend!
I came close to losing my right hand twice and even though those accidents left it partially paralyzed and without feeling, scared and painful, I’m extremely grateful to still have both of them!
I was a nail biter until I was 35. I remember trying to stop since I was around 4 years old. My grandma would buy me manicure kits for incentive and that nasty tasting nail biter polish, nothing worked. Oh jeez I almost forgot about the bandaids, we’d wrap my fingertips in bandaids! When I got older I’d even remove my artificial nails just to bite my own, it was awful!
At 35 years old when I finally quit it took over 10 years and a lot of patience to nurse them back to health so they’re not peeling and splitting. Today, at 59 years old, I’m pretty proud of my long manicured natural nails!

BTW…
I REALLY did try to keep it short!
I’m thinking @jcarb94 can relate though…
(i’m that boomer that gives you their life story when you ask how they are doing)
When you wrote that the other day I couldn’t help but think you’re NOT alone! Lol Kindred spirits…
@Lynnerizer my daughter has hand model type hands, but never cared about that shit. even though she’s chunkier than when she was a kid, her hands are still elegant.
i remember when she was in early college, it was difficult for her to buy rings because she wore like a 4. i was in Mexico and saw this ring i thought she would like and the smallest i could buy which i couldn’t get on my pinky was too big for her.
@Cerridwyn Oh wow… Size 4 is small! I’m into antique filagree and I have several pieces from the early 1900’s (the first set I got, a matching ring & necklace/pendant was my grandmothers) and I’ve only seen very small sizes when shopping for antique rings. I can only wear those rings on my pinky, I’ve never wanted to resize.
Yup, it’s true… We always want what we don’t have. AND… Things always seem brighter on the other side! Reminds me of a country song I liked back in the late 80’s! (couldn’t remember who sings it so no link ) And I wasn’t even a fan of country music. Lol
@pakopako Would you recognize the back of your hand? That phrase always struck me as stupid - “I know it like the back of my hand.” I don’t believe I’d be able to pick out my hand from a line-up of similar ones without some clear sort of clue.
@Kyeh@pakopako
That’s funny and I’d never really given it much thought. I would totally be able to pick my hands out of a lineup, especially these days with the blemishes and scars.
@pakopako@Kyeh@Lynnerizer Here’s something I don’t understand about skin:
For example, I have a couple of scars on my left hand where I was bitten by a dog when I was 12 (puncture wounds in the web of my thumb at the top and in the meat of the base on the bottom.) 55 years later, there is still scar tissue, but it can’t be the original scar tissue, so why does the body keep rebuilding scar tissue there on the long-healed wound instead of regular skin?
@Lynnerizer@macromeh@pakopako Good question. Also some people are more prone to scarring than others. Maybe someone in the medical field can tell us … @Cerridwyn? @chienfou? @cinoclav? (Huh, interesting, all those names start with “c.”)
@Cerridwyn@chienfou@Kyeh@Lynnerizer@macromeh@pakopako It’s likely internal scar tissue which doesn’t fade away like external scars do over time. The body isn’t rebuilding it, it just isn’t getting rid of it. Essentially the same reason you can get a tattoo and see it decades later. The outer layers will die off and be replaced but the inner layers are permanent.
Old
@Cerridwyn
Mine have a bad case of senioritis.
But I think @YakkoTDI has the hands of an 18 year old.
(Just the hands.)
@Cerridwyn @phendrick I have more than hands in inventory. We have a wide variety of styles to choose from.
Well, I didn’t fire off any fireworks tonight, so I still have two.
@toycardriver Good Job!
@mycya4me @toycardriver That’s probably cuz my redneck townie neighbors bought them all & went so overboard they scared my hard-of-hearing elderly dog half to death. That of someone who types for work, soft.
Some days I sorta miss when they were full of callouses from hard labor, but the feeling goes away when I compare pay-stubs.
How are my Hands… They are great & feeling!
@mycya4me feeling who?
@Cerridwyn Now would you not like to Know!!! hehehe I’m Not telling!
@mycya4me well you are a goat, what do goats feel?
/showme a goat feeling
@Cerridwyn well All Kind of stuff… I am not at Liberty to say!
Eh, they’ve seen better days, but also worse days, so I can’t complain too much.
Mostly sore because I crochet and knit. And when I’m not doing that I really waste time playing minesweeper on my phone, which doesn’t help.
@LaserEyes
Compression gloves might make them feel wonderful or at least help! Some come without tips so you can do everything while wearing them.
The hands are in better shape than the feet.[typo fixed]
@werehatrack You bat with your feet?? That’s some talent… Brava!
@ircon96 That was batter as in pancake or tempura
@werehatrack Same. Hands, a little weathered and scarred up but otherwise fine. Left foot however, not so much. An old injury from 31 years ago, while reasonably OK for many years, has come back to haunt me.
@werehatrack Battered feet? I’m glad i wasn’t having breakfast while reading that!
@ircon96 Given the stuff that some places use in a fancy pedicure, tempura batter would be pretty tame as long as the feet weren’t getting deep-fried in the bargain.
@werehatrack So true… What some people won’t slather on themselves in the name of beauty.
I’m going to be having surgery on my right hand and wrist soon. They hurt all the time and my fingers get stuck closed. It will be nice to have it fixed.
@Pony
Good luck! Hope it works and you get the relief you’re looking for!
I have man hands and I hate them.
@kittykat9180 I have child hands and most tools and utensils are just too big. Good for poking around with electrical stuff, though.
@kittykat9180 I hear ya! Maybe there’s a club we could join… We could form a softball team & save a lot of money on gloves.
@kittykat9180 How can you have Man’s hands if you are a Female? I guess they are softer than a Normal male! So they are a bit larger, So what!! That is what makes you Unique!

@kittykat9180 You must have done something, or had a hard job… Try Eucerin, Advance Repair. awesome stuff!
KRULL! A SKULL! BRETT HULL! AWESOME!
@mycya4me, yeah, I was born with my mother’s hands who was born with her father’s hands.
@kittykat9180 @mycya4me Obligatory:
@kittykat9180 wow how did you Mom give you here hands… hehehe I guess thought her genes!
My hands are okay but my fingernails are gruesomely teal-tinted from using rinse-in hair color.
@Kyeh Hopefully you don’t have any upcoming doctors appointments, they might think you’re cyanotic.
@ircon96 Hah! I can just point to my hair.
@Kyeh Good choice! Purple & teal is my favorite color combination.
@ircon96 @Kyeh
@Kyeh You could always apply a coat of clear pearl over the top and make it look entirely intentional.
@werehatrack It’s not evenly-colored enough to look good (plus I hate wearing nail polish.) I just need to use a little rubbing alcohol to clean them up but I won’t even bother with that unless I go somewhere.

It’s a shame in a way - I’ve always had strong nails that grow out easily but I don’t like to keep them long.
@tinamarie1974 @werehatrack I saw online that Biotin (vitamin B7) can help too.

Still have all 10 fingers, if that’s what you’re asking
I voted for can’t complain, but that’s not really true. I shouldn’t complain would be more accurate.
Skin is weird. The backs of my hands are smooth and silky. Unlike my palms which are full of wrinkles and soft cracks.
