horrible customer service. watch out
1I signed up for a membership, which is a monthly membership. I only wanted to do it for a month so I cancelled after signing up and paying. All of a sudden my membership benefits are gone. The rep says that its not actually for a month and the benefits are only good as long as the membership is active, despite having already paid for the month. No prorated refund, no membership. They essentially stole my money and the rep has made no attempt to help me. It’s not a lot of money, but this is very dishonest. I’ve never heard of a company cancelling your membership benefits despite having paid for them.

Hey, I’m sorry this is frustrating for you. We are always looking into how best to explain this clearly but there’s always room for improvement. I’m going to try here:
How our membership works - it’s $6 to join membership, and then you’re paying $6 a month. We have it set up so we bill you at the end of the month (so you’re paying for the month you just used). So if you join and cancel, your benefits end because you haven’t yet paid for a month.
But here’s the key thing: you joined when buying something (on Meh). You got free shipping on that order. That $6 you paid to join is the same amount you’d have paid to ship that thing. When you canceled your membership your cost is exactly the same as if you’d never joined in the first place and just placed a normal order.
To be transparent, one of the reasons we have the initial fee to join, rather than to pay for a month is because otherwise someone could join, get free shipping on their one order, and then cancel and expect to get all or almost all of their money back.
But again, I understand that may be different than what you expected, and I get that you’re frustrated. I hope I’m at least able to help explain why it works this way.
@dave It would be better and much less confusing if the fee paid for the following month and membership would run through the paid month that we cancel.
Seems like you’re just hoping people will do what the OP did or forget to cancel.
@callow I disagree. That wouldn’t make sense, it would just be free membership for a month every time you buy something. The point is you pay for shipping or you sign up cause you think you’ll buy more. If you don’t end up buying anything cancel then. The only way you know there’s nothing else you want to buy is if you’re checking every day so it’s not like you can forget about it.
And every time I’ve cancelled an existing membership without buying anything I believe that last month has automatically been refunded.
/showme horrible customer service
I’m sorry you had a bad experience. I’ve found Meh’s customer service to be fantastic any time I’ve had an issue with them.
I mean it’s hard to say they stole your money when you paid a penny more instead of paying for shipping. It’s a quirky policy to try to drive membership but that’s sort of the point - this is a quirky deal a day site built around checking daily and community boards.
I sign up and cancel pretty regularly and they do warn you that your benefits will end immediately - this isn’t how must memberships work but they’re not hiding they ball. It’s a little over the top and disingenuous to call that horrible customer service. Over the years I’ve had one or two order/product issues and the actual customer service has always been great.
I hate it when I try to game the system and then the people I’m trying to game don’t let me game the system.
To be Fair I wouldnt necessarily say they were trying to game the system. It might be better if customer service had a script to explain it, and could offer to put them back on the membership if they wanted. As long as they fully understand it. Then they could just cancel before the end of the next month if they don’t find anything else they want.
I wish I could do that with my Rent!
Yes, for me also. All the watches i’ve bought here were soon out.
