We had 18 family members, 3 generations, from 4 states meet up for the weekend, most originally grew up in Philly. We planned and booked this back in November, and Eagles gear was the uniform every day. We screamed for 4 hours, we hugged a lot, we bit nails, and in the end we popped a bottle of champagne.
@UncleVinny I think you’re expecting too much. Weep after losing in BS last second miracle plays to the Giants… twice? Maybe. Weep after losing a hard fought game against the Eagles who showed up to play and kept it competitive throughout? Absolutely not.
I’m a lifelong Eagles fan. This year was the worst.
I lost my dad in February, my best friend in December. I’ve cried more in the last twelve months than I ever have in the 47 years before.
My dad introduced me to the Eagles. He and I didn’t always see eye to eye, but we could talk in the garage and listen to Phillies baseball and talk about Buddy Ryan and the Eagles.
He was there with me during this game, despite the celestial impasse. And my friend Glenn was there too, despite everything. Even my wife, who loves me and hates football, stayed near me at the end, rolling her eyes but rooting for me.
We shouldn’t have gotten this far. The Patriots are a legitimately great team. We have a backup QB. The Patriots played magnificently tonight- it was like watching All-Madden video game football run by Deep Blue. And yet, we won.
I’m so happy tonight, not just because we won, but because I shared it with my sister, and the memory of my lost loved ones, and my wife, and all of us Philly fans who bring their own memories to the game.
@wishlish your Eagles won for the same reason so many others lost to the Patriots. They showed up to play 60 minutes of football and it paid off. I would imagine the same holds true for the other games this season you didn’t feel your team deserved to win. Too many teams stop playing 30, 45, 55, 59 minutes into the game and lose for that reason. Your team came to play, went toe to toe with the Patriots, and kept that level of competition throughout. They deserve every bit of this victory.
@wishlish - I’m from Dallas and a Cowboys fan and the ‘Boys’ and Eagles don’t always see eye to eye.
Yet I congratulate you and the Eagles for hanging in there all year and for the ‘BIG’ win. Tough year for both you and the Eagles. Congrats my friend. Well deserved!
My flight back landed in Newark around 8:30. By the time we got through baggage, customs, etc. and drove back to my buddy’s, it was around 11 pm. I managed to not read or hear the score and watched it DVR’ed. I’ve waited a long time for my team to officially have this title of Super Bowl Champions! Go Birds!!

@Ignorant that GIF is pretty creepy.
Congrats to the Eagles on their first Super Bowl win!
They played a hell of a game.
Yippee!

Hey Philly! Great game!
Ooooooo…the nice thread!
Fly, Eagles, Fly - Congrats!!! Enjoy your 1st!
Can we get a giphy of weeping Patriots fans?

Congrats on the fourth championship.

@wishlish
Tough year.
We all need a bit of sunshine.
Glad your city got the win. Glad your close ones came together for this moment.
From what I’m reading, based on your team spirit and coaching, I predict a lot of FB success for Philly in years to come.

I should say that the Eagles definitively hit them low, and unequivocally hit them high, as well. Fly Eagles Fly!
Damn, that was a great game!
Fly, Eagles, fly.

@cinoclav they earned it, congratulations!
WOOHOOO!!! What a game! I was having heart palpitations right up until the very end! Fly Eagles Fly!
I found it fascinating that both teams thought that playing no defense would be a viable strategy.
@ekw It worked for one of them.
I know that feeling… First Super Bowl win. When Seahawks grabbed it Seattle was a party town for days.
