Hey @hollboll and @chadp - my daughter made a thing!
31For my aspiring-writer daughter, I procured the December writers' box which among other things (coffee for me, yay!) included an awesome white pen and some quality black paper. She "rediscovered" these last night and whipped this up:
Apologies for the crappy cellphone pic -- but I think it gets the gist. She commented that drawing this, with that pen on that paper, was, and I quote, "One of the most satisfying things ever. Ugh!"

That's awesome, I love the owl! Thanks for sharing @ACraigL, that totally made my morning.
That is awesome. Gorgeous. Brilliant.
She is way tooooooo smart and puts the rest of us at risk of imminent humiliation and/or obsolescence.
Can you start her on a path of wasted talents and mediocrity (heh, heh, mediocre) so that the rest of us can continue onward in emperor-has-no-clothes mode?
@f00l Believe me, no one is more shamed and awed than I. She's 16 and has been published a few times now, wrote a winning monologue that was performed by the young philly playwrights association and attended a pre-college creative writing program at Emerson last summer.
And in typical over-achiever fashion, she's going to a similar program at Brown this summer.
And thank goodness she's clearly destined for success, because I'll really need someone to support me when I get older.
@ACraigL that's awesome!
@ACraigL
Tell her to forget about you. I need supporting, you can wait. And i will feel enhanced by association with her genius.
Dont be selfish, now.
@ACraigL Award-winning writer, obviously a talented artist, super smart and only 16...the world better watch out!
I was worried where this would be going when you said your daughter made a thing... But it looks awesome! (My wife made a thing lastnight... I don't know what to call it... she tried making cake from cookie mix... it wasn't good.
I have an owl pocketbook. I didn't know I liked owls until I saw it and had to have it.
You guys are so supportive, thanks! Here's one of her published works:

@ACraigL that was awesome.
@carl669 Thanks for taking the time to check it out! She was 15 when she wrote this.
@ACraigL if i could write even 10% as eloquently, i probably wouldn't have to say "fuck" nearly as much.
@carl669
You have a certain pithy, economic elegance and eloquence of your own. Don't change.
She's ready to for most marketing depts.
She never ceases to amaze me. You are one great dad, ACL.
@cwolfpack3 Aw, shucks ma'am
