What's more douchey: 1. taking your phone out and staring at it every few minutes or seconds 2. occasional discreet glance at watch
What's more convenient while working out: 1. digging for your phone with your hand to measure progress or change a song 2. glancing at the thing on your wrist to see progress, and potentially using it to skip a song
Yeah, I wear a watch. And I will probably get an Apple watch.
And I don't have to be a geezer to be disgusted with the narcissistic insecurity of a large number of people today. That shit on your phone isn't that important. It can wait. Put the phone back in your pocket and engage.
@Headly You forgot: Leave phone on table, make an extravagant gesture that happens to wake up the screen to show the time. And while working out, the first person to get to the sound system and plug in their ipod or phone sets the playlist, and the rest of us endure it. Most mornings it's some sort of metal-something with people screaming hoarsely about death and violence, but oddly enough a few weeks ago, we were treated to the entire Taylor Swift 1989 album. This is a bare bones weighlifting/strongman gym. My friend and I are the only girls. Even we were a little creeped out trying to figure out which of the dudes lifting hundreds of pounds and slamming it down was a Swiftie.
@Headly I too wear a watch and I feel a little naked when I forget it. It's much faster for me to glance at my watch while at work, in particular when I have a timed study. Not to mention, patients tend to look at me like they're not my priority when I pull out my phone. I bought this one last year and love it. A classier G-Shock with a stainless band that even looks good when dressed up. It's solar powered and automatically syncs to the atomic clock every night for spot on timekeeping. While I generally prefer the classic look of an analog face, it's much faster to look at the digital readout and it helps having the timer options. http://www.amazon.com/Casio-MTGM900DA-8-G-Shock-Stainless-Digital/dp/B0094BKASS/ref=sr_1_30?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1426696287&sr=1-30
@cinoclav I like analog. My only complaint about this one is the phosphors only last about 3 hours. This one has an automatic mechanism to charge a battery that drives the quartz mechanism. The benefits of an automatic with the accuracy of quartz.
@Headly That's very similar to my Tag, which I totally wish had the Kinetic mechanism. I don't wear it much anymore, I'm pretty content wearing my cheaper watches. I think with age I have less of a need to impress anyone with an expensive watch.
@cinoclav Yeah, I honestly don't care what anyone thinks wither. Even if I had a million in the bank I don't think I would spend more than a few hundred on a watch. This Seiko was something like $275 if I remember correctly.
I have a sort-of "nice" Seiko I like a lot, which can be worn with a suit without looking weird. But in every other way, my $70 Casio G-Shock Mudman is probably a superior timepiece. It does look weird with a suit. But what a value!
Like @matthew , I wear a watch every day. Like @cinoclav , I feel amiss when I leave the house without it. Also, I frequently leave my phone at home. On purpose. True story.
I have what I guess you could call a "collection" of watches. Currently I own nine. Most are relatively inexpensive. All but one are analogue. Most are chronographs. It's like functional jewelery for me I guess. This is my current favorite: A Reactor Neutron retrograde chronograph:
If Glen worn an Apple watch, how could he see what time it was?
DON'T YOU DARE TELL HIM!
This is deep.
I think I'll pray for all of us.
That took a sad turn at the end.
when will glen become self-aware? Before or after Skynet?
Glen: "What watch? This is my WWE Championship belt!!"

@caffeine_dude
@matthew wearing a watch would be like Glen getting a colonoscopy with a cheese grater.

With everyone having a clock on their phone nowadays it's becoming increasingly difficult to use my age-old burn:
"Hey, what time is it?"
"Time to buy a watch."
Shame, really.
@jsh139 Guess you're going to have to default to the classic, "Is your refrigerator running?"
@cinoclav Looks like it!

@ruouttaurmind Nice looking watch. Though I'd have to pull out my glasses every time I wanted to use the chronometer.
This video was amazing! Soooo good. Goddamn you guys are clever.
