Dimensions or volume might be relevant facts people might want to know? Yunno, if you’re buying a bag? For more than zero dollars?
The two duffels that link out to BH are 19x8x5, which seems … I don’t have a gym bag in front of me, but that seems pretty gymbaggy.
Can’t find specs on the Technical, but the shoe garage appears to dominate the volume, which tells us it’s also in gym bag range. And the sling is 14x5x8, IIRC.
@whogots I’m so confused by the Technical. Why would the only access to the largest, middle compartment only be gained through a small hole in the side??
So, this is basically identical to my Overwatch branded duffle bag I bought at blizzcon 2017 or so. I LOVE that duffle bag. Aside from the chintzy hardware with the shoulder strap, it is an Excellent bag. Perfect size for a weekend trip.
As the (proud?) owner of multiple pieces of luggage (be it: suitcases – soft or hard-sided, duffel bags, sling bags, satchels, backpacks – external or internal frame, gym bags, daypacks, messenger bags, or whatever) I think I’ll pass.
I’m pretty well covered for anything from a one day to a 6 month trip.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
One of my favorites is still the bag I got from here years ago which is my go-to carry-on backpack for extended trips.
@chienfou Please share the goods on the lights. My first thought was it’d be a genius way to find your bag from afar on the carousel (my MIL taught me to tie ribbons on the handles for this purpose), but that’s not it since it’s obviously on your carry-on. Next idea, is that it’s so your loved ones can keep track of you more easily while walking through the crowded terminal (like when families wear t-shirts of the same neon color at amusement parks). Or… is it just decorative for the holidays? Or something else entirely??
@jester747
Eventually you nailed it. I was traveling ON Christmas day.
It was my attempt to bring a little holiday spirit to the people who had to work and allow me to be able to do so. I also brought bags of chocolate which I passed out to a couple of dozen people that were either staffing gates/planes or working maintenance/ housekeeping kind of jobs as well as some of the restaurant workers (TSA doesn’t like to accept gifts). Brought a smile to a few faces…
As for the “how”, it was AA battery operated cheap set of string lights from Dollartree. Don’t think these would hold up if you put them on your luggage since they’ll probably get caught up in the conveyor system. I wouldn’t recommend that!
As far as recognizing your luggage. Both mine and my wife chose pretty unique colors/styles and hers is covered with travel stickers (and an orange/peach color) so easy to spot.
@chienfou Hey, I have that one, too! I still use it quite a bit. Here’s a pic from when I took it on a literal treasure hunt trip.
It was a 2024 hunt put on by the security camera company Wyze, and the clues led to Whitefish, MT which is a ~13-hour train ride from where I live. I packed my bag and hopped on the train before I actually knew 100% it was Whitefish, but I did get confirmation an hour or two after I was underway. Sadly, someone else got there before me and found the treasure shortly after they released some additional unscheduled clues, while I was still on the train. Womp-womp.
@Kyeh
Yep… BTDT …multiple times. Working seven on/7 off meant I was at work 50% of the Christmases. The nice thing was I knew well in advance whether I was going to have to be at work or not…
@The_Tim
That’s an awesome story, but bummer about the wash out at the end. It’s always disappointing to me when they shift the goal at the end like that.
I must say your bag looks like it’s in much better shape than mine though!
@The_Tim
BTW judging by that big black box with the white K next to your name I’m going out on a limb and guessing that you probably bought yours at the same time I bought mine… from THIS site! Still one of my top five favorite purchases.
@chienfou Yup, got it here for $19 from the sale on April 7, 2019. Good price for a good bag!
Hah, I just pulled up the discussion thread from that sale and my comment is the first highlighted one. And I see your “in for one” comment in there too.
@chienfou And yes, the ending of that hunt was definitely a bit frustrating. They had an announced schedule for releasing clues, one each day, and they dropped a clue just after I got on the train, which should have meant no new information for 24 hours.
A number of people were on their way to Whitefish, but nobody knew exactly where to look yet. Then suddenly with no announcement they posted a zoomed-out photo of the treasure location, which gave enough additional info that someone was able to zero in on it within an hour or two.
I still think if they hadn’t dropped any extra info I would have had a pretty good chance of being the first to find it once I got there in the morning. Oh well!
At least it resolved in time for me to hop off the train in Spokane and catch the once-a-day train in the opposite direction a couple hours later, instead of going all the way to Whitefish.
@The_Tim
Yep, and if you read on a little further down the discussion thread you’ll see my review… then a few more posts down the first picture of it (at the airport in Paris)!
There was just something about the design and quality that really appealed to me. Plus I love the Dopp history.
@chienfou@The_Tim Getting to Whitefish (from either direction) is spectacular. Worth the trip even if you don’t score the loot.
On the East side of the park, the big lodge (good place for breakfast we found) was originally built as part of encouraging rail travel to the area, mostly for people from the “midwest;” Never figured out why “Midwest” is in the eastern 1/3 of the country.
On the other side in Whitefish there is a well-known brewery, and also I found a coffee place that had really good espresso. I asked for a pound of beans and they mixed it up fresh from 2 different roasts. They said to make the best espresso you want 2 different kinds of beans to add depth and complexity. Kind of like some of the winemakers do on casemates (grapes, not beans….) Over the years I learned that good espresso is not just strong coffee.
@pmarin Oh yeah, I’ve been to Whitefish before and I love it. That’s a big part of why I was so ready to jump on the train even before I was 100% sure that’s where the treasure was.
But sadly once the treasure was found, I couldn’t justify the additional cost and time of going all the way there when turning around in Spokane was a viable option. Hopefully I’ll get to go back someday.
@chienfou And my comments/reviews are in that old thread as well. It was a wonderful bag, but “was” is the operative word for mine. Eventually the fabric wore out after many years of daily slinging it over my shoulder. It lasted a very good long time after I replaced the swivel clips, and I still haven’t emptied it all the way out. Sentimental I guess.
@Jonas4321
As I approach my 7th decade (starting this summer) I hear you. My hip replacement is a testament to that!
Seriously though, I appreciate having things with a bit of style that are also useful and well crafted.

@yakkoTDI And you’ll turn right back around??

@SnDMommy @whogots I think that compartment is for the cat.
@SnDMommy @whogots There’s another zipper on the side for accessing the inner compartment.
@shanesny Ohhhh that makes WAY more sense now, thank you!
Thank you (@troy?) for adding the dimensions, but that wasn’t done for the one bag out of all of them that I’m interested in.
where’s the Master Chief?
The Aspect can be had in a different color for $22. And they have the list price as $30. This does not seem like much of a deal.
@ponagathos Buy it for $22 (on clearance) in that other color if you wish! The list price on the Aspect Duffel is $59.95
>3 products to choose from
>posts 4 products
@dvermilion 3 duffels to choose from. The 4th is a sling bag
@dvermilion @troy Oh don’t try to get technical on us. And it seems the technical bag is a real “bag” and not the sling? … I am sooo confused.
Was tempted to get the larger UNSC one but for $50 seems I should be getting some extra loot.
So, this is basically identical to my Overwatch branded duffle bag I bought at blizzcon 2017 or so. I LOVE that duffle bag. Aside from the chintzy hardware with the shoulder strap, it is an Excellent bag. Perfect size for a weekend trip.
@tedknaz OK so a maybe then? Which model?
@tedknaz Cool, Blizzcon. The closest I ever got to that is Virtual… Wow-head since 2008, still going…
Some folks call it a Sling Bag, I call it a fanny pack.

@FightingMongoos Mmmm-mmmmm.
What makes a bag of this sort so expensive?
I’d rather go ugly army surplus for longevity and take on “low fashion” knowing the thing will last me 30 years
@audiocontr you can also get a heavy durable bag from Filson but it will cost $200-$600.
Tom is a straight shooter

@jester747 @chienfou I bet that as an ER nurse you know all about working on Christmas!
I love Tim’s cool trowel.

Sorry for you loss! There’s just something about the aesthetic of that bag that really appeals to me…
@chienfou at my age, a great many things in my life have been enjoyed and have worn out. I am glad for the period of enjoyment of them all.
@Jonas4321

@chienfou we’re on the same page in two additional areas it seems.
The pic on the email made me laugh. That was a good one. Great movie.
Anyone have the dimensions of the technical duffel? Difficult to find online for some reason.
@hedgehogfrenzy Maybe before it shows up on SideDeal or MorningSave, someone at Mercatalyst will take one out of the box/bag and measure it.
Can’t get enough of that wonderful Duff.
@UncleVinny
