Here comes a Mehrathon... ... ... ?

I hope this clears things up…

/8ball How about now?

/8ball Report, Trooper!
Yes definitely
Oh I HOPE so!!! Oh how I have missed Mehrathons!!!
/giphy captain obvious
Aren’t Mehrathons traditionally held on April 1?
@heartny Or they could really fool you by not having one.
@rockblossom Or they could fool us and have it on a non-traditional day.
@heartny @rockblossom Or they could make us wait even more. I just hope that the IRKS are worth it when they finally have another one, either ossim or super-regrettable. (The latter would be seventeen pounds of already-dead spare batteries for TrackR Pixels, in individual blister packs. As just one example. You can supply your own. Rattlemugs?)
What’s this “Meh-rathon” you speak of?? I vaguely recall hearing of them a long, LONG time ago but I seem to have forgotten about them. Is this where that funny sock puppet called “IRK” plays Hide-and-Seek? If so, sign me up!! It’s been months since I’ve seen that narly dude. Hope he wasn’t in the slammer or something hideous happened to him.
Shhhhh, don’t tell anyone until after we score our IRKs.
I just spent a metric boatload* of money on tooth stuff. I don’t need to be spending more money on stuff…oh, wait, it’s a Mehrathon…never mind.
*Official measurement. Metric because a majority of the staff at my dentist’s office are immigrants from places which use a reasonable system of measurements.
@gt0163c
I feel your pain.
I just had to shell out $$$$ to my kids because they each lost a tooth. Back in my day we got $5 a tooth, now the going rate is $10.
@gt0163c @robthedude05 in the late '50s/early '60s, it was a quarter.
@gt0163c @werehatrack
Inflations a mutha.
@robthedude05 @werehatrack I was born in 1975. I only got a quarter for my teeth…until I broke one off as an adult (after a long history of issues that started with getting hit in the face by a flying dog dish when I was a kid) and a friend acting as the tooth fairy sent me a book off my Amazon wishlist. My parents were cheap.
@gt0163c I can empathize, too. I can’t wait to get the estimate for my dog’s dental cleaning. After the blood work, x-rays, anesthesia, extraction(s), removal of the lump on her leg with biopsy, various fees like waste disposal, OR supplies, vet’s summer house renovation surcharge, etc, I’m gonna need to find a mortgage lender. And i don’t even want to think about what my OWN issues are gonna cost to fix, that’ll probably be a whole new cottage in the Hamptons for that lucky dentist!
@gt0163c @robthedude05 @werehatrack Oh, and PS - I’m from around the same vintage as you & my parents were just about as cheap. I don’t remember exactly how much they left, but i definitely remember coins rather than paper!
@gt0163c @robthedude05 @werehatrack born in the 70s, losing teeth in the 80s, teeth were still a quarter each. In a special little pillow my mom made that had cross-stitched stuff on it and a little pocket that had a tooth in it when I went to bed and a quarter when I got up.
@gt0163c we just started at a new dentist.
I got
A referral for my youngest for pre braces exam because she’ll need them
A referral for real braces for my middle child
a referral for oral surgery to get my oldest’s wisdom teeth removed plus she has FIVE cavities. (She had braces already)
and i need two fillings from my childhood removed and refilled because my metal fillings are starting to fail.
My husband has yet to have his appointment.
For the record, we lived in an area that does not add flouride to the water and then moved to our farm with water run through an RO system. So tge cavities, although disappointing, are not super surprising.
@gt0163c @ircon96 I took my dog to the vet to see about getting her teeth cleaned, and just for that it was about $500, not including extractions. I’m trying to find something cheaper. That’s absurd!
Hope your fur baby does well!
@ircon96 @Tadlem43 I had a cat who had tooth problems. Cost $700 for cleaning and extractions when it was all over. And then his kidneys started failing. Pets are expensive (even the ones you get from the rescues) but I still think they’re worth it.
@gt0163c @ircon96 @Tadlem43
I haven’t been to the dentist in two years (got busy and been and need to find a new one since I moved that covered). You guys are not making me feel hopeful. But last time I wasn’t there in two years bc of my stroke I was fine. I do know I need a filling replaced though.
@djslack That is SO cute! Moms are the best.
@mbersiam Oof! Good luck with all that!
@Tadlem43 Amen to the absurd cost, unfortunately, when there’s anesthesia involved, it’s treated as surgery, even without extractions or any extra procedures, so it’s always gonna be pricey. Especially when your vet is the founder of a very prominent, well-regarded & ever-expanding rural practice where there’s not much competition, which is my situation. I feel like I’ve paid for a good chunk of those expansions over the years & I’ve been relatively lucky with the health of my fur babies! (Knock wood! I’d hate to have a high- maintenance patient on my hands.)
@gt0163c Sorry to hear about what happened with your cat. That’s one big reason why I’ve been dragging my feet over this whole thing, I’m always afraid of what could happen with anesthesia, especially in an old girl like my baby. She still acts like a puppy at times, but she’s getting up there, we estimate her to be about 14, so it’s hard to think about. But i agree, they’re totally worth it, the little buggers!
@Star2236 Here’s hoping it’ll just be the filling!
@gt0163c @ircon96 @Tadlem43 When I adopted my dog Raven, her front teeth were worn down to the gums (no idea why). Last year, they started looking inflamed, so I took her to the vet. He removed the bottom two canines and the four front teeth on top and bottom. The whole thing cost me under $400. She just had surgery to remove a large lump on her side and have it biopsied. That needed general anesthesia too, but it still was only $675. There’s a lot of competition in my area, so maybe that helps.
This vet is so much better than the first one I went to. That one managed to find something to treat on every visit, and he way overcharged. Raven got into a little fight with another dog, and the scrape on her head looked like it was getting infected. For him to shave the area and treat the wound (no stitches) cost me $1500! The last straw was when he diagnosed Raven with a heart murmur using an X-ray. I’m no vet, but I know that you hear a heart murmur, you don’t see it.
@gt0163c @ircon96 @lisagd Vets and dentists are WAY too high for what they do, but they provide needed services so we’re over a barrel.
Lisa, where are you? I’m in Dallas and can’t find a reasonable place just to get my dog’s teeth cleaned!
@gt0163c @robthedude05 @werehatrack Early '50s, it was a dime.
@gt0163c @lisagd @Tadlem43 The pricing of your previous vet & their eagerness to find issues to treat sounds familiar, but good for you for finding a more reasonable one! You would think there would be some standard pricing range for common procedures, but they’re all over the place! Thankfully, I haven’t had occasion to question my vets’ competence, but i feel they tend to recommend unnecessary extras, even when I’ve made them aware of my financial situation, being on a limited fixed income & needing to budget these kinds of expenses carefully. I looked up the tiny bottle of Meloxidyl they sold me during our last visit for almost $49 & found the same exact product is $33 LESS online! That’s totally uncalled for & is the sort of thing that lessens my trust in them, especially since they make you feel like a turd if you ask for a written Rx. They often have the same attitude if you dare decline optional services. Ugh.
@Tadlem43 I’m in Fort Worth. Not sure if the prices are any better on this side of the Metroplex. I take my cats to The Parc. It’s definitely not a cheap vet. But they have evening and Saturday hours and are open 24 hours for emergencies or if you just need to pick up meds or something.
@gt0163c @pooflady @robthedude05 @werehatrack Yeah, but we had to walk to school uphill both ways.
@gt0163c @ircon96 @Tadlem43 Unfortunately for you, I’m in the Baltimore/Washington area.
@lisagd Bummer, i could use a good referral. My late sister’s vet was always very reasonable & doesn’t push unnecessary stuff, etc, but isn’t taking new patients, unfortunately. Obviously word got out that he’s what every pet parent dreams of!
@gt0163c @ircon96 @lisagd Thanks, anyway. Glad you have a decently priced vet!
@gt0163c That’s a bit too far from me, but looks like a good, caring vet!
I stayed up for this?
@medz Apparently
@medz I didn’t. If there’s a 'thon, oh well. I no longer have the ability to maintain the enthusiasm for the potential “surprise”.
@werehatrack they say that happens to everyone at a certain age.
/giphy floppy
The marathon part is in the worrying, discussing, waiting for this supposed event. Meh.
On a side note, I keep waiting for Jan to show us her Toyota thong.
@phendrick Here you go. Jan’s Toyota Thong.
@mike808 @phendrick That is disturbing on so many levels.
@gt0163c @mike808
One being how sooty the private parts underneath are?
@mike808 @phendrick On the plus side, the fringe/ruffles might act like tufts on aerodynamic models and allow visualization of the flow field around the vehicle.
@gt0163c @phendrick
I see you’re a fan of Leslie Claret’s The Structural Dynamics of Flow. I would notice that Donnelly nut spacing anywhere. The giveaway was the girdle-jerries with flex tandems, wasn’t it?
Maybe the foolish event they were referring to was the Woot Off today. Definitely foolish, as it just doesn’t compare to the absolute Mehness of a Mehrathon
I see in your eyes the same hope that would lift the heart of me. A day may come when the drought of Mehrathons fails, when we forsake our sleep and break our nails to click and tap to IRK success, but it is not this day. Today, we click Meh!
@werehatrack MEH!!!
It’s almost time!!!
