Help cheer me up (happy thread)
13Without getting two deep into it, I have been rocked by two tragedies in the last 24 hours. I am currently at a friend’s house because a fire has forced me out of my home. Add to that the mass shooting that happened about 15 miles from me, that impacted both my personal and professional lives and you can imagine I am one sad fella. So, I have a request; post things that make you happy. No need for apologies or to bring politics into the mix, just genuine happy thoughts.

Here you go. It’s a sunset from a few evenings ago, and it’s truly beautiful.
@Shrdlu nice!
Puppies usually make me smile, even when I don’t want to.
@Thumperchick love puppies!
Okay, how about some helpful kittens.
@Shrdlu adorable!
Would a warm hug from a big fuzzy wolf help?
@PooltoyWolf um…maybe??
@ConAndLibrarian I hope so
My assistant manager’s granddaughter wrote me a note Wednesday night. It said:
Me and L— [her friend] love you. L— is a poopy face.
@msklzannie that’s hilarious.
@ConAndLibrarian Yeah, I literally LOLed when I read that 2nd sentence. To be fair, L— had been going about saying “poopy head” repeatedly. 12-year-olds. /rolls eyes
I kept the note. It made my night. I’ve known the writer all her life (held her in the hospital when she was only 8 hours old).
@speediedelivery so pretty
Summer love.
@speediedelivery aww
It is a new day a new sunrise.
@CaptAmehrican I need to go hang out by some water

For some reason lake docks have always brought me a sense of peace.
@mfladd it’s beautiful
Supermoon setting.
@lisaviolet so cool!
Always works as a pick me up as obnoxiously popular as it was for a while
@CaptAmehrican it’s a great tune!
@CaptAmehrican @ConAndLibrarian Not so strangely enough, Weird Al’s parody does a more uplifting job for me.
This works for me right now.
@OldCatLady cool!
All animals make me happy, but T&Z’s smiles win the day.
@moondrake adorable
Photographer turns kids with disabilities, diseases into Justice League Superheroes
@moondrake I really love this
In spite of everything, you do not have to ear vegemite.
@cranky1950 well, I guess there is a silver lining in this!
One of the places I go for a pickup/distraction is:
A friend made a movie poster of my cat–there was a moth on the ceiling. Blocked out our names on it–but please enjoy this silliness:
My first attempt did not get a response, so allow me to try again. I always love a great episode of Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, so here’s the best eliminations of season 1!

Hope things are better soon. Be safe

Hey. You aren’t alone.
And we know that you and your community can find unexpected qualities in yourselves at this time.
Don’t be silent. Tell us about it as you go forward.
@f00l thank you all for posting, this thread has helped. I am happy to report that the evacuation order was lifted last night. I did not go right away because cell phone service there is spotty and cable and internet service was down countywide for 1.5 days. I’m packong up right now and heading home.
It is going to be a rough day at work come Tuesday. The campus lost a current student and a few alumni at Borderline and I am sure many students and staff have lost homes in the fires. At the least, I’m sure there will be many still not in their homes. Our kindness will certainly go a long way in the coming weeks.
Thank you all again for posting and keeping Southern California in your thoughts.
@ConAndLibrarian I’m very grateful that you reported back. I wanted to hear that you were safe; there’s been enough sadness to go around.
Make me happy. Live long, and love those around you.
Hang in there.
@lordbowen hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Glad you can head home. Let us know if your, your friends or family were wiped out by this and need anything. This list has helped others and I am sure there are people who will help in this instance too if it is needed.
Just a bit of an update:
On Monday, a university about ten miles away (my alma mater) sent out a mass email, asking us to shelter in place if we were on campus. Apparently, there was a possible bomb threat in the apartments next to campus. The shelter in place call was lifted about 30 minutes later. Yesterday, the fires flared up again and the campus I live on was put on alert. The campus decided to cancel classes until after Thanksgiving. I spent most of last night worrying about being evacuated again.
I woke up this morning to see that they made tremendous progress on the fire and things are looking great. All of my important belongings are currently in my truck, in the event I was not able to go home. It looks like I am not going to have to worry about that so much anymore Finally, things are finally looking up.
Today was the first funeral of the Borderline victims, I expect them to go on for at least the next week. Sgt. Helus’ funeral is tomorrow, if anyone would like to watch it, you can click here.
Lastly, just to show how close the fire was to me last night, a reporter for our local paper took this amazing picture. I live about a three minute walk from where the picture was taken.
@ConAndLibrarian Glad things are on the upswing for you now.
Well, now that things have calmed down a bit, we are working on recovery. If you would like to help, you can click here. Mods, I totally understand if the link gets removed.
As for me, I took the day off today as everything from the last week and a half hit me hard yesterday. Had a long chat with my doctor, and after a few prescriptions given to me, things are getting better.
