Hello, Friend!
24It is 2 AM. Time for me to sing you the song of my people!
This one is called “I’ve decided my battery is low, even though I run on AC power. You need to get up and get the ladder and fix it now if you want any sleep. I hope you have a 9 volt battery!” It’s an oldie, but a goodie.
If you know the words, by all means, sing along!

Any Fire alarm or child that make noise at 2 am should be dealt with in the same manner.
Soft strikes with a baseball bat until quiet.
@meh427 i would think a cup of water, handed to the kid, poured on the other until sparks fly, works too.
The combo smoke/CO detector right out side the bedroom gets extremely upset if you take the battery out and don’t put in a new one right away. Instead of the low battery chip every 2mins it does a series of beeps every 30 seconds. It would also not accept me putting the near dead battery back in.
Maybe I should replace the batteries proactively to avoid having to hunt for fresh ones in the middle of the night again.
Yeah, but then who’s REALLY in charge?
I think your smoke alarm is running fast. The traditional time to change the batteries is when Daylight Saving Time ends.
@sligett Thanks for the reminder to get batteries! I do this every year and write the date on the battery so I know which time change I did.
Maybe they should smoke detectors Qi charger compatible.
There was a time when my dad found a smoke alarm chirping away inside a closed washing machine. My mom worked nights, it decided to go off in the middle of her sleep and she didn’t have a battery.
I’ve heard that song coming from a neighboring hotel room after arriving late.
Sooo… are you a Nathan For You fan?
That happened to our house a few weeks ago. But we were in Montana and the house sitters had to deal with it. I told them where the ladder and batteries were. When they finally got the battery swapped out, the noise didn’t stop. So they had to get on the phone with First Alert tech support and were told that the detector is faulty and had to disconnect it from the AC. So I put it back up still not connected to the AC and with no battery. If I die in a house fire only the people here will know why.
Mmmm… mine always does this at 3:30am on a school night. Too early to get up, too late to get back to sleep. Boo.
Fire alarms are assholes. That’s what happens when you give a robot job security.
I once unplugged one of mine from battery and power for a month or two, just to teach it a lesson. Hasn’t been acting up since.
