@spitfire6006006 last gift was delivered Aug 16. I usually grab gifts as I see them. I have the next two years of gifts for my mom already set. It’s probably just as bad as waiting until the last minute, but it’s got the perk of feeling smugly superior to the procrastinators.
I am mostly done, as in past years a lot of it comes from meh as that saves me a ton of money. Almost all of what I buy here isn’t for me. It is birthday and christmas presents. Even with some of the irks I have gotten stuff that would work for presents for some family members . I got a new throw that was red and brown (colors I wouldn’t have chosen) and those colors match someone’s couch. That person will be happy as they like throws.
I bought things like the Monster screen spray cleaners - bought a bunch of those at $1/each. Can’t beat that and they will never know how cheap they were since they are a brand name. Even some of the individually wrapped masks will be given out as presents. While most of the family has cloth ones, these would work well in an emergency and being individually wrapped are easy to carry as a spare.
My kids are pretty much done, my nieces are done, half my sister in laws are done and I still need to figure out exactly what to get our parents. I’m still trying to swing a trip to Disney World next year for my mom, but this pandemic is making things a little complicated. Her health is not good, so I don’t want to wait TOO long but fireworks are her favorite thing in the whole wide world, so I want to wait until at least those are back. I’m thinking November of next year? But then do you get someone a Christmas present this year they can’t use until almost christmas next year?
@kewlchick086 the plan was to get her a few shirts. My mom never got to visit DW when we were growing up due to costs and living in the Midwest. She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s a few months ago. She can get around now but who knows for how long. 2020 sucks.
waiting for black friday sales. and i have to start making the list of what all i even intend to buy. (i usually draw a little diagram so i can imagine how it will all look under the tree, to make sure i didn’t get too much or too little.) my partner is getting difficult to buy for as the years go on because he always says he can’t think of anything and he has everything he needs, and i’ve used up many of my good ideas (i’m the opposite - easy to buy for because i always have a huge list with lots to pick from. definitely can’t relate to “not wanting anything” )
@jerk_nugget My wife and I have a hard time thinking of suggestions of what the other can get them. We have both accumulated so much stuff that, at this point, pretty much any item we may want is so specific that someone else can’t really pick it out/buy it, no matter how well the giver knows the receiver.
The last few years, I have bought myself things I come across that strike my fancy and consider them my gifts. Works for me.
two of my main buys are vinyl toys (also called “urban vinyl” or “art toys”) and indie fragrance (wax, perfume, bath stuff) and the problem with both of those is that they’re often extremely limited release, so it would be futile to put it on a wishlist because whatever it was would be long gone by the time anyone bought it for a gift giving occasion.
in the same vein, my partner is big into gaming, and obviously you want to play the game when it comes out and everyone is playing (especially if you want to avoid spoilers or play with friends) so it doesn’t fare well on a wishlist either, so we definitely both just get what we want throughout the year.
@Kyeh BPAL was actually the first indie fragrance house i bought from, and i spent quite a lot of money on quite a lot of samples and ended up hating everything and not buying fragrance from anyone for the next two years lol.
however, in the years since, i’ve learned that when it comes to perfume oil, skin chemistry plays a big role. my skin chem just doesn’t get along with BPAL’s scents 99% of the time and that’s okay. (i actually do have one scent from them that i bought because i wanted to support the collaboration and fundraiser and ended up loving, but it’s a needle in a haystack type thing.) BPAL has a devoted following and a huge catalog for a reason, but they just aren’t for me most of the time
@Limewater yeah, he has tons of games and definitely will get back into old ones too! it’s just, when you feel like playing something (or, if your friend discovers a game and invites you to play), you don’t want to wait around for 2-5 months to see if maybe someone will get it for you haha. so not a great wishlist item, unless a release coincides with his birthday or xmas. (which happens sometimes!)
ETA: and i was mostly thinking of BRs when i wrote that, in terms of it being harder to get lobbies for “older” games. or games that end up unsupported, etc. story or arcade style games you can of course play whenever and still have a great gaming experience.
@jerk_nugget Actually I feel the same way about BPAL - I got a batch of their samples off eBay and love one of them - it’s called “O” - but the others are too intense. What brands do you like? I love perfume; I gravitate towards woody coniferous scents.
one of my other favorite perfume sites i use all the time is ajevie - she decants from several different brands (including BPAL, sixteen92, and hexennacht) so i can try before i buy. i’m signed up for emails so i can see what new collections are dropping.
I’ve been picking up things here and there for various people but I always wait to the last minute to buy for my sons and husband because if my in-laws find out what I’ve bought (my husband has access to all my shopping accounts) then they buy it for them and make me take mine back (my husband says out of courtesy). Pisses me off so I wait and always give the most liked gifts.
Meh Christmas this year. I am boycotting Christmas this year. Not doing a tree not buying gifts. If someone wants something from me they can just come over and take something out of my house. As long as it isn’t my tv fridge washer dryer air fryer instapot or my recliner. If enough people come do that I won’t have so much to pack when I move!
