I knew some people who’d set up an elaborate miniature Christmas village under the tree every year. Their big longhaired cat would delicately pick his way through the little pieces and curl up right in the middle of it, like a big orange mountain. It looked charmingly surreal.
My cat always climbs the tree and rests peacefully in the upper branches. She has never broken an ornament or toppled the tree.
It was my son in law’s aunt who ended up knocking the tree over and breaking several irreplaceable antique family heirloom ornaments.
This is my friend’s cat. Some years ago folks on meh sent some money to his vet and saved his life. He is still going strong 5ish years later (he is, I think 7 or 8 right now). He usually is in the tree each year. She ties it up so it doesn’t fall.
Unfortunately the one time our Christmas tree fell over it broke a couple of super sentimental ornaments including my 18 year old’s first Christmas ornament. I am still salty and sad about it.
We have six cats. One or more cats will end up in the tree each year. They’ve never toppled the tree, but we always tether it to at top and bottom, so it’s beyond our cats’ ability to do so. I think they’ve only ever broken one ornament, and it was an inconsequential glass ball type, not one we care about.
The cats are the reason we don’t take the tree out of the box
@werehatrack ironic since the cats would probably like to get in the box.
we have a pair of new kittens this year, so definitely planning on it.
My catshirts tend not to be that destructive …
@narfcake Weird side thought, do they make catnip scented candy canes?
@rtjhnstn
/google catnip candy canes

Our dog fits under the bottom branches, so no worries
@rtjhnstn He is a dachshund/black lab mix.

So here is more of my friend’s cats at Christmas time.

@kerryzero @Kidsandliz
He’s adorable! Well, they both are, but he’s got an especially angelic face.

Woman Discovers Possum Hiding in Her Christmas Tree: ‘I Don’t Know What to Do’
So the photo isn’t really from the Tiktok; that shows a domestic possum, but this photo has sugar glider.

I was concerned because a sugar glider probably wouldn’t do well outside in the US.
@Kyeh If there is a CHANCE I can get a possum, I’m going to go get a Christmas Tree.
@riskybryzness That should make for some fun antics! Please post videos if you do.
@Kyeh There are reportedly several colonies of feral sugar gliders in South Carolina, but I have not tried to find out where they are…
@werehatrack Okay - that climate is probably okay for them.

It is possible, I MAY have knocked my grandmas tree over when I was a kid. But it wasn’t my fault!!!
