Just curious. C/batch is always pretty straightforward to me but what you use everyday will be what you’re best at. My opinion on coding is if you can perform the logical connections in one you can do most since it’s all just syntax. Mostly.
@unksol Thank you. I actually meant it as a tongue in cheek reference to the Twitter trolls a while back who were picking on people who had just lost their jobs when manufacturing went to Mexico. Cynicism kind of gets lost in writing. Sorry.
I am actually doing some Python coding and as with anything it’s a learning process. I do need to apply myself more seriously.
@unksol I’m an EE so I learned some coding in college but I’ve hardly done any since graduating. In fact my EE degree has been almost a total waste. I use my technician skills far more even though I am technically an engineer. For example, Tuesday I spent almost the whole day working at the metal lathe making custom tools for one of our mfg sites. If I’m honest, I should have been an ME. I really enjoy that kind of work. That said, when I’ve been able to code seriously (PERL many many years ago) it became extremely engrossing and incredibly fun for me. So, if I can get good at coding again and spend some time at it I’m sure I’ll do well.
@tweezak I started in ECE, which was a mistake. I mean the intro classes where freshman kinda wash out were extremely easy, but I should have definitely been in ECET which is more applied/hands on. Integrals have never been my friend.
Even that wasn’t much coding though. The base C course for ECE was just highschool with intensive code standards. ECET we at least got to code microcontrollers and FPGAs and build stuff. Granted I’ve just been doing C on HPUX/Linux forever so. Lots of languages would be an adjustment lol
@tweezak perl can handle newline better than sed/awk if handled appropriately.
I have one script that will take a multi transaction multi attribute file per line, serialize it to one line per transaction, identify the lines wanted based on input, split them out, unserialize them. Then verify the file.
This is just basic batch scripting/piping/regular expressions. But there is something satisfying when you can sit down for a day and eliminate a huge time sink/problem.
I resolve to stop making resolutions!
@yakkoTDI Yeah? You just broke it.
To forget any resolutions
@f00l That is a Great one!.. I have used it many times!
1080 x 1900
@PocketBrain All the years it took to get widescreen everywhere and here you come with that portrait mode bullshit!
To be a better pers… who am I kidding? This old fart is too set in his ways.
Maybe I will loose weight with the stress of another election year.
To do less than I did this year. Which was very little.
1920 x 1080
(a correction)
@PocketBrain
Mine’s only CGA. But it’s cool.
@f00l @PocketBrain 320x200, 4 colors!
EGA looked spectacular when it came out – 640x350, 16 colors.
@PocketBrain aww you were more interesting the other orientation
My resolution is to not win the lottery jackpot all year.
/ If I break my resolution, I’ll deal with the disappointment somehow.

@narfcake oh look. They are already done.
Wait… No corpses yet.

@tweezak in what language/for what purpose?

@tweezak hmm I thought you kind of did coding already just can’t recall specifics so it seemed weird
I choose not to engage in the toxic soup that is Twitter/X/Social media so my bad. Whoosh
There’s always the good old /s
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@bmf The markup language bot just screwed your code.

I like fixing things.
@tweezak @unksol The reason I miss Eudora so badly is its ability to filter emails using regex.
@tweezak @werehatrack lol I gave up on filtering looking ago. I think I’m near 15K unread.

@rtjhnstn Inking in imagery via the use of artificial foods? That’s a very unusual and original hobby!
