@rockblossom I don't remember any of those things, but maybe that's a part of 'their' plan, basically I just decided WTF, it's not worth stressing over...
I'm in IT (officially, head server guy though I'm also a programmer analyst and email admin and storage admin and other things as well). This part of my job is really my hobby.
I also have to manage people on occasion and this part of my job isn't fun, though it isn't always bad.
So let's say about 85% of what I do I'd do for free.
I really consider myself lucky that they pay me enough to live comfortably in NYC to mostly have fun.
I really wish education was an important issue to politicians in NY State, but our governor and legislature are anti-education (in practice: as politicians, what they say makes no difference because it is almost all lies anyway).
If a certain coworker with a seriously overinflated sense of self worth and a way too high salary and a bad Napolean complex would drop dead. .. but since he's only in hia early 30s maybe he should just move far far away.
After some turns in IT and various other jobs, I went back to school and became an airplane mechanic a couple of years ago. Truly love my job, for the first time.
@jmmcnary My girlfriend runs her own company and has freedom, but she works harder than anyone I've ever known. It sucks that the government hates small business owners like you! Keep up the good vibes!
Work as a junior high math teacher and LOVE it! I'm at my alma mater, my kids are enrolled there (so I get a tuition discount), and the kids are great!
Had no idea how much I hated my last job till my new one came looking for me. Turns out work is a LOT more fun when all your coworkers are happy to be there.
Looking into going to a community college to get into an entirely different field. I've spent over a decade working in customer support and I promise you that it has caused me to hate all of humanity.
Hmm week ended with vp calling me @ home to ensure I didn't feel "berated and belittled" or ever "in physical danger" at work.. I love what I do.. Hate the environment .. A less confident/capable person would feel all of the above..sigh :(
I don't so much as hate my job, as much as i am bored with it. (still at my first job out of HS 17 yrs in, Grocery Cashier, been there long enough to make the mediocre bucks, but with a decent enough benifits pkg to make leery to start from scratch elsewhere...) also, no set schedule of any kind. Weekends? Holidays? You'll find me at work, not with my family/friends, what are you crazy?
I normally work 6:30a-3p, but some weeks, i get shoved on to 3rd Shift (10:45p-7:15a) to fill in, because while I'm not the least senior Full timer, I'm the a) youngest, b)live the closest, c) don't have kids to watch. d) don't Kvetch to management about it as much as i should...
and while i could try to step up to management, their schedules are even worse, for not THAT much of a pay raise.
also I'm 36 and have no degree or appreciable/marketable training past HS.
as Irk Says, Maybe it bothers me more than it should...
I'm satisfied for the most part. My supervisor is only occasionally an ass. His head inflated with his job title. He's the kind of boss that won't give 5's on reviews (1 to 4 scale) even when there isn't anything you can improve on. But he's typically out of the office and admitted he didn't really know what I do all day. So I had to type him up a list of what I do and how often it needs to be done. we just roll our eyes about him and go on with our day. But it pays well, has retirement, paid holidays, vacation and sick days. So the most I could ask for is a raise. I know what the person before me got paid, and I do a far better job than she ever did. (I was in a different dept. with the same company before she was even hired) So I think I deserve the pay she was getting at the very least.
Right now there's a mass exodus of employees from the company, so I'm conducting exit interviews almost every day. There's often crying or barely-contained rage during these sessions. I'm paranoid that a disgruntled employee is going to come in guns a-blazin'.
The culture of the company has changed drastically in the past 7 years to one of fear, back stabbing, constant budget cuts (while announcing record-setting profits), and no work-life balance. I'm sticking around just long enough to get some good-looking experience in my job to move on.
I started a new job 2 months ago. Hell of a lot better than my last job, and pay is better too.
@Bogie Awesome! Blessings good spirits, blessings!
my job used to suck, i hated it, then i changed my attitude, now i almost love it
@dmlivezey So what changed your attitude? Hope it didn't involve any alien probes, water boards, or Clockwork Orange-ish readjustment sessions.

@baqui63 That's awesome!
@Wickhameh yeah, it is... except when it isn't.

@MsELizardBeth Have you tried to convince him to invade Russia during the winter?
I don't hate my job, I hate the corporation.

@retswerb interesting. one of the guys who works for me now, albeit part-time, was an airplane mechanic in his previous life
@retswerb My neighbor was an airplane mechanic out of high school and does incredibly well for his family (and no college loan debt). Good for you!
Where is the "I have my complaints, but it's far better than what I WAS doing"? That's where those guy fits in...
numbers, graphs, data, all data all the time. 2 computers, 4 monitors, snacks, data, soda, data. love my job
I'm self employed so the freedom is great, and I love the work
@jmmcnary My girlfriend runs her own company and has freedom, but she works harder than anyone I've ever known. It sucks that the government hates small business owners like you! Keep up the good vibes!

@Wickhameh this is what my daughter is hoping to do (tho HS, not JrHS)
Love what I do (EHS Coordinator). Hate manager that impedes me doing my job effectively.
@PyxienTX If you'd just put a cover sheet on your TPS reports...
@Wickhameh always a cover sheet. Plus, correct spelling is vital.
@PyxienTX I sit right next to the EHS team. I love those guys (and gals)!
@trilliongrams We are definitely a particular breed. Major anal retentive tendencies with a side of crazy.
@PyxienTX "What do you mean someone's cooking on a George Foreman grill in a conference room!?!"

Uemployed....currently on the life-day weekend. After 13 years as a high school math teacher, this is a welcome respite.
Hmm week ended with vp calling me @ home to ensure I didn't feel "berated and belittled" or ever "in physical danger" at work.. I love what I do.. Hate the environment .. A less confident/capable person would feel all of the above..sigh :(
I love my job! I'm retired.

@remo28 The benefits at my pretty-awful job are AWESOME and very had to walk away from.
Eh, it pays the bills.
