@2many2no But they will pick up all manner of tiny metal filings and dust and grit you didn’t even know existed.
Handy tip, cover the magnet with tough plastic of some sort, and then you can just pull off the plastic to dump all the debris it picked up.
I saw one guy just drop a huge magnet into a little plastic bucket, then drag it around his shop floor. He picked up the bucket, held it over the garbage can, and lifted the magnet out of the bucket.
@medz I saw the picture and wanted to “slash” buy one. The Meh lab rats need to hook a slash buy command for a referenced Amazon product and get the affiliate money.
Haven’t had a weekend off in over a month… I’m off this weekend and working Monday. My weekend will be full of laundry and cleaning. Probably doing some prep in case Hurricane Irma decides to come this way.
@RiotDemon DO NOT SAY THAT NAME. Me, I’ll be charging all powerbanks, making sure the cat carriers and vet records are in order, buying boxes of lightweight litter and leaving them in the trunk, backing up all data to the cloud, and deciding whether the Echo and other devices should go with me…
@OldCatLady@Riot Demon I’ve been fighting a migraine so I didn’t know we had yet another hurricane coming. When I was in boarding school we rode out Hurricane Hugo and that was not fun. Yeah, I’m old. Just got caught up in reading about what the last Hurricane did - so for all in the people in the affected area- please be careful.
@WTFsunshine I didn’t know about Harvey until it was about to hit. I don’t know how I missed the news. I don’t want to be so ill prepared. I have shutters and my brother has a generator that he’s bringing to me. I’m on well water so without a generator I’m out of luck except for the water I’ll have in my bath tub and in the freezer. Around here people that have city water never seem to run out, they just have to boil it. I have a propane grill and lots of propane, so I’m good there. Need to set a reminder to pick up extra of all my pets meds.
I wish I had freeze dried food, it’s just so expensive. Why meh hasn’t sold decent freeze dried stuff is beyond me. The last survival bundle they sold was not ideal.
We’re off until Tuesday. I completely forgot about this holiday weekend and made no plans. Which means I have half a weekend of bonus time!
I plan to use it to make @Puppycat her HP weekend costume. (Golden Snitch, with gold tulle and shimmery organza or other mesh/lace type fabric for the wings.)
I am doing nothing this weekend. Hell, I’m still not recovered from last weekend- we went to Vegas, rocked our faces off at several shows, and drank enough to kill a small country’s worth of livers. I have huge bruises all over me from drunk driving my wheelchair into things. snerk Gawd, that was a great weekend.
Our son has a cross country meet in the rain this morning. Has to be at the bus to travel before 0600 and home maybe by 1300. Too muddy from the last couple of days of rain so I can’t go to watch. After that he is looking forward to doing not a darn thing! Husband has to go on duty Sunday for 24 hours and I’m going to just sleep, cook, and do the normal daily life stuff. When I was working I probably would have been doing 12 hour shifts - since people who couldn’t get time off usually “became sick” all of a sudden.
Last night my birth-mom and nephew stopped by on their way to visit my brother in Colorado. They’ll head out after breakfast.
Then I will do paperwork for our vet clinic until it’s time for us to go to the home of a co-worker and make crèpes for dinner.
Sunday I will do paperwork for our vet clinic until it’s time for my band to go play at a donor thank-you party for a classical music concert association.
We’re off Monday but I’m going in to work so that I can take Friday off for a three-day weekend in Monterey.
We bought this “corner set” assemble it yourself furniture that puts a dinette area in a corner of the room. Have to get the 127 pound box open (delivered, thank God!) and start the process.
@radi0j0hn My grandson-in-law came over today, and with a lot of help from him, I finally finished reassembling the picnic table on our patio. It is really old and some of the original boards were warped or broken.
@Barney Yea it was work. It took about 6 hours (taking it easy) to pull, teardown, and thoroughly clean the carb on the XR600. It was a horrible mess, but 100% my fault for not draining the carb and gas tank when it was stored. It was so bad, the throttle slide was welded to the carburetor body. That took a while to break free.
5 minutes now (drain the carb), or 6 hours later (clean up your mess) - sounds like a lot of life choices.
On the upside, I went for a ride with my brother and nephew this morning. It was great, but I’m really glad my nephew was along, because I wasn’t moving much faster than the 12 year old! I’m way out of practice and shape.
It’s great to be able to hop on the dirt bike, ride 5 minutes up to the foothills, and be into the dirt without having to mess with a truck or trailer.
@blaineg Sounds wonderful – not the cleaning of the carbs, but taking your dirt bikes out for a ride.
I used to live near the Denver foothills and we’d get up early and ride our mountain bikes. Really loved doing that, but not the getting up early part.
I have nearly, but not quite, zero plans. A BBQ at friend’s house tomorrow will be very low-key, and sometime this weekend I may go see the Big Sick, which several of my friends WILL NOT SHUT UP ABOUT. Apparently it’s really funny, etc etc.
Technically my schedule was/is Monday to Tuesday, Thursday to Tuesday, and Thursday to Friday. I ended up with 7+ hours of overtime last week at a company that greatly frowns on overtime. Yes, we are that short-handed.
As scheduled, I theoretically have 5.25 hours of overtime this week, but holiday hours trump overtime until I work more overtime than holiday hours (9.25).
I decided, for some reason, to invite my family over for a bbq. It was exhausting, bit I think everyone had a good time so I guess that is all that matters
I just had a new roof installed. I’m going to be picking up nails from my yard. I could use some help…
@Barney get one of those magnet rolling things…

@medz Will you come over and show me how it works?![;)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIABAP///wAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==)
@Barney sadly, haven’t got one. It’s on my wish list though
@Barney

@Barney They don’t work nearly as well as you would expect.
Wear good shoes and watch where you step.

Genius.

I have to decommission the swimming pool. Clean, drain, winterize, cover.
@medz Not yet for me. I will keep that thing open till before the leaves fall. It is easier to open.
@medz Did someone poop in it again?
@huja nah, just too cold to use
@medz Where do you live? It’s still in the 90’s over here in Florida – even on rainy days. I think August is our hottest month of the year.
@cengland0 gets down to 60 at night here. Lucky to see a high of 90 lately like. We like the water to be 85
@medz wow, the other day it was 91 at 530 AM, I’m jealous
@Cerridwyn The other day it was 38 at 5:30, sigh.
@Cerridwyn I kept the pool open because it was supposed to be a high in the mid 90’s yesterday. It was overcast and the water temp never got above 80.![:(](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIABAP///wAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==)

@Thumperchick Someone’s sticking around this weekend to fix the server crash that’s coming up, right?
@cengland0
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Pony From one wheelchairer to another- congrats on getting out and having a blast! Can I just add "jealous!
@WTFsunshine Ha! Thanks! It was long overdue, My first weekend away in 3 years.

My wife is trying really hard to deny that her birthday is Sunday, so I have to come up with something special to help her mind it a little less.
She already declared she is going to stay drunk all week-end, so it has to be better than that.
@2many2no She needs a floppy hat, sunglasses, temporary tattoos, and a pineapple mug.
Working.ugh!#!
@Eheulitt15 Yuck!

@radi0j0hn I have a 110 pound shelving unit that needs to be assembled. I keep putting if off – maybe about 3 years now?
@radi0j0hn I have a 67 pound sideboard to unbox and assemble. i think you have inspired me.
@Barney next time I’m in town, I’ll help you with that.
@RiotDemon I’ll wait for you. As you can see, I’m in no hurry.
@Barney hopefully your taste in furniture doesn’t change any time soon.
@radi0j0hn My grandson-in-law came over today, and with a lot of help from him, I finally finished reassembling the picnic table on our patio. It is really old and some of the original boards were warped or broken.
I’m pulling the carbs off of two dirt bikes for a detailed cleaning. I’m not sure if that’s considered work or play.
@blaineg Play is where you find it. So, play.
@blaineg For you, it might be play. For me, it sounds like a lot of work.
@Barney Yea it was work. It took about 6 hours (taking it easy) to pull, teardown, and thoroughly clean the carb on the XR600. @msklzannie Happy Laboring Days!
@therealjrn Thanks?
