Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
The Serenity Prayer
by Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971)
God, give us grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.
<here is the second verse, far less widely known>
Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.
It is well known that AA, NA, and similar 12 Step organizations encourage the use and understanding of this prayer. They also encourage considerable and extreme flexibility in one’s personal understanding of the terms “Lord”, and “God”, and other specific references to traditionally divine beings and concepts, as many who use 12 Step principles are not comfortable with traditional religion and its approaches.
Well this is entertaining… One kid turned 3 a month ago, the other one is turning 4 at the end of this month (the 9 mo old doesn’t count with this). So I filled a handful of plastic eggs with jelly beans, little chocolates (stuff I know they liked) and set the kids loose looking for them. The 3 year old would find one, open it, dump it on the floor and keep going. The 4 year old figured out if he just followed behind his brother he’d get all the candy and wouldn’t have to look.
When we were done the 3 year old said this was not fun. I asked why not. He said, “no easter in egg”. I asked him what easter looked like. He looked at me like how stupid could I be and said, “big bunny”. Oops. I should have been a bit more explicit about this. LOL Then came the “joy” of getting the older child to part with some of the candy so the younger one could have some.
@mfladd Well now it is today in central time and eastern time. : )
Hoppy Easter to all
Happy Easter everyone.
