Happy 115th birthday of the Antikythera mechanism's discovery!
14Considered the world’s oldest computer, the Antikythera mechanism is an ancient analog computer and orrery used to predict astronomical positions and eclipses for calendrical and astrological purposes, as well as a four-year cycle of athletic games similar to the ancient Olympic Games.

The man behind the Clickspring YouTube channel is building a copy of the Antikythera mechanism: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZioPDnFPNsHnyxfygxA0to4RXv4_jDU2
He has only started this project earlier this year, so check out his mechanical clock while you are on his channel!
Here’s his website: http://www.clickspringprojects.com/
He’s an amazing craftsman, and the video production values are exceptional, well worth a watch!
@TMNY That’s awesome. I watched all 3 of the videos and hope to see the rest after they are made.
@TMNY - Yes, thanks. @stienman too, what a cool guy! The site also lead me to another pretty great video, in a different vein -

I’ve heard the Antikythera device is due for an upgrade.
Microsoft will be installing “Antikythera 2” into it.
@daveinwarsh It’s not really an upgrade.
It’s just an app.
@daveinwarsh, @2many2no Of course, once Microsoft has forced you to accept the installation of 2.0 onto your Antikythera, they’ll then use your mechanism as a host to distribute it to all the other Antikytheras on your local network and the Internet.
@ruouttaurmind - Are they still supporting it, though? I thought they stopped after the first thousand years.
@KDemo Like all MS products, it’s community supported…
Mine was hacked. Won’t even boot up. So, I reburied it.
@Zebenite
Did you try turning it off and on again?
Watcher a movie involving this just yesterday. Also it happens to be my favorite ancient device.
@DVDBZN - I now feel my life is incomplete. I need to come up with a favorite ancient device.
@KDemo
If you are still interested, I suggest researching the Baghdad battery and the Coso artifact.
