@PhysAssist@user47336868 That’s a bit of a confusing image: it looks like three units of the homina schlemina version bolted together, so if each shelf holds 120 pounds, that’d be about 40 lbs vs 30. And what is a “cubicle”? Is that a unit? Or each slot for a tool?
@haydesigner@werehatrack And plumbers – hence why my (used) PEX expander is a M12. Which then prompted me to buy the weakest M12 impact driver, the brushed 2462 because it WON’T overpower the screws like my Skil 12V would. Then I got a hammer drill. And then a ratchet.
The batteries are a handy source for sub-12V power too – and third party ones are cheap. I recently bought some 6.0Ah 3.6Ah ones for $6.49 each.
I have some generic version of this from Temu. Like $20 or so there, holds my cordless screwdriver, impact drill, and other random cordless handheld all with batteries inserted, three battery chargers on top plugged in to the strip, and some various screws in small containers on the middle shelf.
It’s 16 inches wide, so it’s in studs on both sides. Absolutely zero issues. The steel on the bottom might sag a touch with the tools hanging, but it’s nowhere near overloaded. These have great use cases if you want tools easily accessible and not take up workbench spaces.
Why doesn’t Guy Manning know that “screwdriver” is one word, not two? I guess we can believe he doesn’t, but the copywriter (“copy writer?”) shouldn’t let us see such atrocities!
@mehvid1 and “Guy Manning”? Straight outa the naming conventions of the comics
This thing is way too tiny and way too pricey for what it is, but that price is probably 75% of why it exists. There are a whole bunch of competitors that are just as absurdly expensive (or higher), with even less reason in many cases. There are also extremely cheap examples around, but none of them have managed to snag my interest so far.
@werehatrack Agreed, well done in keeping w the theme re: character’s name, etc.
Funny thing is I hadn’t really been in the market for such a contraption, but on Wed. I spent some time looking at some of the options in BezosWorld. Very similar offerings for fewer pesos… but I haven’t decided to give Jeff any more $ yet.
So it’s your mind [and internet history] that Meh was reading?
See my link above for the one at Macy’s that @user47336868 mentioned, and which appears to be of significantly higher quality [or at least somewhat more robust].
@nanceclan6 That said, something 18" wide is likely to have its mounting holes on 16" centers - but mounting multiple units in a row would be problematic as the next units would entirely miss both the immediate and the next stud on both sides
@nanceclan6@werehatrack To do it right you do 18" outside flanged with the left flange and right flange staggered in such a way that you can install them side by side.
@El_Oel@PhysAssist 8 drill slots vs 4 drill slots was where the 2x came from. No power strip true, but most chargers don’t really fit on those shelves anyway (like the Milwaukee combo charger etc).

Doesn’t look like there is room for a garage on there.
@yakkoTDI

But will it put the tools away after they are used?
@Corinalynn86 see, THIS would be an excellent use of AI.
Also doing the dishes and general housework.
Which side is for the Hammacher and which side is for the Schlemmer?
@mehcuda67 The Hammacher is clearly on the right as displayed.
30 pounds is not that much weight right? There is one at macys available for $70 that’s 300 pounds
@user47336868 30lbs is a couple drills and batteries
then what, does it fall apart and come crashing down
@user47336868 It says “each shelf”, and perhaps the rack itself is more, but yeah, I’d like something more solid.
(If this had been in the Mehrathon, I might have bitten.)
@user47336868
Here it is and it looks good:

@brainmist I like “homina schlemina.”
The Iron Giant was and continues to be one of the most slept on formative childhood films of all time.
IF the Iron Giant certifies it, it’s got to be good Right
I own Porter Cable tools from that exact series. Gettin spooky there, Meh.
not made for M12 tools.
Work isn’t made for M12 tools.
@haydesigner Dunno about that, several of them are really popular with mechanics.
@haydesigner @werehatrack And plumbers – hence why my (used) PEX expander is a M12. Which then prompted me to buy the weakest M12 impact driver, the brushed 2462 because it WON’T overpower the screws like my Skil 12V would. Then I got a hammer drill. And then a ratchet.

6.0Ah3.6Ah ones for $6.49 each.The tool holders at the bottom in the picture are already sagging from the weight of the angle grinder lol
Price is decent but that definitely doesn’t inspire confidence
Looks pretty shoddy, I’ll pass
Porter Cable tools are an interesting choice, since the product line has been mostly abandoned.
I too have those tools.
@blaineg Porter Cable has become exclusive to Tractor Supply now.
So is there only the one picture?
Hammers Slammers? It’s been a while since I’ve read any of those.
In all honesty, if someone has all those types of tools… they are very likely to have a lot more tools than that.
@haydesigner So very True!
@haydesigner can confirm.
where are the specs for overall width and height?
@dougtpt in the hammacher link
I mean… if you are hanging it on pegboard. Why aren’t your tools already on peg board?
And I kind of like to be able to 3D print me some under counter mounts for my batteries (and my drill)
@capnjb Yep that is an awesome Idea
EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!
@capnjb I love having my 3D printer…but it does kind of make you try to solve all problems with a 3D printer…happily so
@tightwad If you try to solve and don’t solve, the worst-case scenario is you try to solve and you learn something.
@capnjb @tightwad
Sounds kinda like:
If the only tool you have available is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.
https://quoteinvestigator.com/2014/05/08/hammer-nail/
@capnjb For sure…I’ve enjoyed nearly every minute. Of course most of what I printed at first seemed to be parts for 3D printers…they breed
@tightwad After the last firmware update, I feel like my printer is taunting me

If the tools in my garage vote to form a union, I am in deep shit. I dare not send a self-declared organizer into their midst.
@werehatrack That’s why I prefer hand tools. They lack the power to organize.
@rockblossom @werehatrack I guarantee you that hammers are very adept at strikes.
@rockblossom @werehatrack

@brainmist–you’re really on tonight!
@Kyeh @rockblossom @werehatrack LOL, my once-a-month participation.
This is 12-13" wide.
Why do they not make an industrial shelving tool like this 18" wide, stud width? Seriously
@nanceclan6 Stud width is 16 in, or 24 if it was built by US Homes in a place where that spacing is permitted.
@nanceclan6 That said, something 18" wide is likely to have its mounting holes on 16" centers - but mounting multiple units in a row would be problematic as the next units would entirely miss both the immediate and the next stud on both sides
@nanceclan6 @werehatrack 24 is a good spacing for non-load bearing walls for environmental and cost reasons.
@nanceclan6 @werehatrack To do it right you do 18" outside flanged with the left flange and right flange staggered in such a way that you can install them side by side.
@nanceclan6 @werehatrack Stud width is dependent on the age of the building, as I discovered when buying insulation for the roof of my 1914 barn.
Of course, that was enough years ago, I can’t remember if it meant more or less width.
$80 at HS? Insanely overpriced. Pass even at Meh price. Doubt if many will be sold.
@markmeltzer As of 15:06 Eastern
@markmeltzer @yakkoTDI …aaaand they sold out.
Ummm…there are bigger version on Amazon for less…$28 for one nearly twice the size
https://www.amazon.com/Organizer-Storage-Organization-Install-Utility/dp/B0DCJTWQK9
@tightwad To be fair, the one at the rain forest site doesn’t include a power strip.
@El_Oel @tightwad
At the URL you listed, that one isn’t really even any bigger, much less 2X sized.
Per the HS site, this one is:
8.75" D x 12.75" W x 16.5" H. (9.5 lbs.)
The one on Bezos-World is:
7.8"D x 16"W x 11"H. (5.5 lbs.)
[although the W and H were likely exchanged in the specs.]
@El_Oel @PhysAssist 8 drill slots vs 4 drill slots was where the 2x came from. No power strip true, but most chargers don’t really fit on those shelves anyway (like the Milwaukee combo charger etc).
@El_Oel @tightwad
Well, that explains it, then.
