Our weather is fairly moderate but we do get four actual seasons which took getting used to having grown up in south Louisiana. @RiotDemon we could go up the mountain and make the snow demons!!! 🌨
Very nice! Problem is that is a large plot of land, which makes the houses far apart. When my kids were young I forced them to go to grandma’s house to visit on Halloween. They were really mad until they got there. Our plots are 50 feet wide. My mom lived in Queens and the plots were 20 feet wide and the house was simi attached to the house next door. So you rang two doorbells at once! As soon as they found out you got tons more candy at grandma’s, they never wanted to trick or treat here again! They had their friends go with us to Queens!
@RiotDemon@smilingjack
Lots on my street are 90’ to 110’ wide. Our head count for trick-or-treaters this year was exactly zero. I think it has more to do with there being only one family on the block with kids, and they’re all middle school or older.
@RiotDemon@smilingjack@werehatrack Townhouse. Five or six units per building, 210 total units. We had 12 kids, after buying two large Costco bags of candy, and two more smaller ones from Aldi. 400 odd pieces? The radio shows and TV shows all predicted huge turnout. I took all the leftovers to work to prevent becoming a victim of spousal homicide
@mike808@RiotDemon@walarney I just realized one major oversight in the creation of Festivus, a hideous mascot to scare the bejesus out of the kids! Although Frank Costanza was probably scary enough for most…SERENITY NOW!!!
@speediedelivery no. It was a store bought thing my friend gave me.
My Halloween friend was supposed to move away where I normally go, so I made plans to hang with my other friends just to chill at home. I was hoping to go somewhere on Saturday dressed up but that fell through.
We’ll just so you know adults get a kick out of it too. I drive through my neighborhood at night stopping in front of all the houses that are all Halloweened up to admire them. I love doing it.
There’s a guy like 5 mile from my house that has a real haunted attraction in his front yard. It started small about 28 years ago and he kept adding to it every year. It’s pretty big for someone’s front yard. I somehow just found about it this year (it’s on a road I never drive down bc part of it is still dirt, just about only main road still like that around here). Anyways I stopped by during the day and never made it back at night bc it’s rained so much but on the weekends he and his neighbors actually play parts in the haunted attraction and jump out and scare you. It was really cool and probably would take about 15-20 mins to walk through depending on how much time you spent looking at everything. When I was talking to him there was a bunch of younger kids that kept stopping by to look at it too, the parents were saying they were to afraid to come at night so they stopped during the day. These are the couple photos I took out front of it.
I want to tell you that this is the second Halloween I’ve had that sad. My friends still haven’t received the vaccine and are still afraid to come into contact with anyone. The good thing is that you can play games and communicate by video link. I’ve got a corona now and I’ve been sending very creative Halloween greetings. I prepared a presentation with pictures of our friends.
@Kyeh I’ve been thinking about building a shed… Or garage ceiling storage. He breaks down pretty well. The biggest parts are the pelvis and rib cage. For now he’ll just get thrown into my office or guest bath tub while I figure it out.
@RiotDemon Hah! In your guest bath tub - I love that image!
It’s too bad, I have one of those garage ceiling racks that I bought several years ago and then decided not to use. If only I had an easy way to get it to you …
Ours is much less involved, especially since the HOA redid the unit siding and we now have metal cladding over most of what had once been wood (so no more stapleguns; we can only use command hooks). We still had a nice amount of decoration.
But I can’t leave Halloween up. We keep ‘autumn’ decor out but anything Halloween gets packed up immediately. Makes me sad to pack up the Polish pottery jack-o-lantern my Dad got for us after only 2-3 weeks out, but it just doesn’t feel right starting the day after.
BTW Dollar Tree had a really cool little motion detecting witch that would cackle-laugh when something crossed its line of vision. I ended up buying eight of them, and leaving them in people’s offices, behind their monitors, watching the building main doors, and finally watching our porch on Halloween. More than one of the kids jumped and looked around wildly when they went off.
@Kyeh@RiotDemon My neighbor’s giant Home Depot t-Rex skeleton will be getting Christmas decorations soon. She’s waiting for the homeowner’s association to notice it.
Looks Boo-rific!!!
@tinamarie1974 thanks!

@sillyheathen heck yeah! Sounds like a grand old time.
@RiotDemon come on up to the murder shed! Which immediately had me start singing

I’m always sad on November first but I’m apple picking today. So that helps.
Wow! That’s a seriously tall skeleton!
@chienfou I love him!

@smilingjack yeah, most people go to this one area and leave everything else alone. Kinda sad for everyone else, but I get it.

So fabulous! I’m looking forward to seeing what you do for Christmas.

How come no costume? the lights!
Did you make the purple tree?

It’s a real shame you don’t have trick or treaters in your neighborhood. The kids would love your house.

Only 350 or so days to work on next year’s light show.

The aftermath.
This is what it looks like pulling all the stuff from the lawn so it could get mowed. My 12’ boy not included.
@RiotDemon How are you going to store your 12’ boy??
@Kyeh I’ve been thinking about building a shed… Or garage ceiling storage. He breaks down pretty well. The biggest parts are the pelvis and rib cage. For now he’ll just get thrown into my office or guest bath tub while I figure it out.

@Kyeh @RiotDemon You mean you don’t already have an ossuary?
Getting ready for next year.

It’s a weird time of year
@walarney I’ve already seen 3 places decorated for Christmas.
How much longer do you guys think I can leave Fred in the front?
@tinamarie1974 Well, you could put a pilgrim hat on him till December, and then a Santa hat after that …
@Kyeh hahahahahahaha
@tinamarie1974 @RiotDemon Storage problem solved - or at least postponed:
@Kyeh I’m tempted… Lol
