@tinamarie1974 it is! It’s a little sad because there is many an item in the piles that I was with my friend when he bought them. He was planning on shipping a bunch of this stuff… When I drove home with the first carload today he decided against a lot of it. When I got back I was shocked at the pile he had waiting for me.
Wow. Back when we had tons of kids and decorated, I’d get everything up on Halloween morning, then take it all down that night. Spider webs, two little light up villages in our entry way, fog in the fountain, music, a cemetary in the front yard…
Then I gave it all away when the crowds got thinner. Then we just had inflatable, lit, big cats. A cute inflatable pumpkin with Tigger out of the top in the entry way and a ceramic carved pumpkin. It was tame, for sure.
@lisaviolet yeah. It’s definitely changed over the years. I never really decorated when I first moved in since I’m on a dead end street. Then I decided to decorate for myself and my neighbors. Who knows. Maybe next year word will get out to at least drive by and check it out.
I know there’s websites to track Christmas light sightings. Hopefully someone can make one for Halloween stuff.
I once found myself in a very similar position and I looked at renting a storage facility. After taxes, a 10x10 room would have cost almost $2400 a year. I estimated the sum of my Halloween props to be a little less than $2000. It would have been more cost effective to just throw it all away and start over the next year.
@DrWorm yeah. I totally understand that. I started looking at sheds. Now I’m wondering if it’s just easier to replace my attic ladder and put down boards. A shed might disappear in a hurricane. The problem is that I can’t stand up in my attic so it’s not very comfortable moving around.
@DrWorm Around here you can get a 5x10 for around $69 per month, for the first year. Then they jack the price $10 - $15 per month every subsequent year until you are paying way too much and its cheaper to rent a cargo van and move to another place that has a startup special at low rates.
We do store seasonal items in our attic. No drop down ladder; I have to drag the big ladder upstairs to put things up and down. But I put down plywood panels to make a solid floor to put everything on and construction lights, and I can stand up under the roof peak so its not too bad when its not too hot .
