@shahnm I met a lady, probably in her 50s that had this hairstyle. The part that went up was probably about 3-4" and 3" wide. I was so caught off guard. I saw her twice afterwards and she had the same hairstyle. Blew my mind.
If I want to have curls instead of wild frizz I use a little light gel! I useta use mousse too. I didn’t start to embrace my curly locks until I was about 25, mostly because of the products that helped keep it under control! YAY gel, YAY mousse!!
@Lynnerizer DevaCurl gels do really well for my curly hair. I use the one with the most hold (Arc Angel), but they have products from light hold to strong hold
@Lynnerizer
I have really curly hair and use OGX curl styling milk, its like a cream. I haven’t touched a gel since I’ve been in my tweens and would wear my hair in a ponytail and use the gel to slick it back lol or when I wore it down it would give me crunchy curls. I’ve herd gel has changed but I still don’t trust it and when you have something that works why change it.
I used gel or mouse when I was in grade school. Then I spent most of my life not putting anything in my hair because gel made me look so stupid. Then I was an adult with poofy hair until I realized that there’s not a binary between gel/mouse and nothing. I’ve now been using a matte pomade for a long time. It does the trick.
I used to use gel when I was 12 or 13 or so, but it was never good. I always used too much, or too little, and I never used it in a way that was an optimal use case for the stuff.
At my age, what hair?

@RiotDemon I wonder where she got the “gel” tip to make that happen…
@shahnm I was tempted to ask… But I wouldn’t want to get fired.
I prefer mousse.

@heartny I thought that was supposed to be lighter, but those look like they would weigh down your hair…

For about 2 weeks when I was 12 in the late 90s.
@Oneroundrobb
Same, or when people died or got hitched. My dad would comb my hair to the side and mousse it up for some reason for said events.

@Lynnerizer ditto to all of that! My daughter has had it so much better than we did!

@Lynnerizer @togle L.A. Looks 10+ hold is cheap and great for curly hair.

My favorite brand.
Only when I get my hair cut and she runs her hands through my hair. “A little more, please.”

Styling paste. The CVS house brand is surprisingly good stuff.
“Gel’s funny. You wash your hair and then you put gel in it. It’s like, it’s clean now, let me f–k it back up”
On what? My arms? Chest? Legs?

The styling stuff that I use is called a curl-enhancing smoothie. It’s not a gel or a mousse.
@ahacksaw
It’s a cream like texture.
@Star2236 I know, I use it.
