@Targaryen Of course, that’s just the smoking part. Then there’s the 24 to 36 hours in the sous vide bath to make the meat super tender, since I don’t feel like trying to keep a charcoal grill lit all night and the oven doesn’t regulate well at the low temp ranges.
My weekly groceries and my weekend groceries are different. I shop at HMart a Korean grocery store for weekly staples like kimchi that I can eat for a few days. I also hit the salad section in Kroger for some discount salads and stuff.
I don’t have any big weekend cooking projects usually. The most involved it gets is buying a cheap bottle of wine and some fruit to make a sangria.
Just purchased for delivery tomorrow. Looks like I will be making a pork tenderloin with baked potatoes, broccoli, salad and yeast rolls. Cherry pie for dessert. No bread or pie for me, but my parents are coming over and they will appreciate it!
Also added the fixins to make homemade salsa verde so I can make street tacos with the leftovers
@Targaryen No name as the recipe is not always the same. It is about ease of preparation. The ground beef is the hardest part to prepare. I usually buy the biggest package I can at the store and brown it up all at once. Freeze whatever I don’t use that night in portions for making soup/chili.
Every once in a while the meat can be beef or pork chunks. Just as long as they need minimal browning and get fully cooked slowly simmering in the pot.
Forgot to mention that the corn is also frozen. The type of beans used changes and can include great northern beans, chili beans** or red beans. Other ingredients can include hominy, peas (frozen since canned are mushy), carrots, brown gravy to thicken it up, Rotel diced tomatoes, etc.
**I only use Joan of Arc spicy chili beans. Not spicy hot but spicy flavourful. Never found another brand I liked.
I’m at work evenings this week so no big plans. Did make a rosemary/garlic sourdough loaf today that is proofing in the fridge for baking in the AM.
We are packing up a bunch of food to take to the beach for next week when we will be on Dauphin Island to celebrate Mom’s 91st birthday with her and a bunch of our friends that know her. We rented a 5 bedroom place and will stay for 8 days . Each couple (4 of them) will plan and provide a couple of meals and we will go out a few times I am sure. Overall it will be pretty low key and lots of fun. Picked a few Meyer lemons off our tree to make lemon curd to go with the lemoncello cake we are bringing, and a threw in a couple of sleeves of stroopwafels from you-know-where.
All you people do way more cooking than I do. I hate to cook. When I told my kid that there were good reasons why some species eat their young she told me because I hated to cook I wouldn’t know how to cook her. I told her there was always the internet. Please invite me to your houses for dinner. Dinner tonight for me was left over chicken, spinach (frozen and cooked in the microwave in the bowl I ate it out of), cherry tomatoes straight from the container and chocolate chip ice cream.
Well, I had no list, but I got to Costco and bought 9.5 lb. of chicken thighs, shiitake mushrooms, a pack of canned chili, strawberry yogurt pretzels, and Boom-Chicka-Pop kettle corn. Then King Soops for bread, milk, eggs, coffee and ice cream. So far I’ve only eaten yogurt pretzels and kettle corn; too worn out from shopping! Canned chili is probably the plat du jour tonight.
I went grocery shopping last night. I had to shop for 2 more since my parents are coming for a visit and spent 66% more than normal That being said, I did buy some stuff for home made stew, Pulled pork, pork chops, and my kiddos asked me to make chicken and dumplings again. So we’re ready for some yummy food while the folks are out visiting.
for lunch today I was able to make a quick egg roll in a bowl which I ate SO MUCH.
@Kyeh It was a recipe I found on FB, here is the recipe from the comments
Ingredients:
• 1lb tri-color coleslaw
• 1lb ground beef or meat of choice
• 1 tbsp rice vinegar
• 1 tbsp sesame oil
• 1-2 tbsp agave syrup or honey
• 1/4 cup soy sauce
• 1 tsp ginger powder or fresh
• 2 tsp garlic powder or fresh
Garnish with sliced green onions & sesame seeds.
@Kyeh@mbersiam FYI: I’m not on FB and the link DID open for me. I’ll try the recipe though a little doubtful about egg “rolls” w.o. the egg rolls. Would probably make a good quick filling for actual egg rolls, except that I would probably prefer ground pork to the ground beef. Thanks for posting.
A dry rubbed brisket will be going on the grill around 2:00 today.
@werehatrack How long will take?
@Targaryen If I do everything exactly right, about 4 to 6 hours.
@Targaryen Of course, that’s just the smoking part. Then there’s the 24 to 36 hours in the sous vide bath to make the meat super tender, since I don’t feel like trying to keep a charcoal grill lit all night and the oven doesn’t regulate well at the low temp ranges.

My weekend groceries usually involve take-out.
This weekend I think we’re grilling chicken leg quarters and roasting some broccoli.
@Thumperchick Sounds good! You should try syracuse salt potatoes with those. Pretty easy to make.
@Targaryen salt potatoes are the best.
@Thumperchick I made them at home once and they were really good.
I want to make some homemade CFA Chicken Minis this weekend, so I’m going to grab some stuff to make that.
My normal weekly list is usually whole milk, chicken breast, whatever veg looks good, whatever meal plan stuff we’ve figured out.
@ChadP You’re going to brine the chicken in pickle juice and buttermilk or whatever CFA does too?
@Targaryen Nah. I’ll just season it really well. I may use pickle juice, though. I do have plenty.

@tinamarie1974 Sounds good gotta love having enough to have left overs or even better making a whole new easy dish.
@Targaryen agree! I suspect it will last at least half way through the week.
On the weekend I like to make reservations.
@heartny
Making a big pot of lazy soup this weekend. Ground beef, navy beans, cannellini beans, pinto beans, black beans, potatoes, corn, broth and spices.
Beans are canned and the broth is store bought.
@yakkoTDI Sounds good. What is name of it?
@Targaryen No name as the recipe is not always the same. It is about ease of preparation. The ground beef is the hardest part to prepare. I usually buy the biggest package I can at the store and brown it up all at once. Freeze whatever I don’t use that night in portions for making soup/chili.

@yakkoTDI So basically this is just … soup. Like soupiest of soups.
@Targaryen Yep, just soup. It is just low effort.

@chienfou Sounds nice! Have a good trip.

@Kidsandliz Nothing wrong with easy.

@Kyeh Shopping is like that sometimes, after a trip to the store gotta sit back and recover.
I went grocery shopping last night. I had to shop for 2 more since my parents are coming for a visit and spent 66% more than normal That being said, I did buy some stuff for home made stew, Pulled pork, pork chops, and my kiddos asked me to make chicken and dumplings again. for lunch today I was able to make a quick egg roll in a bowl which I ate SO MUCH.
@mbersiam How do you make egg roll in a bowl?
Not - an egg rolling in a bowl:
@Kyeh It was a recipe I found on FB, here is the recipe from the comments
Ingredients:
• 1lb tri-color coleslaw
• 1lb ground beef or meat of choice
• 1 tbsp rice vinegar
• 1 tbsp sesame oil
• 1-2 tbsp agave syrup or honey
• 1/4 cup soy sauce
• 1 tsp ginger powder or fresh
• 2 tsp garlic powder or fresh
Garnish with sliced green onions & sesame seeds.
and maybe this link to the post will work
@mbersiam Thanks! That sounds really good. I appreciate your writing it out because I’m not on FB and the link won’t open for me.
@Kyeh @mbersiam FYI: I’m not on FB and the link DID open for me. I’ll try the recipe though a little doubtful about egg “rolls” w.o. the egg rolls. Would probably make a good quick filling for actual egg rolls, except that I would probably prefer ground pork to the ground beef. Thanks for posting.
@Kyeh @phendrick yea, there’s many ways to make it. There’s a keto recipe too. I used alulose rather than the suggested sweeteners.
I also prefer beefo over pork but have seen recipes that call for pork
@mbersiam @phendrick “beefo”?
@Kyeh @phendrick hahaha as many typos as I leave in the comments, you’d be surprised how many I actually correct
@mbersiam @phendrick I actually looked it up because I wondered if it was something like a vegan “meat” - like the Impossible Burgers.
