@RiotDemon Same here. Got one probe thermometer with mediocre reviews a few years ago, terrible experience. Don’t want this to be as bad. But the price is decent…
@RiotDemon have been using one for years on my smoker. Picked this up as a a spare and the extra probe. I have had no problems with mine just dont leave the screen in direct sunlight.
@caver2130 WAY cheaper options (with much longer cords on the probe) that this if all you need is temp, As close as Wal*Mart or Big Lots (or Ross or TJ Maxx)
@caver2130 Do you mean like you need to re-pair it every time you use it, or even while you’re using it the connection cuts out and you have to pair again?
Well now I’m disappointed cuz the guy above me says that I could have gotten it on Amazon for less. But it’s going towards my Christmas presents for others pile and I wouldn’t have thought of it otherwise so thanks for the idea meh…

@lowerone well I appreciate the personal note, don’t feel too bad though I only had to edit mine 4 times before everything was properly spelled AND the picture came through.
@Pantheist yes. I have one that is similar (but old tech/non-bluetooth) and it works fine in an oven. That being said, I am in for two of the BT version.
@trisk should do fine, and no worries about “black screens” due to leaving it in the sun outside… (though mine always returns to readable once it is out of the sun for a few minutes).
@jqubed the probe is easy to clean - I just use soap, water, and a dish brush… I do have to be careful where I put the probe in relation to the grill, but that’s the case with most probes.

I’ve owned several such devices. Regarding this one:
The good news is that the price is dirt cheap. $13? A third of what I’ve paid at Lowe’s. The bad news: yet anudder freakin’ cell phone app! A dedicated receiver, that you put on your belt like the pagers of 30 years ago, is far preferable. Why do companies think we keep wanting more cell phone apps?
@elizadeath no reason it shouldn’t. I use mine for lots of things including monitoring when the temp gets too low for my tropicals when the temp drops outside.
Oregon Scientific products are hit-or-miss. I have some that work fine; others are duds. And besides, if you have the racial memories of the Neanderthal (and who doesn’t?) you should just “know” when things are perfectly cooked. It’s pre-programmed at the genetic level, and you don’t need blue teeth…
Now I can grill pork ribs in the dead of the harsh Pacific Northwest winter. I can happily slumber away while I cook knowing my phone will wake me when its time for ribs.
just read the instruction manual… picture/icon for lamb looks suspiciously like a GOAT. Coincidence or did @ignorant have a hand in designing the interface?
@dave The top of the front page (product page) used to say “meh.com/forum” at the top left corner (just like this oage). If you clicked on “/forum” you went to that product’s forum page, and if you clicked on “meh.com” you went to the front page, which of course was where you already were! @MehnofLaMehncha the purpose here it to make sure that 2001st steak is equally undercooked. I’m with you, most folks totally FU a good steak by cooking the crap out of it. @smitty1119Bummer. Sounds like one of the “touch” buttons is ‘stuck’. Hope you get satisfaction from either meh or Oregon Scientific. I just used mine yesterday and it was not intuitive, but worked well (see other posting(s) about that below…)
OK, so I finally got mine unpacked yesterday and used it while smoking a pork shoulder roast. Worked fine! However, it is a pretty steep learning curve to use the damn app in conjunction with it. Seemed like it would randomly set temp sometimes, not others, switch from temp to time to profile while trying to set etc. BONUS! On the other hand, I found that the probe for another (not BT) thermometer I already had works in this unit! That allowed me to monitor the temp of the smoker and the meat at the same time (but gave me twice the fits to program)
Re: How to turn off your thermometer:
OK I have linked it above in a couple of replies, but here is the link for the manual from the website.
If you look closely, you can see that they have updated the face of the unit to include an icon for a “start” button next to the “SET” button.
IMHO this manual is much better than the one that came in the box with the unit. Only wish I had looked it up yesterday before I tried to use it!

Googling AWP133 shows first result as a link to buy this same thing for 8.41 at amazon, why pay more here?
So not only winning google with just six letters, but ruining meh’s day.
That link that you didn’t post isn’t increasing your credibility, @lowerone.
@lowerone You do realize $8.41 is just for an extra probe and not the whole unit?
@lowerone Look again. That’s just the probe.
@lowerone You’re looking at the price for the additional probe.
@lowerone that’s only the probe.
@lowerone Where?
Ah, ok.
@lowerone Just chiming in to echo the chorus of “probe”!
@salaosantiago lol. I think we all posted within 5 seconds of each other.
@lowerone most anticlimactic response ever
@lowerone I guess never to be heard from again!
@lowerone that’s just the price of the probe
Looking at the reviews makes me hesitant…
@RiotDemon Same here. Got one probe thermometer with mediocre reviews a few years ago, terrible experience. Don’t want this to be as bad. But the price is decent…
@RiotDemon You mean when even the Amazon Vine reviews are 1-star?
@narfcake yeah. I mean, geez. If you get it for free, you’d think you’d cut it some slack.
I think I’ll stick to my trusty analog, poke it in the meat when I think it’s close, for now.
@RiotDemon have been using one for years on my smoker. Picked this up as a a spare and the extra probe. I have had no problems with mine just dont leave the screen in direct sunlight.
Finally I can set up that roast for next March.
I’m waiting for wiping your ass to have an IOS app.
@Pufferfishy No need for an app, just use the selfie cam to make sure you get all the nooks and crannies.
@Pufferfishy There are app controlled bidets, y’know.
Meh, you can’t make up for no topic yesterday with two topics today.
I have one. The Bluetooth sucks. It doesn’t always stay connected. But as a digital thermometer, it works well. Buying another.
@jqubed that is correct
@Pufferfishy true, but the occasional times that the Bluetooth works makes it better
@caver2130 which is correct (or are both correct??)
@chienfou both

Why?
To cook your food? or to annoy everyone else at the party with a dumb BT thing

I agree with RiotDemon, the reviews worry me. Also the company’s store is selling it half off and I think a free extra probe.
@gustador I ended up buying it because I had a $5 credit.
I hope I don’t regret it.
@RiotDemon I bought 2 so I’d have an extra probe/unit for whichever went tits up first!
@chienfou that’s he spirit! Are you sure you don’t need a third - so you’ll have a backup for the backup?
Afterall, these gadgets are small and don’t take up much space in the forgotten things storage closet.
@RedOak nope, this gets me a second probe (if I should need one) as well as a backup control unit…I think I’m all set!
@gustador which is still more $$ than getting 2 complete units here (plus more shipping), so not such a better deal.
