Gree Dehumidifier Recall
9Just a heads up that you should check to see if your dehumidifier has been recalled. It’s wide age and model list and you can find it over at https://www.cpsc.gov/Newsroom/News-Releases/2023/CPSC-Warning-Stop-Using-Recalled-Gree-Dehumidifiers-Due-to-Fire-Hazard-4-Deaths-May-be-Tied-to-Recalled-Units and while you’re at your fire extinguishers too https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2018/Kidde-Recalls-Fire-Extinguishers-with-Plastic-Handles-Due-to-Failure-to-Discharge-and-Nozzle-Detachment-One-Death-Reported

Looks like my Kidde is a straight handle and not a curved handle which are the ones being recalled.
Thanks for posting this!
I first read this as “ghee dehumidifier” and thought, is humid ghee a real problem?
@ybmuG I think i can safely say that nobody wants moist ghee!
@ircon96 @ybmuG I mean dehydrated ghee is also not good I think?
@ircon96 @unksol and yet it does exist
At 2.50/oz on that other site
@ircon96 @ybmuG well… By definition someone wants a ghee dehydrator/thinks it’s an issue
@ybmuG That you for clarifying that.
What I’d like to know is the exact actual problem that is causing this overheating condition. Is the compressor locking up and not cutting out? Is a resistor on the control board going postal and melting down? Perhaps a loose connection somewhere causing arcing?
@PooltoyWolf Oh, but they absolutely must not give us enough data to make an informed decision; we’re just supposed to Do What We Are Told Because They Know Best. (And if they really admitted what the problem was, they might be expected to make parts available to do a field-fix, and we mustn’t start Getting Ideas about keeping old stuff going instead of buying the current Shiny.)
@werehatrack To play devil’s advocate, it’s probably because they don’t want people attempting to fix it themselves, fucking it up, and causing injury, death, or worst of all, litigation. /s
@PooltoyWolf @werehatrack very long ago 1980s I think the DeLonghi oil-filled electric heaters had a fix-it-yourself recall where they would send you the entire side panel with switches and mechanical timer (i think timer was the problem) and you had to remove some screws, replace the control panel, plug in some wires, and put it back together. mission accomplished!
I can’t imagine that being allowed now even though those type of heaters have not changed at all. but people who can follow directions have, I guess.
@pmarin @werehatrack Man, I wish I could still do that today!
I had a kidder extinguisher my husband had to use. I called around to get refilled and they talked me into a quality extinguisher.
@mbersiam those extinguishers are basically one time use disposables. Cheap, don’t need annual pro inspections and refill, but one and done.
