@Bcburk You type really well for someone who can’t read. But I guess you won’t be reading this…so…I could probably say just about anything and you’d never know.
This would be a GREAT item to stuff in an IRK box!! That is, if there ever was another IRK box to be made available to us poor, sleep deprived wretched souls who have almost forgotten entirely what the “F5” button is for. I vaguely remember it being useful in helping to acquire an IRK but I could be mistaken. Oh well, guess it doesn’t matter now anyways.
Not going to lie, even with the Amazon reviews I would have ordered one if it were also a toaster oven.
I never thought about a dehydrator being integrated with an air fryer, but it does make sense
@sixsmith it pretty much is a convection toaster oven but yeah, the ability to cycle fresh air through it using the convection fan so it can dehydrate is a good idea.
@2many2no@enoch Yep, standard 15a circuit. Although, extended use on those is limited to 1250w (1350? Too last to math right now) @ 120v, by code. So things like space heaters are only 12amp. Since these turn off and on to regulate the temp, they can pull the full 1800w in bursts.
@2many2no@enoch@slightlyevolved 1,875 watts is the maximum permissible wattage on most modern 15 amp household circuits, though I don’t know how long they’re rated to tolerate that amount of power! Probably a short term maximum limit. It is worrisome that this device claims to be able to consume 1,800 watts, if only because that means it essentially hogs an entire circuit all for itself while operating. This is the reason we can’t use the microwave and a space heater in the living room at the same time - whoever designed this house decided that the outlets on both sides of the wall separating the kitchen and the living room should share the same circuit!
@2many2no@enoch That’s right against the limit of a standard household circuit…those are rated for 15 amps max. I’m really wondering if it was absolutely necessary for them to design this thing to draw ALLLLL the power…
@2many2no@enoch@PooltoyWolf Eh. It doesn’t draw the 1800w the whole time. It’s so it can get up to temp reasonably quick. It’s like watching Netflix on multiple devices on a 20Mb internet connection.
It’s bursty, so unless all the devices happens to hit their burst at the same moment, it’s not an issue. Pretty common. Think toasters, coffee pots, and microwaves.
They all turn on at high power, then level off (except the microwaves, unless you have a Panasonic Inverter until, they are ALL POWER or ALL OFF, no middle). Once up to temp, they only pull a fraction of the max power, in bursts, to regulate the temp. So in reality, once settled it’s going to cook at using something like 900w every X seconds.
@mattj Just adding “air fryer” to any typical recipe search will yield lots of results. But honestly the oven part isn’t really that different from any over - although it seems a lot faster…
As it’s a basic dehydrator, any searches for dehydrator use will apply here.
I have this unit - it’s not branded with this brand, but I have one that is exactly the same in every way.
I got it because it was cheap, I hadn’t really jumped on the air fryer bandwagon - and it has been one of the best kitchen tools I’ve bought since my first sous vide cooker a decade ago. I only use my full-size oven these days when I make large pizzas and bread.
One of the biggest surprises is how well it will roast a red pepper…
I was really interested, until I read the amazon reviews. Too many break randomly/customer service doesn’t care situations for my comfort level. But love the concept!
@Jackinga Given I have no idea what any of those things are, I’m confident in saying repairs like that are outside my skill set, but good to know that some people can fix them!
We don’t eat a lot of rotisserie chicken, but when we do, we prefer a 7-lb rotisserie chicken at Sam’s Club or the grocery store. 6-lbs is not enough. Stay hungry, my friends.
@Jackinga
And the ones from Sam’s have been reliably superior to both Costco and WalMart in my experience. There has been many a time that I’ve bought one on arrival at a city where I was vending at a convention, and had dinner from it for three nights in a row. Far cheaper than take-out.
@Jackinga@werehatrack I’d think the ones at Walmart and Sam’s Club would be the same, considering Walmart owns Sam’s and a lot of the same foods end up in both stores.
@jwnelson
Yeah, I figured it was something like that. Same thing happened to me a while back with the ilife robot vacuums. Wanted one for my daughter, but they never came back up. Ended up buying one from side deal for only a few dollars more thanks to my VMP monthly contribution…
Not sure she ever even took it out of the box yet though…

This thing cooks forum topics way too slowly.
Finally the answer to our moist food problems!
Just set it…and forget it!
I can’t read but based on the photos it gets up to 370° and can cook things that either take 4:00 or 0:20 to cook
@Bcburk You type really well for someone who can’t read. But I guess you won’t be reading this…so…I could probably say just about anything and you’d never know.
@Bcburk I’m pretty sure it goes up to 400°. That seems to be the standard max temperature of an air fryer these days.
17 quarts seems like a big capacity for one person, under normal circumstances.
@heartny It isn’t. Most people take up more than 17 quarts and have to be cooked in batches.
@heartny @yakkoTDI Most underrated comment here…
The hamster wheel seems a bit barbaric.

A multitasker! Alton Brown would buy it. But, I’m not AB.

@sixsmith it pretty much is a convection toaster oven but yeah, the ability to cycle fresh air through it using the convection fan so it can dehydrate is a good idea.
@sixsmith I use my air fryer to toast bread/english muffins all the time. Is that what you’re looking to do?
@mandirose @sixsmith Putting bacon on and then toasting is also good (flip bacon/bread half way through).
@ergomeh @sixsmith bacon is one of my all time fav uses for my air fryer
It fries Mojave air, OK, but will it fry humid Gulf Coast air?
I can share a LOT of Gulf Coast Air. Air that you can wear. Free for the taking… Please take it.
@Mandamm
I already have plenty, thanks.
I don’t think I have an 1800W outlet.
Seems they are rated at 1500W max.
@2many2no 1800W at 120v = 15amp
You should be fine.
@enoch What’s that burning smell?
@2many2no @enoch Yep, standard 15a circuit. Although, extended use on those is limited to 1250w (1350? Too last to math right now) @ 120v, by code. So things like space heaters are only 12amp. Since these turn off and on to regulate the temp, they can pull the full 1800w in bursts.

Does anybody know of a good cookbook for a dehydrator? Or a website/forum? I got one several years ago, but never found a good source for recipes.
@mattj Just adding “air fryer” to any typical recipe search will yield lots of results. But honestly the oven part isn’t really that different from any over - although it seems a lot faster…
As it’s a basic dehydrator, any searches for dehydrator use will apply here.
Looks like it would fit nicely into a 2022 IRK Bag - color NEVER
What’s the largest non-commercial air fryer you can get? Is 17qt already at the top end?
@datruandi I’ve seen 20+ on Amazon.
@datruandi I’ve seen 25 qt from this brand and others. It’s usually about the size of a microwave for reference.

Getting a spare at this price.
Worth it for the rotisserie chicken alone IMO…
Garlic shrimp…
Manchego cheese stuffed,bacon-wrapped dates…
Loaded chicken nachos (chicken was pre-cooked)
Oh - and if you make things with scorched garlic or onions (salsa verde, cochinita pibil, etc) this thing is great for that.
I was really interested, until I read the amazon reviews. Too many break randomly/customer service doesn’t care situations for my comfort level. But love the concept!
@Jamileigh17 I have repaired more than one air fryer. What usually goes out is a simple thermal fusible in either the fan motor or the heater circuit.
If the fan runs, but it doesn’t heat or if it heats but the fan doesn’t run, then it is usually a thermal fuse that has blown.
BF172 Aupo Thermal Fuse TF Cutoff 172C 110VAC /250VAC 10A. Those links cost ~$1.67 each in a pack of 5. Disassembly, and soldering required.
If the touch panel goes, then the unit is toast for all practical purposes.
@Jackinga Given I have no idea what any of those things are, I’m confident in saying repairs like that are outside my skill set, but good to know that some people can fix them!
@Jackinga @Jamileigh17
Thanks for the tip on the thermal fuse, cheap components like that are good to have around.
Does it come with an upgraded electrical panel, more kitchen outlets, and more counter space for our already gadget overloaded kitchen?
Anyway, I hate touch screen gadgets, which is all that seems to be available these days.
@Jackinga
I’m right there with you on touch screens. My preferred level of “smart” electronics in a common appliance is “none”.
We don’t eat a lot of rotisserie chicken, but when we do, we prefer a 7-lb rotisserie chicken at Sam’s Club or the grocery store. 6-lbs is not enough. Stay hungry, my friends.

@Jackinga A 6 pounder in these is a push. Until the meat “firms” up there’s a lot of flapping and banging. No way would a 7 pounder fit in here…
/giphy that’s what she said
@Jackinga @werehatrack I’d think the ones at Walmart and Sam’s Club would be the same, considering Walmart owns Sam’s and a lot of the same foods end up in both stores.
@PooltoyWolf
in my experience the Walmart ones are WAY smaller than the Sam’s chickens…
I don’t know where I could store this in my dubble wide.
My air fryer is great, toss in frozen chicken nuggets at 400 for 10 minutes, when I have no other food ready.
I have an older version of this and I love it.
Is everyone verifying whether they already own a convection oven?
Wish I’d bought 2
@jwnelson
Wow… did the first one break already??
@chienfou haha, no my Mom wants one too now, and its more $
@jwnelson
Yeah, I figured it was something like that. Same thing happened to me a while back with the ilife robot vacuums. Wanted one for my daughter, but they never came back up. Ended up buying one from side deal for only a few dollars more thanks to my VMP monthly contribution…
