Goatest Of All Time (April 2022 Scapegoat Blame Thread)
12Well, maybe not all time…
More like “Goatest Of April Time”
That’s right, folks! March has already gone marching along and you April Fools are here just in time to shift your blame away from @mbersiam, though their self-sacrifice made for a fairly smooth March. The votes are in and though @phendrick was just a month away from avoiding the role for 6 straight years, the Goatest Of April Time is in the hot seat now.
Get the blame rolling and let @phendrik know how you really feel and keep the blame flowing.

Blame: You’re all ignoring this post because something more exciting is happening. I guess @phendrik can share that blame with the rest of the team here for kicking off today with a much-awaited Meh-rathon. You’re welcome?
@ExtraMedium I’ll take the blame for a lot, but I refuse to take the blame for this:
https://meh.com/forum/topics/i-found-the-secret-irk
Deal with the OP directly.
Blame i wanted the first mehrathon on 2022 as goat!
Blame! @walterbird didn’t win again!
@werehatrack Bird bigotry is alive and well on Meh.
@Walterbird @werehatrack
Win what?
Take it up with whichever is more appropriate for your angst.

@phendrick @Walterbird @werehatrack Tell him to tweet about it on twitter.
@phendrick GOAT of course
@Kidsandliz @phendrick @werehatrack Even though I am a bird, I don’t tweet.
@Kidsandliz @Walterbird @werehatrack Is that a feature or a bug?
@phendrick @Walterbird @werehatrack
Cat got your tongue?
@Kidsandliz @phendrick @werehatrack No-since my parents treat me like a human being, I am only allowed to express myself in words-no bird sounds.
@phendrick @Walterbird @werehatrack Sorry your adoptive parents are so controlling that you aren’t allowed to speak your native language. You are over the age of 18. Maybe you should fly the coup and get some freedom.
@Walterbird
Why, dead batteries? BIRDS AREN’T REAL.
@Kidsandliz @phendrick @werehatrack Wait-how do you know I’m adopted? When I asked them, they said I wasn’t and that I was their own flesh and blood. I did question them on why they didn’t have any feathers, but they told me they were old and their feathers fell out. I’m devastated.
@Kidsandliz @phendrick @werehatrack
@Walterbird:
@mrchristian @Walterbird
The usually staid NYT had this in their email today:
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @phendrick @werehatrack If that is the case, why do they get mad if I poop on the floor?
@Kidsandliz @phendrick @Walterbird @werehatrack
Parents of biologically-related kids get mad at that, too.
@phendrick @Walterbird @werehatrack
Hmm well you have the honor of descending from dinosaurs. They don’t. So you have one up on them. They were just lying about feathers because they are jealous that to fly they have to buy actual airline tickets.
@Kyeh @phendrick @Walterbird @werehatrack Pooping on the floor at your age??? You do realize there are good reasons why some species eat their young. Right?
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @phendrick @werehatrack Well the good news is that there are no carpets in the house and I always poop in the same general area around the dining room table.
@Walterbird @werehatrack
Ahem, not all birds are dirty birds
@Kidsandliz @phendrick @Walterbird @werehatrack
TMI, Walter - TMI.
Do I get to blame myself for this “honor”?
@phendrick Why not? We all do…
@phendrick you got the mehrathon back. No shame in that!
@mike808 I think “Goat Stimulator: The Joyful Appliance” might be more interesting. (I’m sure it’s available on Amazon.)
BUT, it’s nice to know that with the cast above, there are some possible stand-ins that might come in for me, if I am injured by the strenuous Goat work.
I don’t know about this blame thing but here’s a baby goat I snuggled last weekend
@Carebear Awww. (I see that’s a woolen blanket, one way or another.)
Unblame: the low pressure system has finally moved out of STL and my three day migraine is gone
/giphy celebrate
@tinamarie1974
@phendrick St Louisans but having beat this damn migraine the term is winner
@tinamarie1974 And you finally are free of it just to get another headache trying, and failing, to get irks.
Seriously though glad you feel better. On that earlier thread you were talking about the botox for them. Has that worked at all?
@Kidsandliz actually it has, I’ve been meaning to go back in that thread and post an update. Got the shots 2/1 and have been averaging 5 migranes a month since. Before I was hitting 10 to 15 a month on meds or daily when I wasnt.
@tinamarie1974 5 is still way too many!!! But glad it has improved some. Has it shortened them any?
@Kidsandliz well, but with botox it takes three treatments to be full strength. I’ve only had one. So actually, going from 10-14 down to 5 with one treatment is amazing.
@tinamarie1974 then that is seriously encouraging!!
Blame! So I live in a crappy neighborhood in a town with the highest murder rate per 100,000 in the nation. I was in the parking lot about 9pm and someone shot my direction 4 times. Fortunately I don’t think they saw me cross the parking lot to get to my car so I hid behind it for ages, quietly calling the police. The bullets hit the building. So eventually I go to the grocery store to get soup and stuff like that since I have pancreatitis and likely c-diff on top of that (good weight loss program, down 8 pounds in a week).
Came back. Pulled into my spot. And I notice a guy in a KN95 with a hoodie pulled up (these masks are sure helping criminals) so I couldn’t see any of his face or even his race between the car next to me and the SUV next to that. He looked like he was planning to break into the SUV (we are having that problem around here for the last couple of weeks). We stared at each other for more than 15 seconds and then he turned and left. I then called the police again (didn’t before as I didn’t want him to see me doing that in case he was the one with the gun before).
Fortunately the security camera saw when I crossed the parking lot so they could pin point when the shooting occurred and when I came back so they could pin point the time to go looking on either side of that for the guy involved in that. And the police now have that info although how you can tell who it is based on how the guy was dressed and disguised is beyond me.
And unblame - at least these two times the police actually showed up in a timely manner. That is not a given around here. Often they don’t show up at all.
Unblame - god only knows how but I got an irk just now. I accidentally timed it just right and no streetlights so that helped.
@Kidsandliz Congrats (on the IRK, not for being shot at; unless you’d like congrats for being missed).
Hypothetical meta-philosophical question: If someone were to kill all the murderers, would the murder rate go up or down?
@phendrick
Congrats for being missed I think. I just came back from picking up the cats. It was really scary to go into that dark parking lot to get to my car and then even more so when I came back since I had to be out there longer to load the wagon.
killers killing killers you’d have an endless supply of murderer’s I’d think, if it was a one to one ratio it would stay the same, if you didn’t get to the killer until they killed more than one then it would go up. Eventually it would go to zero as everyone would be dead. Unless, of course, your hired ones to kill the ones already killing and exempted them from being killed once they killed…
@Kidsandliz Hugs and Hugs for you! That’s some crazy shyt, I’m so sorry. Yay for the IRK.
@Kidsandliz @phendrick
Congratulations on surviving the shooting and for scoring a IRK!
@Kidsandliz
Yeah, I’d say this was a pretty lucky day for you, weirdly enough! Hope it’s a good Irk.
@Lynnerizer @phendrick Updated good news - the security cameras here caught the shooting (so I guess the police can pressure management here to look even though they refused to when a book case was stolen not 12 hours after it was put out for packages to be put on, sigh. Gives one of the thieves who lives here free rein to steal I guess) and also on them was the shooter (and apparently I was really lucky as he was shooting in my general direction) and the guy I saw eyeball to eyeball.
A store in the building across the parking lot from me got broken into then next night and the medical center police caught him in the act (per the store owner) and he had an ankle bracelet on. Hopefully he isn’t a “catch and release” as so many criminals are around here. He was really tall (apparently like 6’ 3 or 4") which matches the one guy caught on several security cameras also breaking into cars immediately around here over the last month or so, but not the guy I saw. That guy was much shorter - maybe 5’ 8".
Last night I had to cross that parking lot in the dark coming and going. Management still hasn’t turned on the streetlights (and I quote, “The parking lot isn’t our problem. That is what you have insurance for.” Umm they own it.) Definitely was scary even though nothing happened.
@Kidsandliz
Ot would be a shame if something happened to management’s vehicles duting an onsite visit and parked in the parking lot.
Because, you know, that’s what they have insurance for, right?
Any help from “attractive nuisance” ordinances?
@mike808 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA you have to be kidding. We are lucky that 911 is even picked up let alone the police coming. Mgt has appropriated parking spaces for themselves that are directly in front of the security cameras. You’d need a serious disguise. These are the cameras they couldn’t be bothered to look at when someone in the building stole the 6’ shelves out by the (inside) mail boxes for packages and we had that timing narrowed down to a 12 hour range. They only looked at them this time around because the police asked them what was on them. Before that they hadn’t bothered. You know they will look if it is their cars.
@Kidsandliz Maybe they will malfunction. It would be a shame if something were to happen in the parking lot because they fail to maintain building security cameras in operating order or they were decoys to start with.
Always insist that actions taken benefit the residents first, not the management or owners. If they refuse, get them on record stating that their priorities are themselves and their personal property and not the residents they claim to when they siphon taxpayer dollars on government contracts. Call the local “You Paid For It” (a STL reporter’s catchphrase) investigative public waste/fraud TV reporter and note the disconnect between the public “mission statements” and contracts they sign to accept government handouts to provide housing.
And one political party has the nerve to talk about getting paid more to not work and living off the government and taxpayers’ backs. Just because they do it doesn’t mean everyone else does. Project much?
Guess which gets more lobbyist money and donations from the landlords and Section 8 management companies? But calling them bribes is just so … unseemly.
@Kidsandliz @mike808 Perhaps the management’s catalytic converters will be heisted in spite of the cameras. If the cops’ success rate in matching imagery to suspects is as good there as it is here, the perps probably treat security cams as open casting audition calls.
@mike808 @werehatrack We are doing really well on the crime front here where I live. Middle of the afternoon today, literally right behind where a machine in the parking lot with a basket had workers in it pressure washing the brick someone broke into a car in (smashed the window) and stole stuff out if it. Seriously brazen. People were right there!
I decided to take everything I valued out of my car just in case. Now my apt has a pile of junk in it as my car was an extension of the garage I don’t have. Mgt said the security camera didn’t have a good enough picture to see who did it.
Blame. A neighbor tells me that someone just bought the house across the street (paid all cash, asking price) and immediately filed for 8 people occupancy in a 4-bedroom house after inquiring about the precise maximum allowed.
Turns out, the new home owner is a lady that owns a landscaping company and she wants her 4 “gay” immigrant brothers who don’t speak a lick of English to live there with their “partners” and they all happen to also work for the “sister” seasonally, so her “brothers” may have different dudes coming and going from the house. Likely the day after the city issues the permit. Then there will like be a change of story in that it is an “Air BnB”/short-term rental. And then some other scam to continue to ignore city ordinances with no consequences.
What’s not to like about new neighbors?
@mike808 Hmm sounds like what happened across the street from where I lived (I rented though) where those home owners built a 10 person bunk house over their garage - making a new second floor) and put up a 10 or 12 foot solid wood fence when the limit was 6’. I’d bet no building permit either. Sucks. All Mexican “friends and family”, all male and all similar ages. Umm ok. Not. Limit was 3 unrelated people in a house. Guess it didn’t count since they weren’t in the house. They were over the garage.
@Kidsandliz @mike808 Well, I’ll take the blame, but what about the HOA, can’t some blame be directed their way? Can they not do something constructive for a change, beyond measuring the height of a mailbox?
@Kidsandliz @phendrick I don’t think there is a HOA any more. The subdivision (in the suburbs) is at least 50 years old.
@Kidsandliz @mike808 The house I bought in the early 90’s was built in the 50’s. At some point in there a HOA had been allowed to go dormant. About 5 years after my purchase, a developer came in, bought some property with an over-sized lot and one residence, and started pulling some crap by trying to put up an additional two houses on it, all for student housing. Some residents decided to fight it and to get deed restrictions enforced, resurrected the HOA, , which is still going (but now does only weakly cosmetic stuff with the (rather low) dues).
My point is, HOAs can come and go; death need not be permanent. Sometimes it just depends on whose lawyers have sharper teeth, not to mention sometimes precedence has great weight. It depends on whether the fight is worth the effort.
@Kidsandliz @phendrick Unfortunately, in STL in the 50s, racism was busily institutionalizing itself permanently across the suburban housing developments through the use of “racial purity covenants” in the HOA agreements and property deeds. So I’m not expecting anything from that time to hold any sway with modern courts because it will expose some ugly truths about White America’s past.
But then again, Critical Race Theory is just a theory, right? Like gravity and science stuff.
@Kidsandliz @mike808
Yeah, we had that kinda crap in our deed restrictions, too. But a clause being unenforceable does not invalidate the whole document. Read any EULA for “separable”.
On the side, a theory is not necessarily a fact. Many “conspiracy theories” abound, for instance. Flat earth, QAnon, alien crop circles, four fundamental elements, etc. A theory is a guess; sometimes more gas than solid; maybe true, maybe not; many times deliberate misinformation. (Not to be conflated with “theorems”, however.)
@mike808 Could there be some human trafficking going on at that house?
@Kyeh That’s the suspicion. The story I was told was the new owners are charging their
workersbrothers “rent” in exchange for not bothering with any sort of employment or residency documents and “handling” any tax paperwork.@mike808 Can you report it to the Human Trafficking Hotline or some place like that?
@Kyeh Anyone can report anything, sure. But so far, there’s no real evidence of any criminal or civil misdeeds. We feed the beast of intolerance too quickly. No reason to send in SWAT, the code enforcement officer, or subpoena anything.
The whole “innocent until proven guilty” and “keep the government out of my business and home” thing we have going here in America applies to everyone. Not just people that look and act like ourselves.
There’s enough fear of “the other” in today’s world that I’m reluctant to join in what is, so far, essentially just gossip. But I won’t turn a blind eye to it, should it become clear that is what is going on.
@mike808
It sure sounds like trafficking, though.
@mike808
Are you in N county? I grew up in Florissant , lived in 7-hills subdivision …
This is most definitely a un-blame! I’m here to say what a pleasure today has been. It’s so nice to have the mehrathon back and to chat away with everyone in the various threads. I really missed it these last few months. I’m sure everyone else missed it just as much, there wasn’t even hardly any complaining. Well way less complaining than usual anyway.
Can’t wait for the reveals when we start getting our irk’s in. I’m curious to see the ratio of truly regrettable ones to truly not regrettable ones.
/giphy happy day!
@Lynnerizer Not to mention the number of deals was sane and during the night people got sleep due to the timing (well some of us, myself included, chose sleep but for those who stayed up)…
@Lynnerizer SO,
I’ve been both blamed and unblamed for the mehrathon!
(Is that one of those “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” things?)
Just all part of the (so far) unpaid job, I guess.
@Lynnerizer @dave Shouldn’t the current GOAT be automatically awarded an IRK, since s/he tends to be too busy accepting blames (and unblames) to keep up with the < two seconds for which an IRK is active? Wouldn’t that be fair?
(Of course, this is part of a Meh life, and you know what they say about life and fair…)
@dave @Lynnerizer @phendrick Awarded an irk? Few of us goats (the first several did) even got the goat trophies we were awarded way back when… I believe the thought since the failed trophy award is the honor is enough?
@dave @Kidsandliz @Lynnerizer Well, that’s pretty meh, indeed.
I guess I’ll lower my expectations. Maybe some goat’s milk fudge?
Blame/unblame. Too busy today to even think about mehrathon or IRKs!
@compunaut You and me both! (Actually, I have thought about them.)
@compunaut @phendrick
Ditto… didn’t even read THESE posts until today. ER has been steady this week, but no COVID patients so far… thank God. Spring has sprung locally so super busy outside when I am not at work.
Priorities suck!
@chienfou @compunaut I’ll be more than happy to accept all the UNBLAME for there being no Covid cases for you (so far… ).
What’s been keeping you busy? (Idiots with cars and/or guns?)
Outside, it’s probably a good idea to wear one of those KN-95s, because of pollen (it’s a nightmare around here – at night I can take my super bright Wuben flashlight, put it on highest, shine it straight up, and it looks like a scene from a dust storm – r u old enough to remember when people smoked in movie theaters, and what cigarette smoke looked like in the projection beam?) If the winds don’t blow, we get accumulations of yellow junk on the cars.
Also, watch your fingers and toes when gardening. Heh. Of course, you’ve probably seen some of that in the ER.
@phendrick
Oddly enough we are seeing a local flu outbreak, saw 5 yesterday. Otherwise, with better weather comes more trauma stuff and less illness stuff. Plus we have had a few days of storms so respiratory flare-ups and injury related to clean up efforts as well.
I got both moles and gophers digging in my yard and leaving piles of dirt. Cost $ 350 for an exterminator to hopefully get rid of them. And that was one of the best things that happened to me in the last two weeks.
@Felton10 did you score an Irk?
@tinamarie1974 Yes I did after much grief. The clock on my desktop was out of sync and didn’t find that out until I compared it to the time on my phone and was 12 seconds off. Couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t get an IRK with 180 a time. Once I synced my computer-got one the next time.
@Felton10 Talprid worms from domyown.com.
Get a box (2-pack of 10 is $50 - still cheaper than big box stores) to start. Push into a tunnel with a screwdriver to keep your scent off of the bait. Repeat as needed. Still cheaper than an exterminator.
All the non-lethal crap does is make them move to your neighbor’s yard and they’ll be back.
Also, using grub control on your yard eliminates their food source to start with.
@mike808 Thanks-Had suggestions from a neighbor who said they were dealing with only moles, but with tax season and all the other shit going on in my life-just didn’t want to deal with it now.
@Felton10 @mike808 Curious. Are exterminators tax deductible? (I think you’ve said you use your home for business?)
@Felton10 I’ll accept the blame for some of that. It’s a wide-spread problem. Apparently the CIA also currently has mole trouble. https://www.theknowledge.com/2021/10/15/is-there-a-mole-in-the-cia/
@mike808 @phendrick I don’t deduct my home office as a tax deduction as Walter’s cage is in the den and the room has to be used exclusively for business and since Walter doesn’t help me, his presence is not business related.
Exterminators can be tax deductible especially if they are treating pests that might get into your office. Little less clear if they are outside pests like mine who might never affect the office.
@Felton10 Why can’t Walter be designated as a workplace support animal to support the emotional well-being of all workplace employees?
You could probably include all of Walter’s maintenenace and upkeep costs as a business expense.
No different than the office break room supplies - coffee, stroopwaffels, etc. or the roombas and janitor services vacuuming the office floors to clean up any spills or messes made by the employees (or support animals) during the course of their activities. Or building maintenance keeping the office furniture (and support animal furniture) well maintained and presentable for a pleasant and safe workplace environment. That includes the emotional safety of the workers, yes?
@mike808 I prefer to not take chances and err on the side of caution as the IRS likes to make an example of CPAs taking questionable deductions.
@Felton10 You mean like Mazars?
@mike808 I’m sure they took more than few given their one particular client.
@Felton10 @mike808 A friend at a Large Company brought an Emotional Support Stuffed Komodo Dragon Plushie to work. He named it Bitey. Much stress relief for multiple parties has been achieved via the excellent services Bitey can provide.
@Felton10 @mike808 OK, thanks for the info.
Not something I had ever thought of before.
You mean there’s something about income taxes that’s not perfectly clear? I’m shocked; shocked, I say.
No doubt, I – and all previous GOATs – need to be blamed for that.
@Felton10
(found this on MorningBrew)
@phendrick FUNNY- Well what should be on there is to correct their mistakes. Had a client call me in a panic this morning-they made a payment for payroll taxes in the amount of 13,606.63. A couple more zeros were added and the IRS took 1,360,663.00 from his account.
Left him with $ 200 and thought someone had robbed him until he noticed the similarity in the numbers. Try getting over a million dollars refunded for the IRS quickly-good luck.
@Felton10 @phendrick Meanwhile it only took 2 days for some clown here in STL to get $ 2.7 Million from the PPP program using 30 different fake companies. Fucker will only serve 10 years and the taxpayers only get 1.2 Million back. Not bad - free room and board for 10 years and keeping $150K per year. That’s not counting the 23 other people he showed how to do their own scams for a training fee, of course.
And Congress (the Republicans mainly, wonder why?) won’t fund the IRS to catch the fraudsters - mainly because they’d catch the fucking congresscritters being on the take red-handed. And they have the nerve to bitch about “defund the police” being clutch-your-pearls madness.
@Felton10 Obviously anyone trained in something even remotely akin to accounting could easily mistake dollars and cents and/or misplace the decimal point by only two places.
“Close enough for government work”?
I don’t think I’m to blame for that. Or am I? I don’t believe any of my previous students went on to the IRS.
Maybe it’s my duty to (re-)teach some math to the Mehtiverse. I’ll put some goat ruminations in on that.
@Felton10 @mike808 Look at all the shining lights on BOTH sides of the aisle:
https://www.govtrack.us/misconduct
(Note the disclaimer that being investigated doesn’t mean they are guilty. And smoke doesn’t always mean fire – just most of the time. And, with Democrats in charge in the House, I actually had expected to see even more instances of Republicans being investigated. )
Can I blame him for the typo in his username in the very first post?
@PooltoyWolf Good catch!
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf It was correct the first time; I guess that’s where I was in shock and quit reading…
GOAT says:
As Governor Over All Thralls, I had intended to put my Divine Right to Rule to use and issue several executive orders to promote the community welfare, and start a new thread today. But I had a minor (though it doesn’t feel such) procedure at my ophthamologist’s today and I am still squinting considerably. (I had an eyelid stitched to take care of an inverted eyelash; anyone want to see pictures?). So I will hold off until tomorrow, or whenever. And you need to hold your bated breath.
When I return, it will be beyond the pale. (The pail of meh?) And worth the price of admission. (My job is to admit to blame.)
@phendrick Hope your eyelid recovers quickly.
@Kidsandliz Thanks. Doesn’t hurt quite as much this morning, but I still woke up earlier than I like. But I can open my eye wider than I have been able to for most of a week (while waiting on the appt.)
Blame to kick upstairs: The current item (the Omega MeGo blender) got posted without a “more details” page or a forum thread. depriving @YakkoTDI of his customary gritty opening snark opportunity, among others. And it looks like a discarded poll from yesterday got autoposted today instead. Sleepbody’s asome swat the itch.
@werehatrack Well,@yakkoTDI seems to be asleep too.
@Kyeh @werehatrack @yakkoTDI
perhaps ‘he’ is a bot that only triggers if the item actually posts.
/giphy nah
@werehatrack Well, instead of being first, maybe @yakkoTDI can be the last to post on the thread you opened about that!
We need a little more symmetry on these forums (I still want to say “fora”).
Blame - @ExtraMedium said this about his forum game:
Well, instead it’s so popular that I can’t get it to load anymore. Can you start a second thread, maybe? Could our goat nudge you to do that?
@Kyeh
Done!
https://meh.com/forum/topics/forum-driving-game-2
@chienfou Yeah! I saw that, thanks!
I tried to post something about an hour ago but my damn internet was being glitchy.
Blame- my dads biopsy came back positive for oral cancer he just passed the six year mark of being cancer free from his throat cancer last year. I don’t think he could handle the operation after the one he went through from throat cancer and his quality of life is already so poor that I don’t know it would even be worth it. It might just be better to live with the cancer and enjoy the time we have. We meet with the cancer team hopefully next week bc of how aggressively fast the cancer is growing to find out all of our options.
@Star2236 So sorry to hear that. Been there with my dad, too. Sending you a warm, virtual hug, star
/giphy carebear
Sorry @Star2236, just terrible
/giphy ghost hug
@Star2236 So difficult - I’m really sorry.
@Star2236
Carpe Diem. Now is the time to cement those memories you have and make new ones to help you (both) thru this. Cherish the time.
/giphy ghost hug
@Star2236 So sorry to hear that. I’ll be thinking of you and your family over this Easter season.
Both of my parents had multiple bouts with multiple types of cancer before dying from it (skin, colon, and finally lung for my father and colon and stomach for my mother), but both made it to their late 80s. Naturally I figure that’s in my genes eventually so have been taking extra care to watch for it. No signs yet My issues so far have been with heart problems that neither of them had and I developed in my 50s. Go figure.
Prayers and hugs .
@Star2236 That is so sad. Especially hard after all those years of being in remission. Don’t know who he is using but it might be worth a second opinion from MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston to see what options they feel are worth it and that he might find tolerable if he isn’t already using a top 10 facility. If you tell them you are from out of town they will cram everything together in as few days as humanly possible. Also they have no problem with people doing second opinions, including biopsy second opinions (twice mine have changed somewhat with them looking at the biopsied tissue and redoing the readings) or having them direct traffic but all treatment is local (how I did it/am doing it with my 3 cancers).Truly sucks for him, for your family… I am sorry everyone is having to go through this heartbreak and new emotional earthquake.
Blamo-wamo-lamo. Tis your fault, ENTIRELY, and I don’t wanna hear differently, that I can’t seem to get to work on time. I set multiple alarms, for every step in my morning routine, to no avail. Shower, breakfast, dog walk, attempt a human-like visage with multiple tools and shmearing paints, goo in hair, blow dry, God, it’s all so exhausting and my apathy sets in as I drive the 14.6 miles to the office, knowing I won’t make it on time, yet somehow seething with rage at you, @phendrick, for my inevitable failure at punctuality. Why must you make me fail so epically every g-d day?! I blame you, and only you.
@GrandmaLyn Well, heck, I can’t duck that blame, especially since you probably got those habits from me. (I’ve always had issues with waking when necessary and I don’t go through all that rigmarole you mentioned. My response to alarm clocks has been pitiful. In the USAF I even got a Letter of Reprimand/Counseling in my permanent file – I don’t remember which, the other was for too many driving points) for getting to work too late too many times. In my younger days, I slept through fire trucks responding to the fire in the building across the street from my bedroom window! My wife was overjoyed I got to our wedding on time! (I had been warned.)
Just tell your boss to contact me, and l will explain your value otherwise. Cleanliness is next to Godliness, not punctuality.
@GrandmaLyn @phendrick
Y’all both need to file for disability due to being chronologically challenged.
@GrandmaLyn @mike808 @phendrick
Blame it on DST!
Wait, maybe that could be PDST!
@chienfou @mike808 @phendrick
Oh, yes, I’m gonna steal that. Next time someone asks me to their wife’s boyfriend’s cousin’s gender reveal party, I’m just gonna be like. Nah, sorry, man, I got PDST, can’t make it.
@chienfou @GrandmaLyn @mike808 And then there’s the sign that was in my ophthalmologist’s office:
@phendrik
Fuck. Just fuck. In our backyard. Twice in three days. Saturday morning (we let him out) and this morning. I said Saturday as he ran off across the street “if he comes back, we’ll keep him”.
Strange cats in our backyard are not common (the fence is pretty hard to navigate, it keeps our cats in).
Dumped or abandoned. Putting out found cat messages.
I blame you on this.
Friendly as hell. Not fixed. Some sort of eye infection. And his urine is super charged smelly. Waiting for the vet’s office to open. We will call him “Simon”.
@lisaviolet I assume you already know about the vocal capabilities and proclivities that often come as Extra Features with a 'Meese…
@werehatrack Yes. We have some older cats who are vocal, probably because they’re going deaf.
So far, things are pretty smooth. Ike did get a xanax this morning because he has issues.
But this guy is pretty laid back. We have a 4:30 appointment for a check up and testing for disease. Then we’ll set up a neuter appointment. And if owners come forward? Tough shit. You don’t let unneutered cats roam. You just don’t do it.
Well, you don’t let cats roam, period. Not around here, too dangerous.
@lisaviolet Same here. They aren’t super-common yet, but we have coyotes in the area, plus loads of aggressive raccoons and some next-to-feral dogs. And that’s why none of ours go out. Fortunately, none of the current bunch wants to try.
@werehatrack We’ve had one cat in all these years (fence was modified in Jan 1994) return to the yard more than once. A feral. He was able to leave the yard as well as get in. Never figured out how. We were set to trap and fix him, he left one night and we never saw him again.
This was the first time we’ve had a friendly return.
I couldn’t find him, worried that he got out (not because he got out, but if he got out, so could the other cats, which hasn’t happened in forever, but the tree trimming last month caused some damage to the barrier at the top of the fencing), thankfully, Brian found him behind the dog house on the bank.
@lisaviolet @werehatrack Simon is a pretty boy – I’m glad he found someone who is looking out for him.
@lisaviolet Must be your cat nip bait Nice pond by the way.
@Kidsandliz It is so strange to me that in all of the time we’ve had this fence up (Jan 1994) that there has only been one cat that got in more than once. Just one in almost thirty years.
I told Brian this afternoon I wouldn’t doubt someone is putting him over. It’s doable. Not easy, but it’s doable.
Yeah, the pond…he finally got the plumbing properly fixed so for the first time in years, it will be swimable this summer. But no shade, which sucks.
@Kidsandliz @lisaviolet It definitely sounds like you’ve been cat-bombed. He’s a beautiful creature; and a lucky one, now that’s he’s been taken into the family!
OK. Blame accepted. (Do I get unblamed, if you decide he is really a good kitty? And I guess I will also accept the blame from old Tom, I’m sure he will be full of blame for the neutering.)
Been finalizing my tax return. Feel like IRS is trying to neuter me.
@phendrick He is a good kitty. Unblame for that.
Simon has some pretty strong urine. It hits you walking in front of our shop and in the entry way. My husband actually hosed the entry way (it’s more decorative than anything else, nothing fancy, just the way the house was built, a U shape, garage on one side, bedroom on the other, then the front door is the bottom of the U, with a wrought iron fence and gate from the garage side to the bedroom side) this morning. We have a fountain and a bunch of ivy and the smell could have knocked you over.
I’m sure old Tom would agree. I mean, there’s some reason Nooby and Ike are not being as territorial as they were with Natasha when she joined us. But she was pretty pregnant, so there’s that.
BLAME!!! Yesterday they cut down all the trees in front of the building I live in. Unfortunately a bird’s nest was in one with eggs in it. Makes me sad. Poor babies and mama bird. Every year a bird built a nest in that tree.
They plan to cut down the rest of the trees (beautiful mature trees) in the back yard as they said they have trees on their properties. I hope a ton of leaves blow in the back yard from the backdoor neighbors this fall. They also removed all the beautiful rose bushes that seem to bloom much of the year. Based on the size of the trunks left behind they were old. All we have left is dirt as they pulled out every plant. Looking at street view photos of other properties they own they don’t do much landscaping. It looks like they mostly cement over everything. Assholes.
@Kidsandliz
That’s absolutely criminal!
In this age of climate change we’re supposed to be planting MORE trees. Nice way for them to observe Earth Day. Assholes indeed.
@Kyeh I do wonder just how grim it will look with no trees since they don’t want any on any of their properties. No shade anymore either sitting outside either in the deep south hot summers. Sigh.
@Kidsandliz Horrible!!!
Unblame. Procrastinated way longer than I should have and then had a marathon session but got grades in on time. Good thing too as this adjunct gig depends on their whim at the time of course assignment.
Unblame. Found a new use for those $35
vibratorspercussion massagers… cleaning the floor carpets of the car.@mike808 while I can see how that would be effective for carpet cleaning. Not sure you are using vibrators correctly
@mike808 @unksol For the removable mats, I use the pressure washer - judiciously!
Fuck. Blame.
Some mouth-breathing ignoramus sprayed me with COVID and now it looks like the home test says I’m positive. Some dumb MF just couldn’t keep their shit to themselves. Selfish ahole.
Thank the scientists and health professionals for creating the vaccine and the current administration for getting it into my body. I now won’t cost the taxpayers and everyone else paying health insurance premiums a fortune and I won’t need a ventilator.
So far, just a splitting headache when I woke up, a little ache-iness, and an occasional scratchy dry cough. Weirdly, where I got my boosters was tender, like it got activated or something. I think I have a mild temperature, but with my diurnal rhythm and acetaminophen kicking in, it’s hard to say.
May it continue to be mild and self-treatable. Will know more tomorrow if it gets worse and I’m definitely getting a lab test from the local pharmacy to confirm. The CDC only tracks reported lab tests, as home tests are unreliable. So I’m sure there’s a shit-ton of underreporting and denial from the morons that think if you don’t get tested, you can’t get covid.
@mike808 Dude. Now is the time to CTFO, this is truly the healthiest thing to do. Give yourself the day off with light duty on everything. I had a similar mess fall on me back in the last week of December, and being multiply vaxed, came through with less symptoms than I generally got from The Con Crud. Go - back to bed, or to the recliner, or the couch, or the warm sunny spot by the window - and do likewise. Just don’t give it to the cat if you can help it.
@werehatrack PCR Lab test today. Check. Contributing to CDC reporting.
Feel pretty much the same. Took some Delsym (12-hour DM (aka Robutussin). Shit’s like magic. 12 hours of no hacking cough. Can live with that. Although have to watch the overdosing on DM. Thinking is a little fuzzy, but more low-energy than anything else. Drippy nose. Loratidine (aka Claritin) should have stopped that, but I’m thinking the Fluticasone (aka Flonase) is just not up to clearing the congestion from the Alt-Right Con Crud.
Mild aches, but Acetominophen (aka Tylenol) is taking care of that and keeping my temperature down. I’m sure I’m running a mild fever. I feel hot, but the temps say normal. Hopefully gone by the weekend.
Now when I’m getting stares in Target, I pull my mask down and ask “Why yes, I do have Covid. Would you like me to cough on you directly instead?” Missouri is full of dumbassery and red-state stochastic terrorism with convicted former governer Greitens and Senate hopeful tweeting from the gun range about his “Final Solution” for owning the libtards to be even more fascist and racist than Josh Hawley.

@mike808 @werehatrack
That’s why they say you should quarantine at home…
Hope you have fully recovered and don’t have any ligering CoViD related issues.
@chienfou @werehatrack You’re clearly not from Missouri by not understanding how fucked up the situation is here in the Ultra-MAGA heartland.
@mike808 @werehatrack
My bad… I mis-read what you said and thought you said you went while you were still contagious (damn that present tense…)
As for being from Missouri, I was born and raised there and made the choice to be “from” there at the first opportunity after I graduated from HS.
Of course, I ended up in Alabama so…
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@chienfou @werehatrack
Well, you’re in Alabama, so all is forgiven. Bless your heart.
@chienfou @mike808 @werehatrack At least you didn’t end up in MS. Just sayin’.
@chienfou @Kidsandliz @werehatrack
LOL

@chienfou @Kidsandliz @werehatrack
Kidding aside, at least Pearl and Richland (along 49, just southeast of Jackson) have the cheapest gas in the country for some reason. Southaven ain’t bad on gas prices either, even though its part of the Memphis metro area and has a FedEx air hub next door.
I feel your pain, @Kidzandliz. Here in Misery, they think there’s a prize in the race to the bottom.
Found you. When they hide the thread its hard to blame.
I blame you for all of April being cold and wet and rainy. Except for last Saturday. Where I FINALLY got something done. But not this
Yes that is a 60 or 70 foot black walnut parked across my back yard and… No it didn’t really matter and yes I have a chain saw. But it was 30 degrees yesterday. And this entire month is crunch time on central time. So no time to deal with anything.
IDK how you did it but it’s your fault
@unksol @phendrick
Blame for Indiana getting all the moisture that Colorado didn’t get - April is supposed to be our snowiest month! The mountains did get snow, but the front range got none, and very little rain so far.
@Kyeh @phendrick idk if we got your moisture but you can have it. Wet and cold is not pleasant. Below freezing yesterday. It’s almost may. Booooo
@unksol Rats! I wish I lived nearby, I’d volunteer to bring the chain saw over and cut that into lathe-turning sections. Black walnut, oooohhh…
@phendrick @unksol I’ll take the cold and rain over fire risk any day.
“Little Fires Everywhere” is not a TV show here, it’s reality.
@werehatrack IDK know if it’s any good its been standing dead for a few years but I would rather give it to a craftsman than turn it into fire wood. Alas I’m anti social. Still might try and find someone. It is a shame to waste good wood.
@unksol Might still be useful. Hard to say until you start to cut; if it’s heavily checked or has started to rot, maybe not. But black walnut is still part of the same family with pecan and hickory, and makes excellent smoking wood when not of a useful grade for cabinetry.
@werehatrack doesn’t seem to be rotted. Might buck it to 8 foot sections for now so I can mow then ask around. IDK.
@werehatrack looks pretty good actually. The fungus/growth is all in the bark from what I have been able to see. I had to cut probably 12 16-20 inch rounds just so I could mow around it. Probably about to the middle. No rot.
If you happen to know any woodwork forums maybe I could poke around. Maybe find someone in the area. Not trying to sell it. That bottom half can end up on the pile too but I know there are some better uses. We have a lot of Amish around here too but IDK how to tell them hey would you like some free wood
It will at least get it’s own stack it I have to buck/split it all as the “good” stuff for smoking etc.
Unblame - someone put up this sign somewhere in my state:
