Goat Day 20: Thank Glen It's Friday
2Hello folks, welcome to Day 20. We're a little late today because I had to run some errands and stuff. Plus the NCAA Tournament is going on. Not many upsets so far today, which kind of makes the tournament a bore, doesn't it? My boys, the Dayton Flyers, play tonight around 10pm Eastern Time against the Providence Friars. It's a Marianist School (UD) versus a Franciscan School (Providence). Society of Mary FTW!
ODDS & ENDS
I'm not making this my daily question, but I'll ask anyway... When do you wash your car during the winter? I was going to take it to the car wash today, but I decided against it because snow was in the forecast. When is the sweet spot? I don't want to wait until April, but I also don't want to do it and then get more salty and dirt on it from the treated road. It's a balancing act, you know?
Got my Netgear Router today. Now I just have to figure out how to make it a repeater. I found instructions online and it's 15 damn steps. Why does it need to be so complicated? Just hit a switch and be done with it!
I also wore my Mediocre Socks today. They are rather adequate. They may last about a month or two. Good job Meh. Now I want to buy a shit-ton of them.
TODAY'S DEAL
I'm proud someone in the product thread for the Ooma did the "Oprah, Ooma" joke.
I'm one of the few people who really enjoyed Letterman hosting the Oscars in 1995. It was really good. I think there are people who are afraid to laugh. Besides, it led to two high water mark moments:
Best moments of the night. Now watch these and say Letterman was worse than Neil Patrick Harris...
I've always wanted to try an Ooma, but I have no need for one, as I have a cell phone and don't really need a landline.
TODAY'S QUESTION
I lied... When should you get a car wash?
Until tomorrow, LET'S GO FLYERS! CLAP, CLAP, CLAP-CLAP-CLAP!

@Billlehecka if that is your real name. You should get a car wash living in the northeastern part of the US any time that it's snowed and then you get a chance to not get it frozen on. I don't have a protected place to put my vehicle, so I have to wait for it to be above freezing. But I get one whenever the following happen:
It's too darn hot and I want to cool down
Calm the baby (only happened once and he got scared then Giggled like he was watching Irk
Wash off salt
Car is visibly dirty and clothing has the always rubbed against my car look.
If my wife was to answer it would say, every other week, no exceptions.
I've got to do the Router project this weekend also, I'm hoping it's not going to cause issues and I've worked with DDWRT before so If I do it I'm ready... if not I'll blame you! :P
Are you ready to not be goat anymore?
Wash the car in winter after driving on salted roads every reasonable chance you get when above freezing and you're able to avoid melt (the run-off is full of salt) - use a car wash that has a GOOD undercarriage wash / rinse cycle. However, if you park in a heated garage, you can wash it in subfreezing temps and drive it home to the garage and park it overnight - all will be well. If you have to park outside, you have limited options, things will freeze up and you're stuck. Road salt kills cars. This is why I like the States that use beet juice / sand. Better for the cars and the roads, just can't use it all the time. Your car and your pocketbook will thank you for keeping it clean.
Unless you are driving a piece of shit, in which case, wait for it to rain and you're good to go.
Should have said beet juice / sand WITH the salt - the beet juice makes the salt less corrosive. Some states use molasses and cheese brine. Pickle juice and some potato mixes work well also. Funny the things the DOT will spray on the road . . . Pickle brine works to temps lower than salt, and is safer for your own driveway / sidewalks.
I had to wash mine this week because the asshole lawn service for the building here at work sprayed fertilizer on the grass while the wind was blowing and coated my car and those around mine - which I blame you for @BillLehecka!
I try to run it through the wash whenever I know the doors won't freeze shut. In past winters I've done it about every 4 weeks - this winter that was practically impossible, so Tuesday was the first wash since probably Oct/Nov.
@tinkertime Gal a few doors down from my office has a tree service that does this all the time. I started sending the tree service the bill for the hand-wash afterwards. Remarkably, they paid it - and they still do, although now they're a bit more careful regarding the wind when they apply.
@Pavlov I thought about sending them the bill but I didn't think about it until after I had already gone through the wash and didn't get a receipt. But you give me hope so if it would happen again, I'll be sure to do that!
why would I want a car wash? Just what I'd need more IOT crap. Car Wash damn goat pain'n da ass. IOT bullshit Azure this suckers damn shit
It's been ridiculously cold this winter - so don't feel too bad about not getting it washed during snow season. It's supposed to rain and snow over the next week, so you may want to wait another week to get it washed. But once it's above freezing for more than a day or 2, you should get it done.
