I can understand takeout pizza being popular, but I tend to really enjoy baking a frozen pizza. Just the whole experience is fun. Preheating the pizza, unwrapping it, excitedly smelling it bake for 12 minutes, then slicing and enjoying.
Yes, a kitchen-made pizza from some nice place is probably going to be better pizza, but I know what I like.
Sushi’s usually pretty reliable, and travels fairly well. And you don’t have to worry about it staying hot in transport! I’ve found some cuisines, including Mexican and Indian don’t travel too well, and if a pizza has been in a cardboard box for more than 15 minutes it’s doomed…
While pizza is a close second for takeout and greek for eating at the restaurant (tho not since March 2020), we generally end up eating at or from 57’s All American Grill (again, not at since March 2020).
While sushi, indian, thai, shaolongbao, soon tofu, pho, italian and many other things are quite tasty as well, the girlfriend unit generally prefers what she considers to be comfort food and I’m not all that picky most of the time.
@Cerridwyn I’m kind of curious now. Thanks for sharing! Panera’s chicken noodle soup is awesome, btw (at least in NJ, NY, MD, MA, and DC. I might have a problem, haha).
We have bad Mexican and bad Italian restaurants all over town. The only good takeout is this one Chinese/Japanese place. The better restaurants are in the next city over, but 30 minutes each way doesn’t make for takeout.
Typically, I only do takeout from something I cannot make myself or is too much of a pain in the ass to make. Nothing on that list meets those criteria. Especially since I discovered the 2 ingredient pizza dough. For anyone interested:
Chinese is by far my comfort blanket and always first choice. Had it a lot growing up and it was always special. If I could I’d probably get something every day, so its probably better I can’t.
@PocketBrain
that made me think of a 3 panel cartoon I saw in the Pensacola Beach paper years ago:
Panel one: Male rat to female rat: “What’s for supper?”
Panel two: Female rat with lettuce flying all over the place
Panel three: Female rat: “Seizure salad…”
The two good/great BBQ places near us closed up this past year, killed by the lockdowns. We have a great Mexican place (taco Mexican), the second best Chinese takeout place ever, and a really good pizza place that are close. Ramen is about 5 miles away and we still do takeout sometimes. There’s a chicken restaurant with takeout that is amazing near work so I bring it home sometimes.
If I had to pick one, it would be the Chinese takeout; we tend to pick that for special occasions, birthdays, etc.
All of the above, you insensitive clods.
@Evansdoor My waistline resembles that.
Mexican, Indian, pizza or burgers.

@Bandrik Frozen pizza has come a long way! That’s our Friday night ritual.
@Bandrik @callow Bake-it-yourself pizza from Papa Murphy’s
I’m lazy, I prefer Wait-for delivery instead of Go-to takeout.
Sub sandwiches, piled high.
@hchavers Especially since Jersey Mikes’s eliminated dine-in!
@curtw4 @hchavers Eating a Jersey Mike’s Original Italian (“piled high” as in extra meat) as we speak, delivered by DoorDash.
Ribs and chicken/mashed potato eggrolls.
And pho.
Fish and chips.
BBQ ribs or a middle eastern platter from Garbanzo.
And I just discovered that the Garbanzo here in town has permanently closed!!!

@pmarin That looks good! Do they deliver to Dallas?
@pmarin Asheville has some great places to eat. My daughter went to college there and we visited a lot.

Takeout, shmakeout…
If they won’t bring it to me, I’ll just make it at home.
@2many2no This is the exact way I would describe how I feel when using Tinder.
@rogerbacon Ummm, yeah, but you can’t eat that.
@2many2no @rogerbacon … I mean…
Bojangles’ fried chicken…
Cheesesteaks, hoagies, and strombolis! Or a combination there of.
If anyone knows a better chain restaurant for chicken noodle soup than Panera, please share!
@njfan

Cause well, here at least, Panera’s sucks
