As Kyeh just said-you asked this recently. I think I said I avoid the restaurants and bring some snacks. If we use our once a year United lounge pass we eat what we think will be OK on the flight. Try not to test our memories by asking this again soon, please. TIA.
@andyw I very rarely get to fly, so it’s a special treat for me. I’ve also never had a bad experience in an airport or on a plane. (Plus, it helps that I’m a massive avgeek. LOL)
@kittykat9180 I wouldn’t know about that! They feed us in the back, also, but it is not great. But this question really addresses what to do while waiting for your flight, or between flights.
@kittykat9180 Those of us in the back do not “get” a full meal. We “get” to buy a snack (sometimes they are not too bad) at inflated prices. If they were giving me a real meal, I would not buy things in the airport either. As it is, I rarely buy more than a bag of chips while waiting.
@phendrick@PooltoyWolf Are they still admonishing the rest of us to not be evil like they are, or have they conceded that we can now just go ahead and be as evil as we damn well please?
@phendrick@shahnm Oh I know all about DDG but I’m very content to use Google. I’ve been using their services for almost two decades and don’t feel the least bit unhappy or unsafe with them. Honestly not a fan of DDG’s advertising that seems to suggest the mainstream search company is out to get you.
@phendrick@PooltoyWolf It’s not that they’re out to get you. It’s that they’re out to know everything about you, and sell/market/monetize that information in whatever ways are most profitable for them. That transaction isn’t the end of the world if what you get in return feels like fair trade for what they want to know about you. The problem is that the product/service they provide at this point isn’t necessarily an honest response to the information you ask for, but rather targeted marketing and monetization based upon what they know about you…
@PooltoyWolf Some of us regard “McDonalds” and “tasty” as mutually exclusive. (At least for any of their menu items claiming to contain beef.) (And as for me in particular, I dare not eat their deep-fried foods because of their predilection for using a canola blend in the fryers.)
@werehatrack You know what, I thought for a long while and initially was not going to respond to this, but I decided to say something. I’m so tired of people chiming in to tell me how they dislike my food choices nearly every time I say what I like to eat. It’s okay to not like something, but it’s grating and tedious to hear it every time I dare to say I like it.
My wife and I ate at Friday’s in DFW in May because nothing else was open. It was horrible. Actually, everything about DFW was horrible. I will never fly through there again.
@SSteve DFW is awful. I had a flight cancellation that turned a 3 hour layover into something like 19 hours, and I wrangled a flight to… Phoenix? I think? Rather than stay in that strip mall hell.
After spending a year on the road, flying around for my company, I found places worth eating in at most major airports on the east coast. I stick with them when I travel, although that is almost never since Covid.
My baby sister, who travels extensively all over the world for her job, swears by this one and eats there every time she’s passing through ATL: https://oneflewsouthatl.com/
I wait for the free food on the flight. I’m not a picky eater, so will be happy with it, and eat a reasonable quantity. However, if I were to buy what I really like in the airport, I’d eat more and regret it when I got on the scales.
@romellex The flights I take tend to have at most a packaged snack. The only flights where I’ve been served something resembling a meal were very long, to and from New Zealand.
@werehatrack Yeah, pretty much my experience, but that just makes me honestly say “Thank You” to the flight attendant and appreciate that packaged snack. I do have to admit I’m a sort of average sized female, so that one-size-fits-all snack is more filling for me than for folks needing more.
Airplanes!
You already asked this question recently.
As Kyeh just said-you asked this recently. I think I said I avoid the restaurants and bring some snacks. If we use our once a year United lounge pass we eat what we think will be OK on the flight. Try not to test our memories by asking this again soon, please. TIA.
@andyw Someone doesn’t like airports and flying! (Not meant to be rude, just an honest observation.)
@andyw @PooltoyWolf Is there anyone who does like them?
@andyw @brainmist You’re speaking with one!
@PooltoyWolf That is not rude at all and it is a correct observation. I used to like flying, but now it is only barely tolerable.
@andyw I very rarely get to fly, so it’s a special treat for me. I’ve also never had a bad experience in an airport or on a plane. (Plus, it helps that I’m a massive avgeek. LOL)
They often feed you in first class
@kittykat9180 I wouldn’t know about that! They feed us in the back, also, but it is not great. But this question really addresses what to do while waiting for your flight, or between flights.
@andyw, why would I eat at the airport when I’m going to get a full meal on the plane?

@andyw, understandable, airport prices are high. I was just posting my answer to the poll question. I am only speaking for myself, not everyone.
@kittykat9180 I understand.
@kittykat9180 What is this “first class” of which you speak?
SkyClub or related lounge. BIRM…
@shahnm ‘BIRM’?
@PooltoyWolf “But I Repeat Myself” - in this case, because it’s the same answer I gave last time this poll question came up…
@shahnm Haven’t heard that Internet abbreviation yet.
@PooltoyWolf HHTIAY!
@shahnm Google doesn’t even recognize that one…yet. we created it, right here.
@PooltoyWolf @shahnm Google is close to my last choice of search engine.
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=HHTIAY+internet+abbreviation&ia=web
Their main focus is on monetizing.
@PooltoyWolf GDRTOYWCIRH!!
@phendrick @PooltoyWolf Are they still admonishing the rest of us to not be evil like they are, or have they conceded that we can now just go ahead and be as evil as we damn well please?
@PooltoyWolf @shahnm Exactomundo.

Admiral’s Club!!!
Given its ubiquity in major airports, its tasty food, and its affordability, McDonald’s every time.

And they had 2 TGIs. In one terminal.
TWO.
@SSteve Love Field is a lot better. At least they kicked out the McDonalds and got a Whataburger
Lounge and first class, baby!
Anywhere with alcohol!
After spending a year on the road, flying around for my company, I found places worth eating in at most major airports on the east coast. I stick with them when I travel, although that is almost never since Covid.
Nowhere, I’m too cheap to pay airport prices.
Airline clubs for free booze and food
I peruse the menus and see if anything sounds good.
My baby sister, who travels extensively all over the world for her job, swears by this one and eats there every time she’s passing through ATL: https://oneflewsouthatl.com/
She particularly prefers the salmon … fyi.
Whatever I’ve stashed in my carry-on. Likely PB and Nutella on tortillas. It travels well.
Cinnabon
