The actual “normal” temperature of 98.6F is the F version of when a German doctor, Dr. Carl Wunderlich, took the temperature of around 25,000 patients and rounded up to 37C. Current research indicates that the actual “normal” average temperature around 97.5-97.9F. He used a foot long thermometer back then and took people’s temperature in their armpit. It is kind of cool that he took so many of them to get his average.
Here is a free link to an article in the NY Times that discusses, in general, this issue. I first read about this in several research articles and The NY Times article, while not a complete summary of what is out there, is a decent article that talks about the issues.

WOW! What a wonderful song and a GREAT way to start my birthday! It’s so happy and uplifting, and with so many meanings! Interesting how the degree symbol got left out so the title just became 98.6. I don’t know how I hadn’t heard of this little gem of a song earlier, HBD TO ME! https://sonichits.com/video/Keith/98.6
@Kyeh
Thanks Kyeh! I’m looking forward to dinner with my family tonight. We’ve been celebrating my birthday and mother’s day together forever, that’s my favorite part of having a birthday today!
(Between you and me…
I WAS kinda looking forward to a mother’s day Meh-rathon.)
@Lynnerizer Happy personal new year! Incendiate the fiber-cored wax cylinders atop the thermocongealed emulsion of pulverized botanical reproductive units, saccharides, avian ovule extract, and assorted oleates! Bask in the performance of the arcane incantations! Wantonly flay the decorative obfuscational coverings from the tribute offerings!
