Well, I have yet to find anyone who can specifically tell me WHY the Phantom 1.1.1 is "better" than a CX20 (or if it really is) other than it will get here faster. I've read as much as I can but I think I'm too new to the quad scene to really understand at this point. That CX20 seems to have some pretty cool features and the parts are less than half. At $224.00 I guess I could add one later. Wait...that would put me at 3 quads?!? lol
@aviator172 Coming from the guy that strongly recommended the CX-20 to you, the same guy who has ranted ad nauseam in this forum instilling the virtues of the CX-20 to anyone that would listen, the same guy that owns both CX-20 and Phantom v1.1.1... FOR THE PRICE... you got the better bird.
The fit and finish of the overall build is better on the Phantom. The quality of materials, components, fuselage, accessories... all are all better on the Phantom. The battery charger you get with the Phantom is SO much better than the one that comes with the CX-20. The two sets of rotors included with the Phantom are superior in quality to the one set of rotors included with the CX-20 (in fact, I use Phantom rotors when I fly the CX-20). The smoothness of flight and hover are better on the Phantom.
So why didn't I just recommend a DJI Phantom in the first place? Well, price for one. At $350 or more for a P1, the CX-20 is a better value at $100 lower price point. The open source APM flight controller in the CX-20 is more capable and more flexible than the NAZA-M AS IT'S EQUIPPED IN THE Phantom 1. The ability to fly autonomous missions right out of the box gives CX-20 an advantage over Phantom 1. As does one additional radio channel in the TX and RX. CX-20 holds it's GPS location closer than Phantom. Phantom tends to wash around in the TBE (toilet bowl effect) making 6 or 8 foot circles. Smooth circles, sure, but circles none the less. CX-20 sticks within a foot or two in Loiter mode.
But once the price point for the Phantom drops to $275... well now the price difference is $25, not $100. The advantages of the Phantom start to outweigh the few advantages of the CX-20 once price point is removed from the equation. Particularly when you consider that most people won't ever use the autonomous mission capability of the CX-20.
All that said... I'd still recommend a CX-20 now that you can't find another new-in-box Phantom for $275.
OMG I posted the same thing! I didn't see your post..
