Sucky. Absolutely sucky. Wouldn’t work for me since I keep my phone in a Lifeproof case, and those little suction grip thingies just don’t work on the case…I’ve tried…it was tragic
@sammydog01 I did. I had some beer at a hockey game, was eating a burger and drinking a milkshake. Then these popped up, and I’ve been looking for something like this to make it easier to watch hockey while driving, and Netflix while working. In for 1 suction, and 1 pad.

When I got past my teen years I remember hearing that a man is only as good as his word. I don’t blame Meh for any of this. I blame the person who called himself a man because we now know how good his word isn’t. I’m sorry the backers were screwed over! Nobody should ever have to deal with that. I say that the blame goes to the person who screwed over the backers and the other people of integrity on this site. They could have kept it on the down low and not say a word instead the moment it was discovered on Amazon they posted it immediately to let us all know what happened I am grateful for their honesty. Not to mention a very embarrassing nerve racking situation. I’m still gonna stick around for one reason and that is how they care about us. @chandlermock Your trust? Did you not read the write up? They only told exactly what happened with the Kickstarter. How duplicitous! As others have said zero reviews from confirmed buyers… some very angry Kickstarter people that took a risk and got burned. All of which Meh was upfront about. Smh
Real gekko feet are self cleaning. As the feet peal off the surface they bend each little pad enough to pop off whatever it is stuck too.
These things don’t bend, so they can never let go. If they were as strong as a real gekko it would take 3,000 pounds of force to get your phone off the pad. So they are definitely weaker.
Whatever strength they do have will hold onto dust and dirt as soon as it touches it.
@hamjudo I have a different nanosuction mount. When the pads start losing their suction, I use a piece of packing tape to clean them and they’re good as new.
Willing to give it a shot. I have a nano suction phone stand that I got a couple of years ago, and it works great with the case I have on my current phone. With the last phone, not so much.
@narfcake indeed. Our daughter initially tutored full time and continues to tutor on the side. Presumably to help Chinese kids, and sometimes adults, learn English.
She often observes parents seem to have little interest in the “English” part. Rather, they see learning American culture and norms to be far more valuable. She earned triple what Chinese English tutors earned and her parent-clients sought her out even when she changed tutoring companies.
So on Wednesday, you docked the inkjet printer folks for using a lower case ‘i’; now you’re knocking these guys for an upper case “I”. Moral of the story is don’t use an “I/i” in your model numbers or risk humiliation by Meh.
Anyone that sells, and/or buys these with the knowledge of their history are scumbags, if indeed, they were produced fraudulently. They condone and perpetuate the shady practice of the maker of these stands, and, in the case of the seller… just to make a few bucks? Some people sell their integrity cheap. Sometimes, I just don’t understand people, or…maybe I do…and, no I wasn’t a backer.
@werekong If I were to boycott every product that originated from a company or producer I had reason to object to, I’d own a lot less crap. That wouldn’t be a bad thing.
But as to your observation – is there no point at which the connection between the original producer and the ultimate purchaser becomes so attenuated that the stink comes off the product, to your thinking? It would seem not. For me, it’s far enough down the line that I can’t see the evil in buying it.
That said, I would never buy a used Hitler-Mobile. That would be a bridge too far for me. So maybe I’m just a hypocrite.
@InFrom If there was a point, where would it be?..twice removed, is that good enough to absolve you from guilt? 5 times removed? 10 times?..whose to say? My answer is that if you are aware of the history, that justifies a boycott. If a stolen car is bought, it doesn’t matter if you are the first, or tenth person that bought it, it was still a stolen car. Further, if you were aware that it was stolen, you are an accomplice, after the fact.
@werekong I don’t know. I see your point, but in this case Meh bought these from someone who was stuck with them and needed to unload them to cut their losses. The scammer has already turned his profit, and isn’t getting anything from Meh’s transaction or from our transaction with Meh. Assuming there is no direct benefit for the person who originally did wrong, that’s far enough removed to me. (I guess that would mean I could buy a Hitler-mobile if I wanted to).
If every product that had someone shady involved with it along the way were deemed untouchable, there would be a huge mass of every kind of consumer good just taking up space, bigger than all the landfills in the world. If you think about it hard enough, you might not actually be able to buy much of anything with good conscience.
At some point, especially in the liquidation business, the stuff is no longer tied to its maker. It’s just stuff. Unless Meh sells possessed dolls that will kill my family in our sleep. Those didn’t sell well, but they are a little more than just stuff. I’m out on those.
@djslack I see your point, sort of, but still don’t agree with it. I just don’t buy that something wrong becomes right after the passage of time, or along the line somewhere. If you are knowingly involved with the process, whose to say at what point, even if you believe that there is such a point, that you are not an accomplice to that behavior? To me, its a matter of integrity. As long as this type of behavior is condoned, the more it will continue.
@werekong The difference to me is that the goods did nothing wrong. People did, and it may be because they did that the goods exist but the items are not good or bad, they just are.
It’s cool if we disagree. We’ve seen each other’s points, discussed amicably, and we’re good. We’re doing better than 99% of the Internet right now
@InFrom “A person who aids, abets, or encourages another to commit a crime but who is not present at the scene.” I admit that my use of accomplice after the fact was possibly a loose interpretation, but I think most understood my intent.
@werekong I think it’s more than a loose interpretation, it’s stretching that definition of “accomplice” beyond recognition. The suggestion that people purchasing here in any way are accomplices, (in the dictionary sense, or a legal sense) who are aiding, abetting, or encouraging the person who colossally fouled up that Kickstarter, doesn’t hold up to scrutiny.
In the case of (known or suspected) stolen property, buying that property most definitely is aiding and abetting the thieves. You’re part of the market that makes the thieving profitable.
So there might be a weak analogy here if it could be shown the original Gekko Kickstarter dude or those unsavory folks like him believed they could “kickstart” and run as a result of building a quick market for their goods and pocketing the investor money as well.
Looking at it this way, anyone creating a market for the goods might look a bit unsavory as well. Presuming those goods would not have been available if it the investors had not been taken.
… as the 4pm unlock approaches, I’ve convinced myself to skip this deal.
@djslack Except for the beginning part, when they called all of us who bought these “scumbags” and accused us of selling our integrity. Perhaps not the most amicable way to begin a conversation.
Except for the beginning part, when they called all of us who bought these “scumbags” and accused us of selling our integrity. Perhaps not the most amicable way to begin a conversation.
@RedOak I confess I haven’t re-read this whole thread, but do we know for sure how this merch went from the Kickstarter guy into the waiting hands of Meh? It’s assumed he profited – is it possible he unloaded them at a loss?
@InFrom at least to my line of thinking, it might not matter whether the goods came directly from the thieves… or an intermediary “fence” or fences.
I’d guess these goods did not come directly from the Gekko dude. (Meh wouldn’t be that bold would they?)
Participating in the market for making those ill-gotten goods is the thing. It isn’t that the path of $ to the Gekko dude is direct or not. The demand for those goods makes a repeat for them or others more feasible.
Put another way, in a perfect world, the scumbag wouldn’t pocket a penny more than what he scammed from the investors. The products would ideally be completely worthless to his bank account, regardless of how many hands they had to pass thru subsequently.
But I totally get that everyone has different expectations of “right and wrong”.
@InFrom That’s your prerogative. Just like it’s your prerogative to think that’s there is nothing wrong with buying tainted goods as these devices appear to be. The device initiator shafted his investors. He sold the devices to another party instead of giving them to the investors, as promised. If the 3rd party was privy to all of this, they are not blameless (at least in my eyes). The same would be true about any other parties that traveled along the same path. Finally, anyone that purchased the devices, again, with “the knowledge”, must be condoning or overlooking that type of behavior. If you’re ok with that, more power to you. However, it’s not ok to me. I view it as another rip in the fabric of our society…unfortunately, there’s not much more left to rip, but…go ahead, I guess that’s your prerogative, as well.
@werekong I sorta don’t want to beat a dead horse, but am interested in clarity on your argument about ‘tainted goods’:
Burglar breaks into my house, steals my stereo & TV. Gets money for them from a third party; say, a pawn shop (suspicious, perhaps, but no reason to suspect stolen goods). Police arrest the burglar during another crime. Police & pawnshop figure out the TV & stereo are likely stolen but are unable to trace them back to me.
What is to be done with the stuff? Throw away the ‘tainted goods’, or sell them (probably at auction) to recover some of their value and some consumer has a reduced-price product. This sale did not encourage the burglary or future thieves.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@compunaut meh described the story behind the stands, so it’s clear to me that they can be traced back to the original designer/maker. If they can go to the original backers, that would be the best destination. Personally, I wouldn’t consider buying goods with the history that they have. I do not subscribe to the “it’s ok as long as I don’t get caught” theory either. My integrity is essential to me. However, it seems that it has become unimportant, or measured differently than in the past, and…that’s a shame.
@compunaut How would they know the equipment was stolen if they didn’t know it came from you? If something is stolen and sold to a pawn shop then found to be stolen, pawn shop generally takes a loss when it’s returned.
@werekong Presumably this guy wasn’t making these in his basement- he probably contracted it out to a manufacturer. If he didn’t pay them it was their right to sell them to whoever they wanted. That sounds more likely than some crazy scheme to screw over backers.
@sammydog01 You are assuming a lot, and, if true, denigrating the whole crowdfunding process. In fact, it was stated that the guy sold the stands to a 3rd party instead of giving then to his backers. It was not a situation where the contractor was “stuck” with them.
@werekong So that’s all the information you have? Some backers didn’t get their stuff? If this project went bankrupt who exactly do you think was first in line to get cash or inventory- creditors or kickstarters? Kickstarter backers are owed jack shit if the business doesn’t pan out- that’s how it works.
And you accused me of assuming a lot? There are may ways for Meh to legally get hold of these phone stands and you have no way of knowing what happened. You have no idea how much money this guy owed or to whom. A bankruptcy court would give all these doodads to his creditors and they would be free to sell them or stick them up their butts if they pleased. And you feel it is necessary to call him, Meh employees, and Meh customers thieves?
@sammydog01 Just about everything you said is an assumption. Just as an example, you say “Some backers didn’t get their stuff?” Do you think that every backer that was stiffed complained on Amazon?
Then you say “You have no idea how much money this guy owed or to whom.” Do you?
Then you start talking about bankruptcy court without any evidence that the guy went bankrupt.
@sammydog01@werekong We all are entitled to our own opinions here, but I can’t help but to feel that without every detail of what really went on, it’s all speculation on what did or did not happen.
@narfcake Really? I thought we were being pretty civilized if not productive and you call Mommy and tell? OK, I’ll go sit in the corner.
/giphy sit in corner
@sammydog01 I agree, It is time to quit. I will end with:
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck, it most probably is…a duck.
It appears that the tablet stand will only hold tablets up to 7"? Also, anyone know if it’s FAA compliant? They won’t allow you to use it on a plane if not!
So far I’ve tried the suction one, and holds way better than I would have expected it to. If it keeps up it’s quality after a few months, I’ll be thrilled.
@lichme What is it stuck to? I’m wondering if it’ll hold on my dash, which has a pebbled texture. (I got it yesterday, but won’t be in my car till the weekend.) I’d rather have it on the dash than the windshield.
Also, were there supposed to be directions in the box for the suction mount, or does it just stick to whatever?
@InFrom I have it stuck to the windshield, I haven’t tried the dash. On another note, I have tested out the pad mount one as well, and it seems to topple over with the weight of the phone. I have to rest my laptop on the pad to keep it from falling.
@lichme I’ve been using one of these, since 2015 I guess, and it really grips the laminate surface of my desk. My phone occasionally topples off if I don’t place it right, but the stand itself is solid. Hoping that this new one does as well in the car. I’m guessing I will end up with a windshield mount, even though the box does picture a dashboard mount, among others.
@lichme I finally got around to trying it this afternoon, and I couldn’t get it to stick for love nor money. I cleaned off the surfaces with Windex first. It wouldn’t stick to either the windshield or the smooth section of the dash. Am I doing it wrong? I smushed the suction cup against the surface, and then pressed down the lever. Nothing, it fell right over. Is there a trick to it?
@lichme I tried it today at home, it stuck pretty well to the Corian-like material surrounding the bathrooom sink, which is nice I guess for hands-free reading in the loo. Not sure why it wouldn’t stick to glass yesterday.
Can science determine the point where a substance crosses over from microsuction to just sticky? Because I think this thing is just sticky. I’ll take it. It works even on my faux leather phone case.
@djslack Yes! Just tried it out. Compared to the one I linked to above, very, very sticky. Looks like goo as I pull the phone off the stand. The other one just peels away, no tug-of-war required.

@scorkla you have 60 minutes from order time to cancel over on your “my orders” page.
@scorkla they’re all from kickstarter backers complaining their shipping was too slow.
It’s bullshit amazon hasn’t removed them yet. Not relevant to the product at all.
@Nexar Perhaps not directly relevant to the product itself, but it is a reflection of the company behind the product.

Paused after 18 minutes on a Friday night? What the hell is wrong with you people? Are you all drunk purchasing?
@sammydog01 I did. I had some beer at a hockey game, was eating a burger and drinking a milkshake. Then these popped up, and I’ve been looking for something like this to make it easier to watch hockey while driving, and Netflix while working. In for 1 suction, and 1 pad.
@lichme You want to drink a milkshake, eat a burger, and watch a hockey game while driving? That’s true multitasking.
@sammydog01 I guess I should say, being in a car while it’s in motion, not myself driving. I don’t condone distracted driving.
@sammydog01 you left out the beer
OMG, the reviews…
I was tempted. Thanks for pausing this deal; I’ll forget all about it by morning.
@sligett That’s how they got me with the printer- in the morning after it unpaused.
@sammydog01 … and I’m contemplating that clip model as well since it seems like it might come in handy whilst camping.
Already have Kensington phone holders for cars that clip to vents or to suction cups. Happy with those.
@sligett @sammydog01 @RedOak Yay, I held off until they sold out.

(Plus I have aluminum phone and tablet stands.)
am i the only one who thought this was a sex toy on first glance?
@vampje meh doesn’t sell sex toys. They only sell innuendo.
@vampje Was it the nanosuction pad mount that made you think that?
@vampje Am I the only one who thought they were hideous on first glance?
@sligett well the flange on both ends was confusing
@RedOak I only think it’s cause they can’t find enough refurb stock to run the site or they just might!

@chandlermock Your trust? Did you not read the write up? They only told exactly what happened with the Kickstarter. How duplicitous! As others have said zero reviews from confirmed buyers… some very angry Kickstarter people that took a risk and got burned. All of which Meh was upfront about. Smh
Well, there are the actual Kickstarter reviews that say the nanosuction pads don’t work, either.
narcissistic-divergent-seal
Yeah, that sounds about right.
Wow, this Kickstarter project really miffed some backers! Meh, why not allow max of 3 of each style? I have a need to fill!
Taking a chance on this for an upcoming flight with a toddler to distract with iPad.

My order ID must have been a backer as it isn’t positive either…
/giphy spotty-nutritious-coat…
Willing to give it a shot. I have a nano suction phone stand that I got a couple of years ago, and it works great with the case I have on my current phone. With the last phone, not so much.
First prize is one of these! Second prize is two of these!
Are we sure these aren’t Chinese knock-offs? I’ve read stories about kickstarter project ideas that are stolen by manufacturers in China who get them on the market before the actual product.
@SSteve Good read. The most recent item I’ve seen a lot of knockoffs of before the KS item was distributed to backers is the fidget cube.
/image fidget cube
@narfcake that’s cool. I want.
@SSteve that is a good read.
Our daughter lives in Shenzhen and works in the tech industry, providing cultural and translation expertise to large companies.
This patent thing and product copying is a fascinating problem.
@RedOak Some more reading:
http://www.bikebiz.com/news/read/fake-china-where-copyright-means-copy-it-right/019433
@narfcake indeed.
@narfcake 'Just had an ad show up on a page for those Fidget Cubes. Forty bucks. Ouch. That pricing for what they are is copy-me-bait.
Especially when it would be so easy to sorta copy them whilst actually selling a product that is different. Low barriers to competition.
Did you test one of these things, Meh? Do they work or are the horrible reviews correct?
So on Wednesday, you docked the inkjet printer folks for using a lower case ‘i’; now you’re knocking these guys for an upper case “I”. Moral of the story is don’t use an “I/i” in your model numbers or risk humiliation by Meh.
@themutilator uppercase i. Lowercase L
I/l
@RiotDemon Exactly
@themutilator you said the opposite.
@werekong OK, OK, I’ll cancel my order. Happy?
@sammydog01 Actually, you should be happy with yourself.
@InFrom
You mean a Volkswagen?
We’re doing better than 99% of the Internet right now
@werekong I would add that if more people had your view of integrity, then we hopefully wouldn’t have all these tales of kickstarters gone ugly.
@werekong “you are an accomplice, after the fact” I’m not sure that’s really a thing.
@djslack A stolen car has done nothing wrong either. I agree that it’s refreshing to argue in a non-combative manner.
@InFrom
The “stolen car” thing is not an ideal analogy.
@InFrom
What’s a little scumbaggery among friends?
Don’t worry be happy.
@RedOak I confess I haven’t re-read this whole thread, but do we know for sure how this merch went from the Kickstarter guy into the waiting hands of Meh? It’s assumed he profited – is it possible he unloaded them at a loss?
Gotta run.
@werekong
Thanks for strongly expressing your opinion. I’m sure we all benefit.
@werekong Where exactly was that stated?
@sammydog01 Check the Amazon reviews
I don’t see one fact, only supposition.
@sammydog01 @werekong We all are entitled to our own opinions here, but I can’t help but to feel that without every detail of what really went on, it’s all speculation on what did or did not happen.
Time to drop this, ok?
cc: @thumperchick.
@werekong That’s my point, we don’t have any idea what happened. So calling everyone a thief is premature.
@sammydog01 Sit in one of these corners instead. It’s Tuesday.

Maybe this will keep my tablet from falling in the food.
It appears that the tablet stand will only hold tablets up to 7"? Also, anyone know if it’s FAA compliant? They won’t allow you to use it on a plane if not!
Did someone let the Kickstarter backers know that they could get purchase redemption here for only $8 more?
Meh, next can you get your hands on the Zano drone I never got? I’d pay you $8 for it…
I’d be furious.
@jrwofuga Would it make you… (wait for it)… Georgia Red in the face?
@djslack probably more puce. But maybe.
@jrwofuga Fair enough.
Did this sellout?
@davide Yes

So far I’ve tried the suction one, and holds way better than I would have expected it to. If it keeps up it’s quality after a few months, I’ll be thrilled.
@lichme I’m just going to take this review out of context. For um… reasons
@InFrom No trick, mine worked the first time. I didn’t even clean the surface.
The other one just peels away, no tug-of-war required.
i got the tablet clamp to clamp my 8" tablet to the counter for reading recipes. seems to work real gud.
